I agree with Zeb, Bolt and a few others on this thread…while there are some demographic issues that the GOP should at the very least be discussing as a Party…these trends tend to be cyclic.

That’s why I never let one election get me down. In two years we have the mid-terms. And if I know obama he’ll alienate a large group of people with his left wing nonsense. And he’ll end up being a lame duck with a majority of republicans in the house and senate. So live it up for two years Bamaster.
And a final thought, for what he had to say and dp to get where he is I wouldn’t want to be him for all the money in the world.

When he does, expect this on the other forums:
“…GOP Blowjob Barn in PWI…”
“…circle jerk in PWI…”
“…cesspool of the site…”
“…too many conservative posters…”
Yap
Blab
Sniffle
Then one day…SHAZAM!..progressives will win another election (which they most certainly will) and back he’ll come to do another belly-buster in the pool, bob over to the shallow end, and stumble back up the steps looking for his towel and the exit gate.
LOL the real funny part is all the most vocal fuckwits on this sub-forum (including yourself) have somehow fancied themselves to be the “intellectual elite”. Maybe sitting around all day hearing guys agree with you makes you think you are smarter than you actually are, and thus that anybody that disagrees with you is obviously not. I think there are studies on that as a matter of fact, that whole “echo chamber phenomen”. Maybe you actually need that and that’s why you drive off the “progressive” posters that dare enter your little circle jerk? I dunno, but its quite comical.
It’s especially ironic as I look through these threads leading up to the election when you guys were so fucking confident that your guy was gonna take it home (possibly even in a landslide LOL). That’s because you and your ilk live in a fucking bubble, where your own ideas are repeated back to you and no amount of outside knowledge will penetrate it. That’s fine, keep going into these elections and coming out of them scratching your ass thinking “whaaa happeneddddd???” Then you’ll go back to those very same sources to discuss the results and get your “answers” LOL
Rinse wash repeat.

Although I suppose that for the birther party, I also am expected to show my long entry form and a cashed check for my membership dues hahahahahaa.
Why you may even get Donald Trump on the case with daily phone calls to Fox News with the status of his investigation? How about sending a team of investigators to Mensa HQ to investigate? LOLOL
How about my passport records and college transcripts?

I mean, the Democrats controlled congress for a long time after the 60’s…
It seems to me, and maybe I’m wrong, the GOP was “dead in the water” until Reagan came along, and he was a former liberal. In fact, I have been lead to believe Breitbart was a former liberal as well…
But seeing as things like the tea party have had more of an actual impact than things like occupy, I don’t see another 4-6 decade of Democratic domination, unless the GOP jams its head up its collective ass that is.

Yeah, he’ll figure something out. Like Scott Brown said, losing an election isn’t the end of the battle, or some such.
Best two mins every. Sucks he lost and Florida went blue though, lol.
thunderbolt23 wrote:
Independents left Obama and voted for Romney. The GOP already got a majority of their votes - if the GOP can convert the into proud members, or reliable GOP votes, then the turnout is improved.
And that is a big if. I believe that among the independents the anti-Obama sentiment was far stronger than the pro-Romney sentiment.
thunderbolt23 wrote:
Imagine what happens if, for example, the GOP starts taking a skepticism of free trade agreements of the kind that private unions don’t support under a “pro-America” banner (which is an easy theme for the GOP) and starts making inroads into traditional, socially conservative trade union-type voters. The Reagan Democrats are still out there - that would be a hell of a dent in the Democratic coalition, even if the GOP gets some, not all, of them.
We can hope! America is very socially conservative and that is unlikely to change given forecasted demographic shifts.
It is the “laissez faire” economic policy of the Republican party that independents, and much of the left, have a problem with.
The people of America want to reduce the size of government, and want to do away with many burdensome regulations. They just do not trust the Republican party to do it.
And I for one cannot blame them. I do not trust the Republican party to do the right thing by the people. Many of our elected officials truly seem to think that if they do what is best for big business they are doing right by the country.
I said earlier I think what it means to be Republican is so broad that it hurts the party when one who self identifies Republican and says inappropriate things can be able to label the whole party under that banner of what the inappropriate person said.
The spectrum ranges from Ron Paul Libertarianism and less hawkish foreign policy to the Tea Party fiscal and social conservatism to Compassionate Conservatives social but not fiscal (Pro Keynes) to Reagen Republicans to Centrist Republicans Bush 1/Eisenhower (fiscal conservatives less focus on social issues) to Rockefeller Republicans to Neo-conservatives.
Whereas Democrats you have Bill Clinton (Third Way Democrats, Reagen Democrats, New Democrat Coalitions Democrats) to Elizabeth Warren. This is much less distance to travel.
If the Republican Party can unite itself around a core set of principles and adhere to those principles then the Democrats should be worried. The Republican party appears fragmented and it is because there is too many ideologies in the party and what it means to be a member. Too many ideologies leads to too many opinions on which way the Party should go.
phaethon wrote:

