What a bunch of negative people in this forum.

I’d like to point out that this is the most negative post in the thread. With the exception of the original post, everyone in this thread either posted something humorous or informative, you took the time to tell us that we are so far beneath you that you didn’t bother reading any of it, and then whined about how negative everyone else was.

Damn right! I keep the popcorn ready when I read this thread.
Why would I squat ATG when the sport only requires me to squat parallel for white lights. Makes no sense man.

This is all i will add.

like you know what parallel is!
I like squatting ass to guy.
The rulebook says crease of hip below top of the knee… there’s no 4th white for extra depth so why the fuck would you squat deeper than that? shut up, Squat to what the book says, and for god sake lets all get off the G.D. computer and go lift something. Sound good?

I wrote a response for the first part, but i know damn well it would just turn into a fed war and get me flamed, so im gonna bite my tongue on that. as for the second, that is true, and It sucks to lose a good squat on a borderline depth call, but i think it would be fairly safe to say that in a vast majority of cases, a squat to textbook depth should be more than fine. Besides, nothing i say on here should be taken overly seriously anyways ![]()
Its powerlifting, outside of those of us who compete, really… who gives a fuck?

haha, this is awesome. 99% of people that squat “atg” don’t even get to parallel. ATG is one of those internet warrior terms guys use to justify why they squat 1/4 of what guys in meets do.
Yeah I can only think of two people I’ve seen go below parallel. They were bodybuilders using a narrow stance and not much weight.
Why would this topic be in a powerlifting forum where parallel is the lowest you’d need to go?
I’m not sure what federation you lift in, but the IPF requires that the squat go below parallel.

This may be true in the real world but we all know that on the internet all squats are judged solely based on this magical 4th light. This light is of course given out by the illustrious panel of internet judges precisely never, the exceptions being if 1) the squat is performed by an olympic lifter, which is silly since none of them do squats in competition and thus judging depth has no value or 2) occasionally if the squat is performed in the ipf, note that this is a rare occurance and cause for celebration as one’s official squat never really counts unless it has been given the magic 4th light!

1.) when you stop at parallel, you are cutting off an exercise mid motion
2.) why are wall sits tough? because you are stuck in a parallel position
3.) when you stand up from a sticking point, it is easier to stand up with momentum
4.) ppl do more weight parallel than atg. heavier weight more often will lead to injuries. this is a result of form, from not going low enough
5.) atg allows hamstring and hip loading as opposed to knee loading.
6.) published report showing empirical data that displays safety of atg squats
7.) you obviously can’t do as much weight
8.) the majority of ppl who say i squat “x” weight do it between 1/4-1/2 squat
9.) do oly lifters ever have knee problems? no they just have problems when their arm snaps behind their head during snatches.
10.) when you take a shit in the field, you squat ass to grass. it is a natural movement.
11.) babies develop in the womb in fetal position. how often do they come out with knee injuries?
12.) http://www.youtube.com/user/lmercierdurso#p/a/u/1/YmAZiuWHqJc videos like this, where ppl put on way too much weight, put on a belt to look tough, then bend their knees.
13.) because i said so.

This thread sucks, but I’m going to break it down for you.
