Why Isn't American Football Watched Worldwide?

Football is literally non-stop excitement and BIG HITS getting JACKED UP! by BIG 300lb supermen who get pounded hard.

Soccer is a bunch of effeminate white guys kicking a ball around and nothing ever happens.
tjr-dk wrote:
How do you keep track of the ‘10 yards in 4 downs’ in a back yard game?
You don’t. There are a lot of variations, but basically you find an open area, you set two endzones, and you have 4 downs to get in. You usually don’t bother with first downs.

A big factor why :

American Football hurts. Rugby hurts. Soccer does not. Imagine this. The reason why so many kids join soccer is because either their parents make 'em, or because they like the game.

With soccer you can run around a bit, pass the ball a bit, talk to your friends a little and so forth. Do you see a shit-ton of 10 year olds suit up to go hit each other as hard as they can? Of course not, because that hurts like a motherfucker to a 10 year old. So they practice soccer, watch soccer etc. The adults don’t watch American Football because they’re not brought up with it.

The OP is simply an overly patriotic asshole with an internet connection, and we all know what that obviously leads to.

I’m fairly sure 90% of NFL players would dominate rugby within 2 weeks of training. Rugby is a smaller version of football, the average rugby player is weak and puny compared to the 300lb monsters we have in the NFL.

Good day, sir.
Don’t get me wrong, I respect rugby players, but is this really your poster boy? That link says he benches 495 pounds, and squats 600. He is a beast, and if that were your average then that is great, but the NFL has plenty of people who can do that.

While football may be based on rugby, and resembled it quite a bit in it’s early stages(late 1800s) they’re now incredibly different games, and just shouldn’t be compared at all. It always ends in some argument of cultural bias where one person likes one sport because they grew up with it, and points out why they think theirs is superior, and then the other retorts in the same manner. Same thing with football vs soccer(I know, it’s “football” but it’s easier this way).

As for that picture of a rugby player, he is no doubt impressive, but that’s a great example of what I’m talking about. How exactly do we accept your challenge of finding someone bigger and stronger when all you did was post a menacing picture that apparently proves your point about how the sport is better because this man is in this picture?

I think we can all agree that rugby/football/hockey(your hard hitting sport of choice) are all better than soccer =p JAYKAY DON’T VIOLENTLY ASSAULT ME FOR POKING FUN AT THE MOST FANATICAL SPORT IN THE WORLD.

LOL! i agree completly that they should not be compared, as its like comparing the 100ms with a 5000m race.

However, i disagree with you saying that posting that picture does not prove my point. The OP said something like: american football players are bigger and make rugby player look feeble…! So think its pretty funny that a multiple worlds strongest man winner plays rugby, yet is labeled as ‘pathetic’.

Stop trying to be so moral. Your post really does make NO sense.

"How exactly do we accept your challenge of finding someone bigger and stronger when all you did was post a menacing picture "

you accept the challenge by saying “yes i accept” (must also be put in writing and signed by a gurantor) if you require further details then you need help…you complete the challenge by finding someone bigger/stronger who plays football. I am now hoping Derek Poundstone does not.

I think you’re going about trying to prove your sport’s worth in the entirely wrong way.

While I’ll certainly concede rugby’s aerobic superiority to American football, attempting to pit its athlete’s size and strength against that of NFL (or even college) players is a sure-fire way to lose an argument.

I can’t debate that the picture you posted didn’t hold a phenomenal example of power and athleticism - no one could. But does he stand as an average player in your sport? Are there athletes like that spread over every rugby field in the world, knocking each other’s teeth into the eyes of their teammates? My guess is no. In fact, I’d say the gentleman in the background of the picture is a more accurate representation of the average.

Now, contrast this to any professional football team in America. Even the abysmal Detroit Lions are filled to the brim with physical freaks, all of whom would be stand-outs, if not stars if their skills were appropriated to the game of rugby. Ernie Sims, Julian Peterson, Calvin Johnson - there’s simply no shot at matching those type of athletes on any rugby team worldwide. And bear in mind, this is the worst NFL team - a roster for the Dallas Cowboys or San Diego Chargers would read much differently.