The major problem is the Democrats are no better at this than the republicans… But for whatever reason people seem to think they are. They aren’t. Big money interests own Washington, mainly because our elected officials are all money hungry, power hungry ego maniacs who openly lie, cheat and steal…
Romney wouldn’t have been much different in this regard, but he would have been a step in the right direction, and we would have a shot of getting rid of the abomination AHA.
I’ve spent a few days thinking about it and I’ve arrived at the following conclusion (sorry if I repeat someone’s idea, the thread is too long to read at this point): it’s just not “cool” to be conservative.
Think about it. Obama hit’s the late night circuit where all the Hollywood types go, he goes on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart (where MOST under 30 somethings get their news from), he gets HUGE celebrity endorsements (Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, George Cloony, Scarlet Johansson, Adrian Grenier to name a few - effectively hitting the music, tv and movie celebrities right there).
He’s identified with a “tribe” that MOST younger (and some not so younger) people subscribe to and want to identify with - it’s marketing fucking 101. Who did the GOP put up? Clint Eastwood? He talked to a fucking CHAIR for 20 minutes… Don’t get me wrong - I LUV me some Clint, but the guy is like 100 years old now and in his last movie he’s telling members of the younger generation to “get off my lawn!” Not exactly who younger folks identify with these days.
In today’s MEDIA saturated environment (and let’s face it, every media source other than FOX loves Obama and the Democrats and only shows them in a positive light), where celebrities are put up on pedestals and worshiped, where reality TV has turned zeros to heroes, where the American population is told HOW to THINK and is brainwashed with liberal stupidity on a daily basis, Obama could take a shit on the White House lawn and the MEDIA would do a story on how “progressive” he is and how that’s the cool thing to do now and how EVERYONE should be shitting on their lawns cuz it’s good for the environment. It’s getting pretty downright ridiculous how biased the MEDIA is.
So now that the MEDIA is controlling the message, EVERY TIME there is way to twist a Republican policy or party member mis-step, it’s broadcast all over the airwaves for weeks and the offender is crucified and eaten alive by a pack of savage MEDIA dogs with no respite UNTIL the NEXT Republican/Social Conservative steps on his proverbial dick.
And while I’m on the subject of stepping on dicks, what idiot talks about rape and god’s will in the same sentence? Seriously?! Who ARE these morons? I mean with all the MONEY the GOP is throwing at winning elections, I think they should take a few dollars and invest it in mandatory CHARM SCHOOL for all GOP candidates. Or at LEAST an 8 hour seminar on “the top ten things NEVER to say when the camera is rolling”. I mean weren’t their like TWO fucking SENATORS who were talking about “legitimate rape” and “rape is god’s will”? I don’t know WHAT they said, but the MEDIA sure got ahold of it and now we lost TWO SENATE SEATS because of that foolishness! Mandatory charm school for all GOP candidates. MOST people know that when a man talks about rape, it USUALLY doesn’t turn out being a comfortable conversation - why a POLITICIAN doesn’t know that is beyond me… Anyway, I digress.
The following few issues are what alienates the GOP platform from the MAJORITY of Americans:
-Immigration. Seriously, will ALL the Spanish speaking folks in New Mexico, Cali and Florida, you MIGHT think that completely ALIENATING them would be a bad idea. They are the LARGEST GROWING DEMOGRAPHIC and they identify with NINETY NINE PERCENT of what the Republican Party stands for. Their values are OUR values! Everything except for that part about how it’s cool for cops to just pull their people over and ask them to PROVE their legal status like it’s 1930’s Germany. Except for that part where the presidential candidate says on TV that they should “just leave”. Except for the part about how Republicans want it to be illegal for them to go to a hospital. Those things they have a problem with… Just sayin’…
