But hey, it must make you feel better to think the guy bigger and stronger than you…with the hotter girlfriend, is inadequate in some way. It couldn’t just be…that he passed your level up a long time ago.

I get it…you are one of those little guys who gets pissed any time they see someone larger get any respect based on what they have accomplished in the gym.

It’s alright. It will be ok.

Reality check: The really built people usually do know what they are doing…especially when compared to the average clueless weekend warrior who uses most machines like lawn chairs.

You asked, he said no, that should have been it. But acting like a know it all, you said it would be or should be no problem to lift that amount of weight off the floor for rows.

With his GF or whoever standing there, that is basically an insult. Even if he is perfectly healthy, you basically just called him out for using light weights in front of a “smoking hottie” who maybe he is trying to reach GF status with.

People need to learn to respect other people and not pass judgement because you can’t get your way right now. If you had to squeeze in a workout in 1 hour, you should have a backup plan, hell maybe do leg presses for one workout instead of squats. Do you really think it would have derailed your lifelong progressin? In 5 years would you be smaller or weaker if you had done leg presses or single leg squats? Hell go on the open floor and do some overhead squats, you don’t need a rack for that.

Asking wasn’t wrong, but if someone says no, then you really need to just move on with your life.

V
I completly agree with you Vegita - although I didn’t think about it in depth at that time.

However, the only reason I made the suggestion to do them from the floor is because if I were him, and somebody(who appeared to be a serious lifter) came up to me and asked to use the squat rack for squats, I would of gladly complied. This is just me. I didn’t think I was out of line suggesting this, although there do seem to be some pretty mixed opinions about it.

I would never ask somebody to do something that I would not do myself.

If the guy was squatting of military pressing, I probably wouldn’t of even of approached him.

First off, he didn’t ask him to “change everything he was doing”. He asked him to pick it up off the floor. He would still have been doing rows.

WTF? He would not be doing rows like he was in the first place. That is like asking someone to get off the straight leg calf machine and do them standing so you can use the machine because you are in a rush. Why the fuck should someone change what they are doing for you or anyone else?

Also, your still throwing out that the OP is “much weaker” just because of BW numbers. If he was 250 rowing 140, I’d say he was more fat than strong. You seem to be doing something that you chastise others for here. Not actually reading what was said.

You are clueless. You don’t know about any other injuries this guy may have had. You don’t know what he was training for, if he had a contest coming up, if he was simply weaker that day. You KNOW NOTHING but are assuming all of this negative shit all because the OP was in a rush.

Cute.

Lessons in the gym? About what? Common sense? That’s funny.

It is funny…that this many people are devoid of it lately.
I feel like your playing dumb so you don’t have to concede a point. Of course he would be rowing the same. Regardless of where the bar rests between sets, once he starts the set, it’s the same fucking exercise.

So just because someone might be getting ready to compete means they shouldn’t (or can’t) pull 140 from the floor? Prep or not, it’s 140. And LOL at back injury. If his back is fucked enough to not be pulling 140 from the floor, he damn sure wouldn’t/shouldn’t be doing bent rows.

As far as assuming goes, I know as much as you do about this situation, X. You have thrown the injured arguement and have no idea if he was or not just to prove your point. I haven’t assumed any negative shit. Only that the foellow should have had a little more courtesy.

If he didn’t want to move, that was his prerogative, I agree. Doesn’t mean I have to agree with that type of action. Especially just be cause he was “bigger”.

I think it is rude to ask anybody to move. I do not do it and when asked I do not move. I ask and let people work in with me everyday however. I do also think it is rude for anybody to say take up the one power rack in my gym for extended periods of time. That is rude. People just need to use their brains.

What the hell? I did 40lbs dumbbell curls the other day. If you saw me doing them, would you assume I was too weak to do more? Would you log into some internet forum and tell people I must be morbidly obese because that is all I was doing. Does that mean I should simply move if someone else wanted those particular dumbbells?

Unless you follow me around my entire workout, you would have no fucking clue where that 40lbs fit in or why.

But I am the one playing dumb?

It doesn’t matter if this guy was doing them on the fucking stair case, unless the GYM ITSELF had a problem with it, why the fuck should he move just so you can use the same area?

I NEVER do bent over rows from the floor…but I should start doing them that way if you r someone else wants to use the rack I am using? Sorry, buddy. Won’t happen.

The new fad I’ve seen is two or three people jumping between 3 different HS machines and getting offended if you ask to work in.

I had this happen a few months ago. I apparently ruined their “circuit” by asking to use the one HS incline machine. I sat down anyway because I wasn’t about to wait for 30min for all of them (four guys in total) to finish their little circuit. It didn’t help that none of them were very developed either.

