Ok so I’m a little over weight 25-30 lbs. I started lifting seriously a week ago and I’ve noticed on my off days, I can’t eat. It’s not that I don’t want to but I’m just not hungry. On my Lifting days I struggle to put in 2000 quality calories. On my off days I’m eating maybe 900-1200 at best. Three weeks ago I could suck down a whole large pizza by myself in on sitting.
Is it a quality vs. quantity thing???
Sounds like you need to train yourself to eat when you’re not hungry.
When I used to have soccer preseason in high school we would practice twice a day for a total of about 10 hours. When I’d come home I’d sleep in a hot sweat and would never be hungry. It was weird but I got over it.
Might be depression, which causes a lack of appetite. Just try to eat ever 2-3 hours.
I have the same problem!
I know how often I need to eat but it is quite hard
Make sure you eat small portions often. Make the portions smaller but just eat more of them. I used to eat very little and when I started training six weeks ago I decided to stick with a plan. Eating was difficult. I was trying to down a huge omelette with veggies for breakfast and having such a hard time and hating every minute of it.
I decided to cut it down to three eggs instead (about half) and an hour later I will eat again either solid food or a shake. It really helps. Now I have no problem eating every three hours and eat close to 2000 calories per day (I weigh around 120 lbs.)
Sucks but you just have to choke food down sometimes, I HATE tuna and stuff that crap down my throat almost daily.
Eat, and eat, and eat again. You have conditioned yourself to eat smaller portions, you percieve a lack of hunger and satiety different. You may not be hungry but for now you are going to have to just choke down the food.
And, eating clean will be a larger quantity of food, not as caloricly dense as pizza.
Happy eating.
The funny thing is today being a training day I was eating all day, I wasn’t really hungry but I could eat. but yesterday I had trouble forcing myself to eat.
Amanda brought up something important that you probably won’t realize until a few more weeks pass…you just have to try eating smaller portions more often. Your body is going through a shift in metabolism and energy expenditure so it should be expected that your hunger pangs will be kind of random. Just try and stuff yourself every 2 hours with small meals and don’t worry about whether its 5 am or 10 pm just make sure to eat and your stomach will learn to accommodate it in time.
Why don’t you just do cardio for me and I’ll eat your extra calories.

I can empathize. I do not like eating at all and stick to eating enough on workout days but struggle on rest days. My policy is eat every two hours out of habit. If I happen to get hungry at some point, eat more but I do not change my every two hour rule. so sometimes I eat get half hour for a few hours. Whatever, I rarely seem to eat enough.
Shakes come in handy for me. An odd one I really enjoy is 10 oz V8 and one scoop of Grow! Tastes pretty good and the fiber helps me feel full.
I probably end up with three shakes of some sort a day.
If you really are having trouble eating, try eating very calorie dense food. Add peanut butter to some shakes to get another 200-400 calories in each time.
You cant get big just of protien shakes and peanut butter, so like the others said, you’re going to have to condition yourself to eat.
I had your problem for a while, but after forcing yourself to eat for a few days it just becomes habit, and its much easier to get the food down.
Tex AG, what flavor do you use with the v8?
Eat more smaller meals. Alternate solid and liquid meals and eat every 2 hours.
Kick your metabolism into high gear.
