I had this happen a few months ago. I apparently ruined their “circuit” by asking to use the one HS incline machine. I sat down anyway because I wasn’t about to wait for 30min for all of them (four guys in total) to finish their little circuit. It didn’t help that none of them were very developed either.
… and I suppose that wasn’t rude of you? You wasn’t about to wait for them to finish because they were undeveloped and didn’t know what they were doing? I suppose if they were developed, you would find another exercise to do…
I can feel your pain watching them doing that crap, but 4 guys taking up 3 machines is not unreasonable, and just plopping down on the machine and saying: “so what are you going to do about it”-is an asshole thing to do.
I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing this hypocritical attitude.
Itchy, this is the “I can do whatever, whenever” Iwas talking about. It wasn’t explicitly stated, but it’s certainly being implied in posts.
Working in with people is standard gym procedure. This whole thread is kinda pointless.
Working in is standard procedure, I agree. If someone tells me “no”, however, then that settles that.
The thread and arguing is pretty pointless, yes. As are most threads on this particular section of the boards.

I would agree with you depending on the situation. Guys using several machines telling me no is a situation where it would be well within your right to work yourself in. The owner of my gym agrees.
The OP didn’t even wait around. He left and then stated he came back about 3min later. ANYONE could have done that. If he didn’t see the guy do it, he is jumping to conclusions.
But again, even if he did do it, what is the issue? 20 WHOLE kg? The horror.
I would say its not the actual action, its the mindset of the guy doing it. Its malicious, and for no reason. He has to take time out of his workout/day to do that.
If I were the guy I wouldn’t of moved either, but I wouldn’t be so upset about being asked that I wold resort to trying to piss the other guy off, especially if it meant more work on my part. Just yesterday someone asked If I would mind moving my dead lift over a couple feet, which was a completely ridiculous request considering my position and the weight on the bar.
But I just told them I only has a couple sets left and they would have to wait. I didn’t finish up and then hide the bar or leave my weights in their way. Not a huge deal but still just childish.
But as you said it might not of been him and we weren’t there so we could argue hypothetical all day.

I don’t see the difference in 3 guys using those three machines (one guy on each machine), and those same guys (4 of them, even) “sharing” the machines.
If it was one guy trying to take up 3 machines, I would agree.

He didn’t say he made the guys leave or evens top what they were doing–he just worked himself in on the equipment. What does that have to do with how developed he is or how undeveloped they were?
Sure, PX has a bit of a superior attitude when talking about these dudes, but what he thinks of them has little to do with whether it was innapropriate for him to work in on the machines.
This is different than asking someone to completely change their set-up so that you can save a couple of minutes.

In your proposed situation why would they say no except to be assholes? They are all moving from machine to machine workin out together whats one more guy working in. I treat everyone with as much respect as I would want. When not returned it isnt returned from me either. We are just arguing silly details now lol!

Just worked himself in? Lol, pX probably uses 3 plates a side to warm up on that machine. That would have to fuck up whatever they were doing. Regardless of how silly their workout was, it is not right to do what he did. It is the same as he was saying earlier about someone much weaker trying to work in. It is just as impractical to have someone much stronger working in, no?

You guys are bashing the OP like he was a dick for even asking. All he did was ask. In a facility with only ONE rack it would be general courtesy to to move.
The holier-than-though " I’m bigger, I’ve made it, so I can do whatever, wherever, whenever" without ANY consideration for a fellow gym member is fucking stupid.
Best post yet.
Granted, you had an hour, you could have done squats later.

4 guys literally going from one machine to the next in turn (meaning they would all finish one exercise before moving on but would get pissed if anyone began to use a machine THEY WERE NOT USING AT THE MOMENT) IS very unreasonable.

While I think this is a valid point, I can honestly say I get more annoyed when small people ask to work in than when large people ask to work in. I feel like the larger people have already paid their dues, so to speak, while a smaller person could be fucking up your workout and then quit training next week.
Either way, I’m not a fan of working in with people and never ask to unless it’s a cable machine.

Exactly. I actually got the nod from one of the trainers watching this happen. They weren’t even on the machine I needed. It was simply in their “rotation”.

Not unless the forementioned is not returning the machine to original condition after the set. (which was not specified) That is how I roll workin in with weaker dudes. Goddamn I must be bored! Can we disscuss naked chics or something now?
The only time I can remember someone asking me to move I was doing Overhead Barbell Presses using the type of rack the op is describing. I was aware of this girl behind me. She was clearly stressing because I had the rack she wanted. I pretended to be oblivious.
Her boyfriend went over and put together a set up as close as possible to what I had on a different type of rack then asked me to move. I did and he stayed and spotted me for all my sets. That’s probably the best possible way to handle that situation. The guy was cool with me and he was a hero for his girlfriend.

Ah, that wasn’t quite what I pictured them doing. I agree that sounds quite unreasonable.
