Why Would You Want to Use Gear?

didn’t read lol

For all the guys that don’t like geared lifting: Do you use a belt, knee wraps, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, etc?

Do you feel this is not gear?

Not insinuating anything here, just asking a question.

Is it just a coincidence that most of the strong people on here never complain about gear, while weak/average lifters tend to complain the most? (I’d definitely put myself in the average/weak category but still).

Geared lifting is awesome as is raw lifting. There isn’t a single valid reason to get rid of one for the other.

Lmao, threads like these make my day

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

U MAD BRAH ???

I use gear. I use knee and wrist wraps because I got hurt at basic training and it makes me feel better when I use it. That is gear. I do get a carryover, not much of one but I notice how different I feel wrapped versus not wrapped. I also can’t wait to get my power pants from Inzer because recovering from a hip injury is hard. I personally hate bench shirts, but I see why you would use one. The whole arguement is hypocritical unless you lift in just a tshirt and shorts. No shoes, because that could help you.
I deadlift 375 raw. If you use a belt and a deaflift suit and get 380, guess what? YOU BEAT ME.

I would rather saw my testicles off than not use multi ply gear. The only reason I havent competed yet is because I can’t get any consistant help and I don’t want to be that asshole that kills himself at his first multi ply meet.

I have nothing to contribute that hasn’t already been said but you know that you’ve spelled “strength” incorrectly both in your user name and in your posts right?

And what does your vid have to do with raw vs geared powerlifting? Is the rule now that squats don’t count unless they are beltess and paused?

james[/quo

i spelled it how i like it man :D,my vid shows raw lifting no belt no wrist wraps sleeve knee wraps oh and no drugs :),just showing what raw really is to me

not really, but it was the right time to post it :D,thats raw lifting no gear,no drugs no bullshit :),and i respect bth raw and equipped lifting…

Not to be a dick, but no one cares about your definition of raw or your slightly above average/average strength level.

Things are constantly changing and athletes want to do more, be faster, jump higher…you get the point. The gear in powerlifting is the same as the new high-tech materials used in cycling or improvements in engines in F1. It’s about power, not a RAW power. It is all designed to push the envelope. And it’s the same with the gear. It does allow you to handle bigger weights. It also allows you to get crushed by bigger weights. But it never lifts the weight for you. The gear is your high-tech material, which itself is useless, if the rider is going to collapse from exhaustion on the first day of Tour De France. You want raw? Than forget anything at the gym - there is no equivalent of olympic bar anywhere in the nature. It has it’s specific design, thickness, roughness, marks etc, so that you can actually lift more. It is, in essence, a gear, against which the lifts are compared. But guess what - it is not going to lift itself. The bottom line is, it is a sport. And either you compete in it or you don’t. And if you do, than you use the same advantages as other lifters. If you don’t, than you should not compare yourself with them. After all, many strongmen and powerlifters could probably not compete in armwrestling, even though it too is often considered a showcase of power. But it’s a different power. So pick your sport, train hard, and shut up about other sports.

Sooooo, getting back on track: Why Would You Want to Use Gear?

Coz it’s easier to lift 300kg with a rubber band helping you.

Coz if you can lift 300kg without a rubber band helping you, you can lift 400kg with a rubber band helping you.

Coz if you lift raw and you say, “I just squatted 300kg” and then Jonnie Shortarse says, “I just squatted 400kg”, you feel like a real Nancy Boy, even though Jonnie forgot to mention that he had a rubber band helping him.

Coz if you are a real fat arse, wrapping all that in a rubber suit will help you squat more. So you can eat shit and call yourself an athlete.

Is one “better” than the other? Who cares, they are two different sports.

As someone who as actually squatting 300+ raw I can honestly say that squatting 300+ in gear is much, much harder.

cheater cheater pumpkin eater

This seems like a stupid thread. They’re different events. If this bothers some of you so much, why don’t you go attack sprinters for having separate 100m, 200m, and 400m events or swimmers for having 9000 different events? Seems like a much more legit difstinction here than the one between 100m and 200m sprints.

I am fairly accomplished at both raw and equipped benching so I’d like to share my opinion. You never usually hear equipped guys complaining about raw lifting (not that it never happens). It’s mostly raw guys complaining about equipped lifting. To me, it’s just stupid. If I didn’t think it would make me look like a jerk, I’d say those people are s$$holes.

100m sprinters are cheating because they don’t have to run as far as 400m sprinters.

400m sprinters are cheating because they don’t have to be as fast as 100m sprinters.

Sprinting = Cheating.
