Why Is The 'Right' SO Scared?

“They hate us because of our freedoms”

First of all I think we should all swallow our pride and congratulate the terrorists on their easy win. I really think we could have won – but the right, apparently too frightened, decided it was better to surrender our American values in order to feel safe.

In the name of fighting terrorism the extreme right or Neocons, were scared so bad that they allowed 19 hijackers to change our entire nation and global policy – secret prisons, torture, domestic spying, treason, erosion of civil liberties and preemptive war, are now considered necessary to fight the war on terrorism. In the words of Cheney:
Cheney warns of ‘decades of war’
US Vice-President Dick Cheney has said that the US must be prepared to fight the war on terror for decades.

Like I said, congratulations.

Think of it another way. To some people in AMERICA – secret prisons, torture, domestic spying, treason, erosion of civil liberties, held without trial, etc and preemptive wars – HAVE STILL NOT CROSSED THE LINE OF WHAT THEY’RE WILLING TO ALLOW IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM. In other words they’re willing to give up everything America stands for, and even more apparently, if it will save their lives.

All this time I kept wondering what was so irritatingly familiar about the neocons and suddenly it dawned on me WHAT IT WAS about them!

Major Frank Burns

“The way I see it, unless we each conform, unless we obey orders, unless we follow our leaders blindly, there is no possible way we can remain free.”

“We all know it’s brutal up there at the front, especially those of us at the rear”

I think if the “right” is scared of anything, it might be of individuals who support their worldview with quotes from a television show…

Speaking of Cheney, has anyone ever seen him smile?? Every time I see a picture of him he has that ugly scowl on his face.

I’m a conservative Republican but I have no love for the neo-cons in the party. Cheney, Wolfenstein, Feith etc… those guys are lunatics. 2008 can’t get here fast enought (McCain baby!).

LOL!!

Yea, I supported the Bush administration until I read that ideological nugget from Major Burns.

Major Burns changed my life.

I truly hope he makes a run for it.

Being a firefighter you should do a little more research on what the NYFD actually think of Giuliani. There is A LOT of anger there – Giuliani is definitely a continuation of the Bush/Cheney clan.

NYC firefighters fight City Hall and win
NEW YORK - Amidst the burning rubble of the World Trade Center, firefighters continue to extinguish the two-month-old fires and search for the remains of thousands still buried there. Just as it should be.

The administration of Mayor Rudy Giuliani tried to put a stop to the search for human remains and speed the process of clearing out the 16-acre site by turning it into a “scoop and dump” operation.

Without consultation with the unions representing firefighters working at Ground Zero, Giuliani announced cuts in staffing, citing safety concerns. But the mayor met his match and lost. After a Nov. 2 demonstration of 1,000 firefighters and mourning families to stop the unilateral cuts and continue a dignified recovery of the victims, a scuffle broke out between the marchers and the police. Twelve firefighters were arrested.

Over a five-day period seven more were rounded up, including the presidents and other officers of the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) and Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA).

The last time a union leader was arrested in New York City was in 1966 when Mike Quill, Transport Workers Union president, called a transit strike in defiance of the state’s anti-labor Taylor Law.

Many firefighters and labor leaders were outraged by the “McCarthyite” tactics of the Giuliani administration. Others likened it to the tactics of fascist dictatorships. The firefighters had urged the city to make good on its promise to recover the remains of all the victims. Families flooded union offices with angry phone calls, but the administration refused to budge. The union leadership told the administration they had no choice but to march with their members and grieving families.

Contradicting Other Evidence,
Giuliani Says Firefighters Heard Order to Evacuate

For all the power of his voice and stature, however, Mr. Giuliani’s account must compete with a substantial and diverse body of evidence that flatly contradicts much of what he and his aides say happened that day, particularly on matters that could be seen as reflecting on the performance of his administration.

On perhaps the most painful of these, the loss of at least 121 firefighters in the north tower, Mr. Giuliani suggested that they stayed inside the trade center because they were busy rescuing civilians – never mentioning that they could not hear warnings from police helicopters, that many of them never learned the south tower had collapsed or that they were having serious problems staying in touch with their own commanders.