I understand that you’re defensive of your sport, but play to its strengths. Me posting a picture of a more impressive physique (of which I could find in my own locker room) doesn’t prove anything about the sport overall.

As it stands, there aren’t too many rugby players internationally running sub-4.5 40 yard dashes at 230 pounds, but I can guarantee there is one on every NFL roster.

The biggest guys in the US often play American Football. So you are getting the biggest guys from a pool of 300,000,000.

The biggest guys in Scotland, England, Wales, France, Italy, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Hong Kong, Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tongo, Chile, Georgia, Uruguay often play Rugby.

So you are getting the biggest guys from a pool of about 340,000,000. Not only are you pulling from a slightly larger pool but you have to take into account that the average size of pacific islanders is fecking huge.

yes agree. But, from your own personal experience, if you wanted to bulk up massively, you would be doing little to no cardio? correct? rugby players have to do TONNES of cardio to be match fit. So they are never going to be as strong or muscular as nfl players, thats obvious.

OFF TOPIC- but i like how someone said they could find a more impressive physique in their own locker room than mariuz pudzianowski lol! i want to go to see what team he plays for! FREAKS

The average height in the NFL is 6’1 and the average weight is 242lb.

What is it for rugby?

I’d be willing to bet its 5’10 and 190lb.

For soccer, I’d bet its 5’8 and 150lb.

Americans are simply bigger and stronger, thats why we dominate all strenght competitions.

Does Pudzianowski even play pro rugby?

No i posted that picture for a joke but it got taken seriously, mainly by people not recognising him and saying he was average lol. Apparantly he plays for a semi-pro team sometimes.

Rugby and soccer don’t get good athletes because they are “bush league”, if there were good athletes in soccer or rugby they would upgrade to the NFL because NFL players make millions while soccer and rugby don’t. NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL are MAJOR leagues, soccer and rugby don’t have multimillionaires and big billion dollar worth teams and a huge talent pool of elite athletes.

The only time people watch soccer is during the World Cup and we all see how soccer players are 170lb weaklings who couldn’t bench press their own weight and rugby is only watched in Australia and New Zealand which have small populations and don’t produce as many elite athletes as America.
This has got to be a troll job. PLEASE tell me this is a troll job.

Eastern europeans dominate all strength sports, dumbass. I take it you’ve never watched a powerlifting/strongmen contest? Hell most Olympic lifters are eastern european, asian or middle eastern…

No offence, but Americans generally aren’t shit compared to these in strength sports.

Each time I read this thread I feel like this little kid; Each time I think the onslaught of idiocy from the OP is done, in comes another round…for shame

Sorry, but I think you misinterpreted my entire post. I was dictating that Pudz was NOT the average rugby player and did NOT stand as a general representation of your sport.

I’ll post of few pictures of guys I played with in hopes of making my case. Remember, I played for a top 25 NCAA team, but not a powerhouse. The USC’s and Florida’s of the world certainly garner freakier specimens.

Calvin Johnson - Wide Reciever

Dawan Landry - Saftey (with the Ravens now)

Michael Johnson - Defensive End

Johnson is 6’8", 270 pounds, and runs in the 4.6s.

The fact is there are kids like this on every college team across the country - my team is no different than any other. So just imagine, the NFL is a collection of the absolute best of those type players.

Though I disagree that a comparison should be made - as aforementioned in my previous posts - but, for the sake of argument, how does your rugby locker room stack up?

I know you are trolling but please explain why, if Soccer players don’t make millions, please explain how John Terry has just been offered $400,000 per week to move from Chelsea to Man City, Christiano Ronaldo just moved from Man Utd to Real for nearly $150,000,000 and David Beckham is being payed Millions for occasionally wandering about a bit in LA?