-The WAR on DRUGS. Get over it. People want to smoke their weed. If at the next meeting of the republican minds, they got their collective heads out of their collective asses when it comes to marijuana, we could WIN the next election hands down. That would be a good strategy if we BEAT the Democrats to it. We are the party of personal freedom and less gov’t regulation. Why wouldn’t we want to legalize what over FORTY PERCENT of the country is doing ANYWAY. I won’t go into this anymore, there have been THREADS about this. But TWO STATES have decriminalized it, and more states won’t be far behind. Let’s get ahead of the curve on this one.
-The WAR on GAYS. Speaking of something that two states legalized by popular consensus. The GOP needs to get out of the bedroom. If you can’t bring yourself to legalize gay marriage then just STOP regulating marriage all together. Same sex couples in long term committed relationships ARE being disenfranchised. Get over it. Fags are here to stay. Don’t ask, don’t tell has gone away. Only religious nutjobs have an opinion on how two adults find their happiness. MANY of them are wealthy and but for that whole taking it up the ass thing, would fit right in to conservative ideology. It would be great to have their vote.
-The WAR on WOMEN. I know, I know. The most hotly contested topic: ABORTION. Everyone get’s their panties in a bunch over this one. Roe v Wade has been around as long as I’ve been alive. Almost 40 years (almost as long as the failed war on drugs). Does anyone REALLY think they are going to just “STOP” doing abortions? While I may find it distasteful, and many of us here think it’s a “sin”, that battle has been lost. Fucking CONCEDE it already! The only thing we accomplish by continuing to talk about it is alienating women. Let it become the RELIGIOUS ISSUE that it IS and let the CHURCHES lead that march. Not Republicans.
which brings me to…
-The WAR on EVERYONE NOT A CHRISTIAN. Guess what? Crazy Christians are how MOST Democrats view Republicans. Why? Because SO MANY CRAZY WING NUT CHRISTIANS ARE ELECTED! Seriously. The party needs to distance itself from all that religious stuff. I’m just going to stop there, lest I offend people.
HALF of the the four “wars” up there are driven by religion. A MAJORITY of the country does NOT agree with it!!! So DROP IT. Focus on the fiscal issues. Focus on smaller government. Focus on Tax Reform. Focus on restructuring the entitlements so that they might actually help those in need. Focus on building American and BUYING American (you’ll win the Union vote). Focus on promoting a CLEAN energy policy that includes drilling for oil and natural gas AND explores alternative energy.
That’s MY opinion on what the GOP needs to do to get back in touch with the America of TODAY. ALL these issues like abortion, gays, drugs and immigration are like the demons of Pandora’s Box - THEY AIN’T GOING BACK IN THE BOX! They are here to stay. Pretending it’s the 1950’s and thinking that society will regress and shrink it’s thinking about issues that over half of the population has already accepted is foolish. It’s a losing battle. And if we fail to adapt our party will go the way of the dodo bird (even you creationists can acknowledge that the dodo bird failed to adapt and subsequently became extinct, right?).

I agree with what you are saying but, would this not just be a Libertarian? Fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

Yep I agree with all that too and nobody here would call me a republican or conservative. The TLDR version is they would do better if they became more like democrats on both issues and friends with famous people. It seems like the easier party to change would be the democrats by cutting spending. They don’t even have to change any of their ideals, simply say we’d love to give everyone free stuff but we just don’t have the money right now.
