Why T-Cell Fails...

Yep.

I want my own t-cell. It’ll be full of douche bags just like me. Mods: Can I have dibs on the douche bag T Cell?

But why couldn’t troll threads simply be moved from BBing to GAL? That’s the type of moderation that was needed, not the deletion of slightly controversial posts arguing with Biotest authors etc… That was the kind of moderation we were getting that was pissing so many people off.

No, you are now what is pissing people off because you refuse to listen.

Someone who jumps into a thread to degrade bodybuilding while talking about combat pyramids isn’t exactly a troll. If they move his post, they have to do the same to the HUNDREDS jumping into threads complaining that they don’t want to get too big even though they weigh all of 140lbs.

They will also have to do the same to the guys telling us that rock climbing is better than bodybuilding or big muscles and the ones claiming they can’t find clothes that fit their ENORMOUS 21" quads.

The dilemma is that they apparently WANT these doofuses here because they equal MO MONEY, MO MONEY, MO MONEY!

Therefore, you are asking for extreme censorship when that is exactly what we were complaining ABOUT and why the T-Cell now exists.

If that doesn’t sink in this time, please hit yourself over the head with various metal objects until it does.

Thank you.

I think that’s already spoken for.

Cortes, forgive me for ending a sentence with a preposition.

This thread fails.

Before the T-Cell, searching through the bodybuilding forum to find useful interesting posts (about BODYBUILDING) was an exercise in futility. I would have been more successful had I tried to find oil by jackhammering a hole in the ground with my penis.

The Cell serves a purpose. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. End of discussion.

The way I see it the new forum is now what the Bodybuilding forum should have been all along. I used to wonder what the hell some of these guys were doing here, but didn’t feel it was my place to tell them to leave because there was nowhere else for them to go and who was I to tell somebody to leave T-Nation altogether.

Now we can send the “I don’t wanna be huge” guys to the bodybuilding forum. That’s a little weird, but at least now we don’t have to trip over posts about how icky big muscles are and how dangerous food is.

From the other standpoint there will be less weenie bashing and people will be free to stroke each other’s functionality because the guys who don’t consider that bodybuilding will be in the new forum. If somebody actually into bodybuilding shows up in the bodybuilding forum we can bring them into the the new forum.

It’s about attitude. I think the fact of a like minded 14 year old being invited actually shows that it is being viewed in a productive non elitist manner.

Guys are complaining out of one side of their mouth that it’s snobbish and elitist and out of the other that non elite people are being allowed.

It’s kinda nice to click on a section of the forum where you won’t see idiotic posts asking “Is My Split OK?” when it’s pretty obvious that 20 exercises with 5 sets is too much and that you can’t bench 4 times a week.

It’s kinda nice to go to a section of the forum where everyone has had at least six months of experience and isn’t a die hard Chad Waterbury TBT cult member or a die hard Dan John or Joe Defranco or Charles Poliquin “This is the only way to train even though the authors acknowledge that other stuff works” maniacs.

I think if more posts were made in the beginning thread and if everyone had to pass a quiz indicating that they understood Vroom’s “Are you a Beginner?” thread before they logged on to the forum, then we’d have a really healthy forum about getting jacked.

Agreed.

To avoid any confusion or appearance that some forums are redundant I would rename:

-The current “Bodybuilding” forum to “General Fitness”

-And possibly “T-Cell Alpha” to “T-Cell Bodybuilding”; or something equally as descriptive.

The “Beginners” forum could then be removed since the “General Fitness” forum would encompass, in all likely events, similar discussions.

Once a new posters’ interest in a specific area (ie: bodybuilding or subjects relating to future T-Cells) grows and is made apparent by their posts; they could then be invited to those respective sub-forums.