Witnesses who escaped from the tower tell a vastly different story than Mr. Giuliani.

Health Effects and Misinformation Drive 9/11 Suit
Leaseholders of the World Trader Center now face a suit from recovery workers, after hundreds of thousands of people were exposed to toxics immediately after the 9/11 attacks. This comes at the same time that a report reveals the government has not monitored or studied people suffering adverse health effects from 9/11.

Fourteen plaintiffs, including police officers, firefighters, transit workers, and other rescue workers filed the lawsuit Sept. 10. The law firm handling the case said more than 800 other plaintiffs are participating and that number could increase. The plaintiffs claim workers were not advised of the health risks in lower Manhattan, and proper precautions were not taken by the leaseholders of the trade towers. According to the law firm, additional actions will be taken against local governments in New York and New Jersey, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The General Accountability Office (GAO) released a report on Sept. 8 regarding the health effects from the aftermath of 9/11. It found that up to 400,000 New Yorkers breathed some of the most toxic air ever recorded. According to the report, “Almost all the firefighters who responded to the attack experienced respiratory harm, and hundreds had to end their firefighting careers due to WTC-related respiratory illness.”

Blame Rudy for ills
Fire union: Sick leave linked to 9/11 fallout

The firefighters union blamed its skyrocketing sick leave yesterday on former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - charging he and his fire commissioner “knowingly” sent firefighters into Ground Zero without proper safety equipment.

Welcome to Denmark Mr. Giuliani
But since when do you care about firefighters

What? No quote from Archie Bunker?

JTF,

As a legal matter, of course they are going to claim that whatever Guiliani or whoever they claim is responsible did was done “knowingly,” (on purpose, for the non-legal folks). If it were an accident, there would not be any potential for punitive damages, only for actual compensation. And that would not be good for the plaintiffs’ lawyers.

I’ve no idea what, if any, actual damages were suffered by the rescue workers – I hope that if they were injured while doing their duty, that the state and local governments (their employers) would compensate them for the injuries. The whole “knowingly” stuff seems to me, at quick glance, to be classic plaintiffs’ lawyer crap.

I like Giuliani because he cleaned up New York better than anyone else ever has.

It used to be, when you stepped off the bus at Port Authority, you were greeted with all those shithole “live girls!” places. He cleaned up 42nd Street, and made the city alot safer.

However, jumping from Mayor to President? There’s not a whole lot of international relations that you have to worry about being the mayor of NYC.

Although, he can’t possibly do a worse job than George II, so what the hell.

Agree. Rudy is much saner than McCain.

The more I see of McCain the more he scares me.

Bush’s team painted McCain as a nut in the 2000 primaries and it looks like they were right.

Quotes from Archie Bunker:

“Man was put on this earth to eat meat…The Bible says so dumbbell…I mean look it up will ya? All them old bible peoples, they was always eating meat; soon as they found out eating apples was wrong…It’s true, on special occasions: goats and lambs. Who the hell ever hear of sacrificing a head of lettuce? You?”

“The only thing that holds a marriage together is the husband being big enough to keep his mouth shut, to step back and see where his wife is wrong.”

“I didn’t swear! God Dammit. The first word is God. How can that be a swear word? It’s the most popular word in the bible. The second word, damn, that’s a perfectly good word, you hear it all the time, like they dam the river to keep it from flooding it. And you read in the Bible that some guy was damned for cheating or stealing or having sex in the family. And who damned him? Who else? God. God damned him. Edith, beautiful words right out of the Bible.”

Gloria: “Do you know that sixty percent of all deaths in America are caused by guns?”
Archie: “Would it make you feel any better, little girl, if they was pushed out of windows?”

Archie: “Now, no prejudice intended, but I always check with the Bible on these here things. I think that, I mean if God had meant for us to be together he’d a put us together. But look what he done. He put you over in Africa, and put the rest of us in all the white countries.”
Sammy Davis Jr. (guest starring on show): “Well, he must’ve told 'em where we were because somebody came and got us.”

