Why are White Men Afraid to be Bald?

Steroids.

“professionalism”
also, when you live in the hood, looking like Ed Norton in American History X (except at 225+) is not the most conducive to staying out of trouble. this hasn’t deterred me from trimming it as short as 1/8" during the summer though (vs. about 3/8" - 1/2" the rest of the year).

I’m Hispanic, and mostly bald, but I still don’t have the cojones to shave it off. Instead, I get it clipped every 2 weeks at a “half” setting, which is the closest thing to a zero barbers have.
I think shaving it off would be more work.

the worst is when balding guys let it grow long, and put the few wisps of hair into a ridiculous pony tail.

This thread inspired me to shave my head.

It feels weird.

And now I gotta go tan my scalp.

THAT was effin’ funny, Trib!

Most white men (who don’t lift) have pencil necks tbh. A pencil neck with a large-ass melon on top looks terrible bald.
If you’re a pinhead, its even worse lol.

I usually go for guys that are bald. I have been trying to think how to describe why I feel they are hot to me until I read this post. Tribunaldude is right with saying you need to have big shoulders. It balances it out, IMO. The majority of men will lose their hair and I would rather know how they are going to look without it.

My husband shaved his head in a solidarity thing when his step-mother had breast cancer.

I thought he looked really hot, but he hated the upkeep.

Whaaaaaat? It’s easier to shave than have to constantly maintain longer hair.

yeah right. all you need to do with long hair is gel it, takes like 5 minutes if you want to REALLY take your time.

you might want to get it trimmed up every so often depending how it grows on on you too.

my uncle was explaining to me that your hair traits are the same as your uncle rather than your father (they come from mother’s side) so he told me id basically never go bald but id have salt and pepper hair by the time i was 25. which is probaly going to turn out true cause i already have a bunch of grays and im only 21.

Your uncle might be wrong. I have been reading up on hair loss for a while now and that seems to be a myth. Read about that one as well as some others:

http://www.surviving-hairloss.com/Hair_Loss_Myths.html

Had a minor accident when cutting my own hair about 12 years ago - the attachment fell off & I ended up putting a near reverse mohawk strip into the side of my head - I then figured, oh what the hell & shaved it all off.

Been this way since (shaved bald) I cannot imagine myself any other way anymore especially since my hair thinned early in my 20s. My head shape is roundish enough I guess to pull it off.

My parents hated it but since are used to it - they used to ask when I was released from prison - my wife loves it.

A lot of other guys I know also have shaved heads & we all get by - just need to hat up when it is winter… when it rains or is windy I always bitch about how it has ruined/will ruin my 'do :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a very good question and I will try to give it an honest response.

  1. I was always VERY attached to my hair. I had very long hair when I was young. Working in the corporate world with all of its conformity, drabness, etc. my hair (at least in my mind) was a way of keeping me separate from the Zombies.

  2. It was one thing to choose to be bald and another to see your hair be not as thick and nice anymore. At first it didn’t occur to me to shave my head. Secondly, the loss of hair was a reminder that I was no longer young (for me it started happening in my late 30s) and, quite honestly I had some difficulty coming to terms with that.

  3. Let’s face it, not everybody looks good bald. Some people have those lumpy, lima bean heads. I was happy, when I finally made the decision, to discover my head was smooth and that it looked pretty good on me.

  4. Now, I am not going to lie to you. If I could get my full head of thick hair back, I would. Nonetheless, a shaved head works pretty well for me. Much better than my thinning hair, for sure. Besides, working out and having a shaved head makes me look pretty bad-ass, at least relative to the corporate clones I work with…so it serves, in that case, the same function as my long hair did.

Everyone says that, and in my case it’s true. All the men on my mother’s side of the family are fucking bald.
My father is 78 and has a full head of hair. I’m bald.

I think a bald head is a bit intimidating. It is associated with thick meathead types (which for some may be a plus),neo-nazis,some sorts of musicians and monks, but nobody thinks of the latter type.

I sometimes want to shave actually to go for that ‘monk’ feel but I don’t think that’s how the audience sees it.

If I started losing hair, then I would have no problem with shaving it but I’m just going to err on the safe side for now.

My dad is 76 and rocks an incredibly thick do. I started losing my hair at 20 and was sporting a mini comb-over at 22. I got the balls to shave my head bald when I was 23. When all the chicks I worked with were rubbing my head, I knew it was the right decision. I am currently 6’6"/275 with a moderately long Vandyke. The upkeep is simple and the chicks still seem to dig it.

The key point is that regardless of the shape of your melon or the color of your skin, no one with boobs likes a comb-over.

This is simply an observation. I’ve noticed that the majority of white males I’ve known in real life and on television have a fear of losing their hair. Most black guys I know welcome the hair loss as an opportunity to wear the bald look. On the other hand most white men comb the few strands they have over and wear a ring around their head to savor the last hair they have. I’d venture to bet Rogaine’s sales market is primarily white males. Why is that, bald is okay…welcome your age.[/quote]

This is RACIST! The fact that I dread hairloss is a white thing and you’ll never understand, so don’t push your comfort in being bald on me! Just because you think it’s all about “equality of scalp” does not make it true.

Just because you think there’s no balding issues with whites in this country today does not mean we don’t experience the prejudice from many every day of our lives.

You just don’t know the trials we have endured, and don’t try and say you understand.

Girl, I’ve been shaving my head mach-3 style for years now. Lost that shit when I was 20 years old.

Are you saying that mom was fooling around?

The traits might come from your mother’s side but you can’t get any traits from an uncle.

The old Crestor cholesterol drug commercials use to talk about cholesterol levels coming from grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Bob or Aunt Lil. Whoa! You can’t inherit something from an aunt or uncle unless there’s been some funny business going on. They’ve long since changed the commercials.

Going bald? Try HOT-ROX Extreme…

From the article…
When applied topically to the scalp and facial skin, 0.01% RK [raspberry ketone] promoted hair growth in 50.0% of humans with alopecia (n=10) at 5 months after application and increased cheek skin elasticity at 2 weeks after application in 5 females (p<0.04).

I think you need to rub it on though. Maybe we should start a thread for that.
