I highly doubt nasty older people became nasty as they got older. They were likely nasty since they were a kid.

Having met God knows how many middled-aged and old people in my life at work and elsewhere, I only remember a relative few I would consider wise or who taught me something in particular. So this notion of older people not having to be well-mannered because they made their bones by default, simply by existing, or that they are inherently wiser than others is bogus.
I canāt speak for many people (even though I do) but I was a nasty person turned nice with the ABILITY to turn nasty when the mood fits .. itās like an amazing super power imo

My grandfather grew up during the Depression then took time off from college to volunteer to fight in WW2. He ended up not getting blown up over the skies of Germany, came back, went to graduate school, got married, had kids, had a career, opened a business after retiringā¦ Iām sure some 30 year old who plays video games and watches comic book based movies would have found him ornery.
The thing is, it was an entire generation that did what needed to be done and didnāt complain about it.
Over summer break the city would hire college and HS students to work with the full time guys in the parks and recreation department. One day some of us, not me, pissed off an older employee and he called them a bunch of pussies followed by something to the effect of, āwhen I was your age I had a rifle on my back while I climbed up a hill as the Japanese were killing my friends all around me.ā It became very quiet for a minute then the apologies started.
Iāve heard this appeal to authority many, many timesā¦ or perhaps primarily from a few senior citizens within my family, thus my thoughts may be somewhat biased. My brother and I have been āschooledā on sociopolitical issues by our grandma, despite said relative not being up to date on current events. I think the funniest thing sheās ever said was during a conversation with my brother.

I generally believe the neurodegeneration associated with ageing can be associated with a loss of inhibition. As to the ālack of a filterā that old people have as @zecarlo statesā¦ I donāt think this is a bad thing. At times white lies/softening the truth can be necessary for self preservation in tense/dangerous situations, though as a neurodivergent individual I think we would be far better off if we simply told the truth/spoke our minds during day to day social interactions as opposed to spuriously fabricating our views and beliefs in effort to make someone else happy then proceeding to talk someone behind their back (as can be prevalent with dating, teaching, familial interactions etc). Whatever goes around, comes around; and itās far more irritating to find out someone was lying through a third party as opposed to the initial conversation consisting of the truth i.e ālets just be friendsā or āI donāt agree with your political stance hereā etc.
The sheer frequency by which I hear FAMILY members talk trash about one another over the phone irks me. If the trash talk is deserved as the individual at hand is legitimately nasty/did something wrong, so be it. But typically this kind of āgossipingā is usually just nasty and involves ātrash talkingā an individual who has otherwise done absolutely nothing wrong. Such conduct serves to hurt others in the long run

What do you think of fad diets like the Esselstyn diet? I tried a plant based diet for a few months at one point in time, my total cholesterol/LDL-C dropped by like 10-15 percent; this is quite significant.
I have a love/ hate relationship with KFC. I donāt eat it often, but really enjoy it when I do, but only until I have finished. Then I feel like a dirty whore.(not talking about after meal antics.
I donāt discuss politics with seniors but I often differ to them on various things that I think I know a lot about. It was about learning how to filter out the wrong and irrelevant stuff they say and extracting the stuff that can only derived through experience.
Itās not easy and can be infuriating at times but Iāve had a lot of practice over the years. But the benefits are great if you can apply the wisdom you manage to derive from them.