No, but how bout’ a few from W…

“It would be a heck of a lot easier to be a dictator than work in a democracy”

  • George Bush

“It’s not a dictatorship in Washington, but I tried to make it one in that instance.”

  • George Bush

“You don’t get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier.”
-George Bush (Governing Magazine 7/98 -
describing what it’s like to be governor of Texas)

“I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don’t agree with each other, but that’s OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator” [Heh-heh.]
-George Bush

Here’s a good one.

“Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people.”
~Theodore Roosevelt

Ground Zero Air Wasn’t That Safe?
March 17, 2003
(CBS) Ground Zero tests by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the days immediately after the World Trade Center collapse did not support the agency’s own statements the air around the site was safe to breathe, a newspaper reported.

A report by the EPA’s Office of Inspector General said the agency reached its conclusion on the safety of the air using a cancer risk level 100 times greater than what it normally considers acceptable for public exposure to toxic contaminants.

The status report, obtained by The Sacramento Bee, supports the views of some doctors and public health advocates who evaluated thousands of firefighters, volunteers, demolition workers and laborers working on the site.

“To say that it’s safe, which suggests no risk, we just knew that was wrong,” said Jonathan Bennett, a spokesman for the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health.

“We felt, based upon the measurements that we had made away a mile away from the site, that the materials coming off of the hot collapse pile were much dangerous in fact than we had generally been led to believe,” Thomas Cahill, who led a University of California-Davis study, told CBS Radio News.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/03/17/health/main544217.shtml

BTW, the record of what happened that day is based almost solely on Giuliani and his staffs’ testimony (opinion) since emergency workers were not permitted to testify to the 9/11 Commission.

Trade Center Debris Pile Was a Chemical Factory, Says New Study
September 10, 2003
In the trade-center air samples, Cahill identified four classes of particles that have been named by the EPA as likely to harm human health:

Fine and very fine transition metals, which interfere with lung chemistry.

Acids, in this case sulfuric acid, which attack cilia and lung cells directly.

Very fine, un-dissolvable (insoluble) particles, in this case glass, which travel through the lungs to the bloodstream and heart.

High-temperature organic matter, many components of which are known to be carcinogens.

"For each of these four classes of pollutant, we recorded the highest levels we have ever seen in over 7,000 measurements we have made of very fine air pollution throughout the world, including Kuwait and China," Cahill said.

More pullution than the oil fires of Kuwait – once again the WTC collapses prove to be anomalies unlike any other…

Giuliani… so good he’s psychic.

TESTIMONY BY MAYOR RUDOLPH GIULIANI
BEFORE THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON TERRORIST ATTACKS UPON THE UNITED STATES
5/19/04

…And the reason Pier 92 was selected as the command center was because on the next day, on September 12, Pier 92 was going to have a drill. It had hundreds of people here from FEMA, from the federal government, from the state, from the State Emergency Management Office, and they were getting ready for a drill for a biochemical attack. So that was going to be the place they were going to have the drill.

The equipment was already there. So we were able to establish a command center there within three days that was two and a half to three times bigger than the command center that we had lost at 7 World Trade Center. And it was from there that the rest of the search and rescue effort was completed.

That is often repeated but wrong as anything i’ve ever heard.

They hate our culture. Since the crusades, western culture has came in sometimes forcibly often just because american stuff is " cool " .

But NO, the fundamentalist islamics will have none of this.

The war on terrorism from the muslims side is really a war against our culture.

These islamic fundamentalists sit in their mosque’s read the koran a for a bit, and sit and think how their own society is being corrupted by western influences. They are very conservative, they don’t want our music, sex on tv, books , ect. They equivocate our drug problems, astounding illiteracy rates in one of the richest countries, ect with our american arrogance and culture. They look back to the middle ages when the middle east was doing much better than europe economically and culturally as well, and much like our conservatives, want to bring their own country back to " the way it used to be ".

Mabey i will flesh out this idea in a future post but thats all for now.