Dude, seriously, this fucking line is old. Do you cut and paste these statements? If somebody disagrees with you it’s cause the are jealous of big guys. It’s because they’re “little”. Have an intelligent arguement once in a while.

This has nothing to do with bigger/smaller and you know it. You have NO FUCKING IDEA how “built” this guy was. You accused me of assuming things I don’t know, now stop being a hypocrite.

The lawn chair line, wow. I just can’t come back from that. I sure wish I “knew what I was doing” so I can hang with teh big guys.
Professor X wrote:
I am still trying to understand what the big deal is with putting “20kg” on the top rung of the rack. How is that an issue?
I was thinking that the OP was really short and could barely reach it or something. Is this not right OP?

This is kind of a complicated issue. Everyone has seen people using equipment in ways that are inconsistent with their intended use, and it can be very annoying.

But on the other hand, as Prof X said, maybe had some injury that made him want to use the rack.
But here’s the thing: what business is it of anyone elses how he’s using it? That’s really between him and gym management.

He got there first, and he’s got dibbs. That’s THE over riding factor. He was there first, so he gets to use the device and everyone else just has to wait till he’s through.
That’s the way it works. Period.

Maybe I’m just not that sensitive.

I think the lesson here has litle to do with “gym etiquitte” and more to do with reading and understanding people. It’s not like you commited a felony here, but it probably wasn’t something you should have gotten agitated over. I mean for real getting irritated about it doesn’t effect the other guy at all. If you miscomunicated in some way and he took it the wrong way, so be it. If he really was being a douche because you made him insecure in front of his lady friend, so be it. I know you didn’t do it on purpose. Perhaps the kid was just thinking about some hot poon tang when he racked the bar to the top of the rack. You never can really tell, so the best approach to get you through life happy and healhty, is to let shit roll off your back and give people the benefit of the doubt. This way you will probably offend less people inadvertantly, and if someone is giving you shit, you will care about it less. This will give you more energy to spend on the important things, like friends, family, lifting etc…

It sounds like you understood my points and for this I am glad.

Well if the guy was doing rows with 140 lbs, stripped all the weight, put two quarters on there and then pressed it to the top of the rack just to try and get a reaction out of the OP…seems a little childish don’t you think?

The OP asked if he would move, guys says no, everyone moves on. No need for stupid shit like that.
Mr.Purple wrote:
Asking someone to move is impolite any way you cut it. It would be just as impolite for a 280 lb guy to ask a 140 lb guy to move out of the squat rack. Even if the small guy was doing some weird shit no-one needs a squat rack for.

The squat-curlers pay the same membership dues as me, so they can have at it.
I don’t see a problem with asking someone to work in on a set, but I would be bugged if someone suggested I change my set-up to accomodate them. First come first serve, IMO.

Bodyweight, back injuries, and 140 lbs. rows aside, I still think he was just showing ass in response to his GF being there, probably because he felt OP was busting his balls in front of her.

The OP didn’t even wait around. He left and then stated he came back about 3min later. ANYONE could have done that. If he didn’t see the guy do it, he is jumping to conclusions.

But again, even if he did do it, what is the issue? 20 WHOLE kg? The horror.

Wow. As much bitching about people putting words into your mouth and twisting what you say around, you sure do an awful lot of it. I said if he was as “built” as you were assuming he was, he SHOULD be able to. Has nothing to do with the weight he was moving at that particular time.

As far as WHY he should move? Like I said, it’s his prerogative. Apparently you and I have different views on courtesy in a facility with limited equipment.

You can have whatever policy towards moving you want. Your stance on moving wasn’t ever questioned. I think most her could have guessed your position.

Yep the circuit training guys load up 5 different stations and give me dirty looks when I work myself in. I smile. When they come back I put their 25lb plates back on for them.

I can feel your pain watching them doing that crap, but 4 guys taking up 3 machines is not unreasonable, and just plopping down on the machine and saying: “so what are you going to do about it”-is an asshole thing to do.

So I’m a douche for making a suggestion to somebody which I thought was legit, but its fine for you to ask to use a machine, get told no and use it anyway. Your main reasoning being that you are more developed.

I think the attitude of thinking you can do whatever the fuck you want in the gym because you are bigger is pretty disrespectful. You were small once. I bust my ass in the gym, but just because I haven’t been training for years and years doesn’t mean you have any more right then me over a piece of equipment. I have a feeling you don’t agree with this though, X.

Admittedly, what they were doing was pretty stupid but I guess they had to change their ENTIRE workout because of you. And they didn’t even have a choice.

Working in with people is standard gym procedure. This whole thread is kinda pointless.
