Why Your FOREARMS Suck!

crossfit!

The next time you feel the urge to explain why something sucks…
Explain yourself.

TSB!

Just Deadlift.

sniff sniff I smell a troll

You have been registered on this site for 3 days yet you know details of Mr Pushups who hasnt posted for 4 months and you know the standard comments about Prof X.

Either you have done a hell of a lot of reading in the last couple of days, or you are just a regular reader who got bored and wanted to post some shit that you knew would get a response.

I am betting on the latter.

Or he’s an old troll with a new name. I’m beginning to see a pattern here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the trolls on this site are one guy. Like you said, a lot of them seem to know a pretty good back-history of T-Nation, including the former trolls.

I was thinking the very same thing about you little man.

Finally! The sense and reason. Goodbye

I agree withthe higher weights part, but the higher reps thing is debatable.

I did higher reps for years for my forearms, as recommended by every BB rag or article I ever read. Then I did some fatigue testing on my muscle groups, only to find that my forerams fatigued more/faster than just about any other group.

Since that time, I’ve dropped the reps and reduced the frequency and they’ve grown.

My point is that you don’t have to join the legion of high-rep pussies for your pipes to grow.

i dunno, Prof X is about 270 and he still has little 140 lb guys arguing with him.

Prof X does not weigh 270. He is full of shit, just like you.

He does have a webcam though. Here’s a screen cap.

LMAO…Levering sledges = crossfit? Wow…just… wow.

Why would you need specific exercises to train your forearms? Most exercises require you to hold on to weights, so they already tax your forearms.

If anything, overtraining the forearms is probably the number 1 reason why they don’t grow.

I have small hands so I don’t have much of a grip. That’s just the card mother nature dealt me. My grip has improved a lot however after I gave in and started deadlifting using straps. My guess is I was overtraining the forearms and the use of straps gave them room to grow, or get stronger at least.

I was struggling to shrug with 25kg db’s, now I use 35kg db’s with ease. I know that’s not much. Must mean I’m a pussy.

agreed. plus some weighted towel pullups. I’ve always thought that the forearm roller was some kind of janky mickey mouse equipment. Its just plain easy compared to towel pullups and deads. Then again on the forearm roller you are limited by your shoulders as to what you can hold straight out in front of you.

well, that was insightful.

thats why you should place the forearm roller in a rack because once you use decent weights your delts will fatigue before your forearms

Holding onto weights is a static contraction of your grip. Your forearms do alot more then that. You wouldn’t train any other muscle in your body in a purely static fashion, why would you do it for your forearms? Unless of course your 100% happy with your forearm development…in which case fill yer boots.

The shrugs and DLs just provide work for the forearms in a static position. If you did isometrics for your whole body do you think you’d get big?

You need dynamic, full-range work for the forearms to get fully worked.

You have a point about the overtraining. I believe that is easier than many suspect for forearms.

For this reason, I recommend that any forearm-specific exercises be done at the end of your most grip-intensive workout (probably the one with DLs or shrugs). If you have a specific arm day, just do your upper arms and let the forearms rest (yes, I do realize there is always some forearms involement in biceps, but you can minimize this if you’re paying attention).

Cycling the work goes well for forearms too. Hit them intensively for a few weeks and then drop all specific forearm exercies for a couple of weeks and watch them grow.

Sometimes when i read stupid posts, I feel dirty, like after a taking a big shit and finding out you’re on the last square of toilet paper.

This is one of those times.

Holy shit, TheSofaKing and I agree on something — and posted within minutes of each other. I’d better sit down…

OMFG I am so inspired by the O.P , hes like the new T.C .