Other options include:

  • Starting everyones’ account with full access to all forums and let “natural selection” weed them out if they really go against the spirit of the forum they are posting on. (This option may be favored if “Power Cliques” are something that concerns T-Nation brass. Logs could also keep track of certain members always trying to remove other’s membership)

The downside of this method is that some trolls may create multiple accounts to regain sub-forum posting privileges.

On the other hand I don’t believe cliques to be a problem on this site because, for the most part, most want to see the community grow - just that we want people to show some kind of respect for what they are about to embark on; and for them to set the bar for themselves as high as they could. Therefore the current method of acquiring access to T-Cells by invitation works just as well, IMO.

Bodybuilding should still be bodybuilding forum. As far as I know, Fulmen has yet to be invited to the T-cell, and he’s the poster child for all things bodubuilding.

Beginners should remain beginners because thats where people who are honestly clueless but have the willingness to better themselves but just don’t know how can ask dumb questions without being flamed to holy hell in the bodybuilding forum.

As near as I can tell, the MODS are doing a great job of moving threads from the bodybuilding section to the beginner’s section when it becomes obvious thats where they belong.

I would love it if they gave us a general topic to discuss inside the T-cell. I know it was supposed to be a T-cell bodybuilding, but they let me, Hanley, 4est, Xen, DJWlfpack, and a few other guys who aren’t all that focused on bodybuilding in.

Hell, everyone else was INVITED. Which means that while individuals pay lip service to the idea that bodybuilding is the topic, they’ll get a ton of different views on it. This may be what ProfX, Rainjack, and the other bodybuilders want. I dunno.

I’ve said it before, but it feels like the land of ‘do as you will’, and they’re just trusting to the general level of experience and the fact that we can vote each other off the island to prevent huge muckups and flame wars.

Thus far, it seems to be working.

If you’re pissed that’s on you. Your claim that I am asking for MORE censorship is idiotic in the extreme. What would work are more forums for pyramid rock climbing bodybuilding haters (like Tribulus’s idea for a general forum), in that way you keep the people out that YOU want out. It’s so easy to understand.

So far the most interesting (entertaining) part about the T-Cell are all the threads whining/crying about it and the thread on T-Cell Alpha discussing who should get in. It all seems a bit absurd to me to this point. Hopefully it’ll all settle down and something worth reading will be posted there.

This thought crossed my mind from day one, but why push it for now… maybe.

The whole natural selection thing is intriguing. I haven’t had time to think it through so as to be certain how I view that.

I invited Fulmen, who now has a different screen name.

As for the above, I could be wrong, but I honestly think they don’t really care about huge muckups and flame wars as much as just getting the whole thing out of their hair. Not that that would be bad and that also wouldn’t mean they aren’t trying to improve the forums for us.

I just don’t think any tears are shed if people beat up on one another unless it has a business impact. Again, not that that would be bad. Just a feeling and one word from somebody in the know would stand me corrected on that.

I don’t think that it fails. I think it is a brilliant idea. I believe that in time it will deliver. I have found the few topics interesting and no doubt there will be many more to come.

Give it time.

SH:

Excellent post! (VERY distracting avatar! LOL!)

After being here for a while, there is only one thing I have to disagree with you on:

“…for the most part, most want to see the community grow…”

There are people, on various other sites and Forums, whose lives seem to center around destroying this site, ridiculing the authors, and doing everything they can to discredit anything and everything that TC and Tim try to build.

That’s a VERY sad reality.

GREAT post, though!

I think the HUGE thing is that Alpha is unmoderated. I was never really aware of some things happening on this site until Prof X’s thread.[/quote]

It is not unmoderated. The moderation is done at a different level – by not allowing 99% of T-Nation members to post in the first place. A few members can say anything they want, but most cannot say anything at all.

I am not saying this is a bad thing. All good forums implement moderation somehow.

Don’t all you T-Cell members have your own forum to post in now…?

So people want the T-Cell people in the regular forums, so they start a thread crying about it and then attack all the T-Cell members for being elitist.

Man this shit is confusing to me.
