Didn’t he gas out in his last fight? He is a good example of someone that may have taken his physique too far for his sport.

It can also take away from other enjoyable activities, hiking, hunting, kayaking etc.
In July I was 235 lbs. - way overfat. I went caving in Puerto Rico. I was so agile (even while carrying excess bodyfat) that I became a de facto guide - ensuring that the much smaller people made it through the caves. I was also the first one - by several minutes - to make it to the top of a very high mountain.
Bodyweight is a very poor proxy for whether someone can hunt, kayak, etc.
My old gym had a few pretty serious bodybuilders. They actually competed on stage, had impressive physiques, good size and strength.
Two of them that told me that cannot hunt or hike like they used to when they were smaller.
The kayak comment is based on the fact that kayaks are pretty small and most are not rated for people in the 225 to 250 pound range.
I went to watch my old rugby team today. One of the guys has put on 40 quality pounds over the last few years. He is now having problems with the arch of his foot. He (and his doctor) thinks the added mass has caused or made the conditon worse.
As I said before I have repsect for the guys that want to look like serious bodybuilders but I do not desire the same look.

jeff monsons career ended after having his shit rocked by much less muscular guys time after time.
5’11" 190 leanish (blurry six pack))
I’m 16 so I’m just starting up. My end goal is somewhere between 210-230 and I’d like to stay at around 6% bf. That would be my ideal. Right now I’m just trying to get my right arm big again and break 200. Then I want to get freaky lean and then try to add some size.
I can’t believe stan mcquay competes at 180. I don’t know his height but that kinda makes me want to cut to comp level of leanness. I just don’t see how I could work my ass off for a few months, get shredded, and end up a slightly smaller version of stan.

You just gave me visions of Metallica’s “Some Kind of Monster” documentary.

look up his record. the quick, smaller guys were better built to whip his ass.
check out requirements for military special forces too. there is a reason they only take a certain size.
“hyooge” muscles have their place and those places are in the gym or on a stage

And on people that have the frames to handle them.

Yeah, just ask 6’ 290 lbs Mariusz Pudzianowski, there’s no way he’d be able to ‘function’ outside the gym.
[/sarcasm]
i’m sure he’d be able to lift heavy things and flex a lot. but his strength wouldn’t necessarily do him any good in an octagon, on a basketball court, a football field etc. muscles are definately trained certain ways to perform certain functions.
i’m not saying strength isn’t a functional attribute at all, i’m just saying that it is a small part over the over all “functional body” equation.

If you knew anything about submission grappling (which is what I noted), you would really how ignorant you just make yourself look.

This is not true.
LOL. Texasguy has revealed that he doesn’t know what submission grappling is, and that he doesn’t know anything about the requirements for the special forces. Yet he has opined on both subjects.
Something tells me someone is looking for a reason to denigrate people larger than he is. I wonder what would motivate such a person?
Dude, you made the absurd stance that large muscles are worthless beyond the gym or on a BB stage. I gave an example where you’re wrong. I could give many, many more.

Nice back peddling. You know you claimed something stupid and now you want to redefine “large muscles are worthless beyond the gym or on a BB stage”.
to slay the invisible dragon that breathes fire, within. to redefine rebirth, from our previous ashes, and rise a phoenix: stronger, brighter, more powerful…
to calm the tempest that roils underneath these pecs, ever hungry for more, ever the untamed, and yet, as the cold iron warms in our bleeding palms, to find the meaning of life as we know it… through blood and tears.
