I dunno. Those people exist for sure, but I don’t feel like they’re around in astounding numbers. Unless we’re talking LA/NYC or Silicon Valley where $150,000 is basically $60,000 due to out of control cost of living inflation I’d be really hard pressed to think of many examples.
I’ve had a long running joke with a friend of mine that you know you’ve made it when you get paid big bucks and have a fancy title to just show up, drink coffee, and talk to new hires about how good you used to be.

I always imagine Lumberg from Office Space.
I’ve observed useless salaries above 100k with mid-level managers at a multi-billion dollar company and all over state government. Small-mid size businesses I’ve been at can’t and don’t run with a useless bag of bricks like that.
One of my managers seemingly got the job of managing our data governance group due to her South African accent. I can’t imagine any other reason for her to have that job aside from sex, drugs or some type of blackmail being involved. She was the type of person who clearly picked up a lot of jargon but didn’t actually understand the definition of the words she was using. It was cringe-worthy and (presumably) embarrassing for her, but she moved on to some other position not long after.
That bitch also threw me under the bus for her fuck-up. I’m so far past needing the reference at this point I should find her on Linkedin just to remind her that she was a low-integrity, low-intelligence bitch when she pulled that stunt 12 years ago. Be right back…
State government was a den of incompetence with a culture of sucking so pervasive that pointing out obvious problems (as you would in the private sector) makes you enemies very quickly. I’m frankly amazed that they can keep the state webpage up and running. They sure as shit can’t fill the potholes.
Luckily for the rest of the world, my state government seems to be giving up on road maintenance and instead focusing on saving the planet.

The only reason it doesn’t completely fall apart is due to the 10% who do 90% of the work.

So that’s where the excise tax goes.
These leaders of the natural elite act as judges and peacemakers, often free of charge out of a sense of duty expected of a person of authority or out of concern for civil justice as a privately produced “public good.”
And how many “aristocrats,” both in the past and the present, act so kindly towards the commoners out of the goodness of their hearts? I’m not hating on rich people, but this seems like a romanticized view of the elite.
Well when white people were the overwhelming majority in USA the birth rate was 3.6 children per women. Now its less than 2 per woman.
Don’t African, Hispanic, etc. people have more babies than a lot of white families? Are declining birth rates due to race or societal changes in attitudes towards children/families?
in no cases were the NATIVE populations ever asked if they wanted it . They still haven’t ever been asked since
Boy that’s gotta suck…
societal changes in attitudes towards children/families
Ding ding ding, we have a winner here.

I don’t know anything about this guy’s work, but I think the quote in itself is an extreme generalization of a segment of people as a whole.
There are some rich elites I know, some of whom worked they way up from real poverty, who genuinely want to change the system for the better while they drive around in their Ferraris but they have the resources and capabilities of creating at least minor dents in certain things that matter. Whether one agrees with their politics or not is another story.
One the flipside, I’ve seen real, extreme debauchery going on while entertaining, and even coordinating events held by, super rich clients. I think I’ve even defended Trump’s “grab them by the pussy” line before because a lot of women who attend events held by them are literally there to get their pussies “grabbed”. Hypothetically, I’ve had my own crotch grabbed and then almost spat at when a chick thought I was one of them but then realized I was just one of the coordinators.
HOWEVER, I do not believe lots of, if not most, average people wouldn’t act the same way if they had the same kind of resources these elites have. I’m not too optimistic about the human condition.

He goes beyond wealth to nobility and inherited power. The nobility’s superiority is the result of superior breeding. The guy believes in eugenics.
That’s just silly. People are people. Some are inherently dicks while some are genuinely good. It’s a complex myriad of environmental variables that factor into what they eventually turn out to be, most of which we are not privy to.
It’s why I diss a couple of pro-freedom activists in HK while supporting others and generally supporting the idea.
Democracy is pretty flawed. But I can’t think of a better alternative.
IMO the argument should be how to improve it, not find a different system altogether. It’s the old “throwing the baby out with the bathwater” kind of thing.

Speaking only for myself, I’m trending towards dick behavior as I grow older. I expect to be an insufferable and cantankerous lout by the time I retire. With any luck my various plans will converge in such a way, and I might be left alone for a few precious moments of peace.
If you don’t have a safety net at all you risk all sorts of negative consequences.
I’d argue against that.
But I don’t think you will end up at the extreme end of the spectrum when it comes to good and dickishness. Most of us are in the middle.
I’ve personally mellowed down a lot. I don’t know what I’m going to be like in the future but I don’t think I’m going to be walking on water any time soon.
Edit: On second thought, I’ll just delete my ill-conceived post and leave this here as a reminder. It wasn’t funny unless you’re really fucked up, so I’ll edit it out of existence.
Btw, just want to point out that I know that these are not representative of @zecarlo’s views/words and that my quote of him was of his quote of someone else. Realized after rereading it that it may not have been apparent at first glance.
I’d argue against that
I don’t think we’re going to agree but I’d be interested to hear your argument.

I think many older people feel less of a need to be polite. They’ve lived, they have “superior life experience” compared to young whippersnappers such as myself. Why should they have to designate valuable time and effort to be polite when they know better than everyone else?
I don’t agree with this ideology, rather I’ve seen this kind of mentality conveyed within SOME senior citizens… or even just older vs younger demographics. When my brother was in middle school (in the USA) the senior kids were absolute shitheels towards him. They were all in some of the same clubs. Keep in mind my brother is INCREDIBLY smart whereas I inherited the irresponsible dumbass gene. His knowledge pertaining to the realms that encompassed these clubs frequently surpassed that of the 12th grade kids, yet they’d always put him down, tell him to STFU as they were seniors/older and he wasn’t and therefore they knew better.
Ugh… I hate this type of attitude. A younger opinion doesn’t automatically equate to said opinion being irrelevant.
