Oh, theres nothing wrong with faith.

Theres something wrong with people (you) thinking really fucking stupid things and mislabeling it “faith”.

Faith that your girlfriend is loyal when shes never given you reason to doubt her = good.

“Faith” that your girlfriend is loyal when she lists her status as “single” on facebook, and she has several recent pictures up of her kissing other guys, and she broke up with you three years ago = really fucking stupid.

“Faith” in sky wizard is like the second example, not the first.
What about faith that you exist of your own accord?

The only way to not have “stupid faith” is to have no beliefs at all about the nature of existence.
Please, stop.
Truth hurts huh?
No, bad arguments hurt. Again, you’re trying to hijack the definition of “proof” and “belief” to say “Anything anybody thinks is valid because people think other things.”

By your logic, “I believe my car will start today” is EXACTLY ON PAR WITH “I have an inviible pink unicorn”.

Its really, really, painfully bad.

No, please quote anywhere in any of my posts I made such a retarded comparison. And something can’t be invisible and pink to begin with.

I have only compared believing that you exists of your own accord to believing that you do not exist of your own accord. Why is one of those beliefs dumb and the other not?

The pink unicorn shit is stupid. I’ve never made any such comparison or assertion. Address my actual point instead of inventing stuff I didn’t say to argue with and mock.

I believe I exist = I believe my car will start.

I believe an invisbile wizard man is watching me all the time = I have an invisible pink pony.

You: If you believe you exist, how can you say believing in God is stupid? You cant prove you exist!

Me: wow, that’s dumb.
drfitness wrote:

Simmer down…and what you’re describing is trust, not faith in the context of faith like a believer has faith, blindly accepting things that have no basis in reality. You trust those things won’t happen because your past experiences have given you a reason to.
Here’s the thing. Current reality is simply a reflection of how the majority perceive the world. In the Dark Ages, the majority of the world honestly perceived that the earth was flat. That the earth was not flat had no basis in their reality.

Well the same can be applied to current times and even to individuals. Your reality is different from my reality which is different from my granddad’s reality.
drfitness wrote:
And you missed my point. Sure those books try and redeem themselves by saying things like love, peace, etc…but a book that also speaks of genocide, killing babies, etc. is in no way a ‘divine’ book inspired by a ‘loving god’…it’s also surprising that you sent me a link to a pedophile website you sick fuck!!

Just so everyone that reads this knows…akram.mohamed actually visits PEDOPHILE websites and then tries to get other people to go to them…you are one sick fucker!!!

Wait…it’s in those holy books you’re defending, so it just stands to figure that that’s what you’re into I guess…
You don’t believe in the existence of a god. That’s fine. So how would you know how that god chooses to inspire a book?

I posted that link to point out the severe hyperbole of calling the Bible the “most immoral book” which you did in your first post.

Besides that’s not a pedophilia website; Buzzfeed is actually an RSS based site that gathers popular recently posted articles and blogs from around the web in one place…

Maybe you should actually read the article…?

This actually kinda pisses me off. In writing, this is referred to as an ad-hominem attack, literally meaning “against man”. It’s a sign of desperation when the arguer attacks his opponent’s character rather than his opponent’s argument.

Knowing this, I’m thinking you’re a kid or troll. If you are a troll, congrats, you’ve managed to spike my blood pressure.

No, they are not logically equivalent. And at this point I wasn’t even discussing whether or not you exist. Please refer to my previous post to see what I actually talked about.

But you once again attempt to skirt my point.

“The only way to not have “stupid faith” is to have no beliefs at all about the nature of existence”

So, if I believe I exist, is that “stupid faith”?

“nature of existence”

You must have missed the qualifier before existence.

Why/how you exist. Meaning. metaphysical origin. First cause (or belief in no first cause). perpetual existence. Existence in and of itself. Infinite regress. est.

Anyone who would threaten someone for their personal beliefs in no way affecting them has issues.

Because the rabid far left has no patience for anything other than their politically correct agenda. Many of them, if they could get away with it, would in fact try to silence those of us who believe in God just about any way possible.

But none of this is a surprise to me as the Bible predicts that this will occur. In fact, they are acting this way right on cue.

I was attempting an expanded definition of the “nature of origin” they don’t need to be sentences.

Still avoiding the argument, apparently resorting to semantics at this point.

Because the rabid far right has no patience for anything that does not comport lock-step with their religious agenda (you must be saved, you’re damned, etc.). Many of them, and they have gotten away with it, have silenced those that do not believe in their God in just about any way possible, including murder and the burning of books and records.

Does the above sound familiar?

No offense but religious persecution goes both ways.

I’m more inclined to believe in the corruption and evil of human nature than the excuses people use for it.

We’re having this discussion in Bible Contradictions 2.0. At the risk of unwanted spillover here to there and back, do you think humans are “hardwired” to have any frame of reference, any possible understanding, any grasp whatsoever on the concept of “eternity”. If we do, I’d like to hear it because all things we experience begin and end. Perhaps it’s this paradigm of of our minds that leads us to search so desperately for “why” and “how”. Maybe it just “is” and always will be.

I don’t think I made any point that would imply that “corruption” does not go both ways. Man is corrupt. We know this. But throughout history, which have we seen? Have we seen atheists campaign against the rights of the religious, to the point of murder, war and censorship? Or have we seen those campaigns waged in the name of religion against another religion? In fact, we are now in the midst of that very dynamic with Islam. Does Christianity have clean hands? When collateral damage in the way of innocent lives occurred in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, do you think those innocents distinguished between America and Christianity in light of our then President’s references to “his God”?

I submit there is a Holy war occurring right now, and Christianity is very much a participant.
