Low confidence, shy of conflict. Feel inadequte even though I do better in life than most everyone I know. It’s the same reason I learned the guitar, learn new languages etc. I’ll probably still not feel I’m up to snuff even if I end up standing big and ripped on a BB stage, make captain on my ship, and speak 4 languages fluently.
… but I have the guitar for swooning teh bitchez. Teh bitchez is what it’s all about.
When I was young to be the strongest guy in the world. Now 20 years later, it is to be the strongest guy on my block. I lift alone, only I can lift the weight. Something in life that no one can help me do and only I can depend on myself.

LOL, do you really want to know why you lift weights? That is, the truth?
Now, I doubt you want the truth… so pick the most “hardcore” reply that you feel describes your motives and roll with it. You ain’t gonna be around on 2nd February 2080 anyway, so why worry? [/quote]
by training my body i know my mind will step in line and keep focus.
if my body isn’t 100% how the hell could my brain be?
to increase my endurance strength for martial arts. the last thing i want to be is on the receiving end of an ass whooping because i was too lazy to lift weights.
to avoid lazy ass induced illnesses like self inflicted diabetes and high blood pressure.
to make sure i die a peaceful death.
to be a great example for my kids when they grow up so they can know that fitness builds character
to also help my children by showing them " you don’t need to be a rich teen but if you are fit with a good personality then people will love you.
because a stack of 10 patio blocks aren’t going to be broken by a guy who can’t see his own toes. ( karate training)
because knockout punches can be learned through good technique but breaking bones is something that can be achieved with real strength.
i’ll just stop there because i could go all day…actually no i won’t.
because hot chicks like hot dudes. plain and simple. do you really expect someone that takes care of their body to be into you if you don’t do the same? not likely unless you are shelling out money and that’s called prostitution. rofl. effin losers.
because going to a job interview looking like shyt will 100% of the time guarantee that people will assume you are lazy and dirty and that you don’t care about yourself.
i was deadlifting one day, and one of the old men at my gym asked me, “is there any reason you’re lifting such heavy weights?” and i replied, “yes. for… fun”

You shouldve tossed one of those old guys right over your shoulder onto the ground…“See, thats why”.
because no matter how F***ed my life gets there is always a constant… today the weights will try to crush me, and today I will tell them to go on a bulk and try again tomorrow…
The one universal answer has been mentioned several times. Me time. All of the other answers are great and individualistic and here are mine:
-Because my whole youth I was a skinny dork that couldn’t gain a lb of muscle if you stapled it to me. Not the case anymore
-Health reasons
-Confidence
-Because I HAVE to beat the log book.
MOST IMPORTANT REASONS:
-Have a 14 year old son that is going to be a big boy. I’ll be damned if he is going to lift more than me!
-Have 2 daughters (12,13). 'nough said!

Interestingly enough, it was actually American Psycho that got me into lifting.
One of the more important reasons why I lift is to get out of my head while going full out and for a moment forget about the things I see and hear during my job. It balances things out.

oh i feel like it sometimes.
one old guy came up to me and told me to put my weights down, because if i lift those i’ll get big bulky muscle. ohhhhhhh nooooooo serious???
I lift weights to help lose weight, its hard losing weight when your a 5 “7” 140 lb 14 year old who is still in his non-puberty years compared to a 6 “2” 200 lb man with a faster metabolism.
