I’m seeing a lot of conflicting opinions online about this. Some recommend whole milk, others skim and still others say that no dairy should be present in a healthy diet.
What say you T-Nation??

I say, Whole for Mass gain phase, skim for cut; but to be honest i drink much milk at all.
I usually just eat the cheese with my omelette
Oh, you should also ask about Homogenized and Pasturised. Alot of Controversy there.
Cause the health industry needs sick people. You get sick people because of usually weak immune systems. Weak immune systems are usually from bad food choices.
Pasteurization is said to KILL EVIL GERMS that may infect you… We don’t want that now do we?
But why didn’t the cow herders and those who live almost exclusively from dairy (tribes in Africa) dropping dead or atleast having high levels of sickness?
So in effect, does pasteurization kill the germs which are actually good for you? and aid digestion? Its like Marijuana and alcohol. They made marijuana illegal cause they cant control the growth of it; they legalized alcohol cause you basically need brewers to brew it.
Its alll about the monney. oh crap I hi-jacked. sorry =P

dairy should be present in a healthy diet full stop…
Ideally, raw dairy from a source you know and trust will do wonders for your health - raw eggs, raw milk from pasture-fed cows, raw colustrum, milk and kefir. Anybody who tells you different is EVIL and you should beat them senseless with a whiffle bat!

Life expectancy today is somewhere in the neighbourhood of double that of African tribepeoples. Clearly this means we should eat like they eat
Depends on what you’re looking to do, but I always go with Calorie Countdown… the nutrition value is great, for one cup its 45 cals, 8g protein, 2 or 3g of carbs (good for low carb approach), no fat. The chocolate milk is good to make protein shakes as well.
Whole milk is excellent for gaining weight. Especially if you’ve been drinking only skim. I imagine for cutting it would be easy to over drink milk and blow past calorie goals.
Whole is better, unpasteurized is better, unhomogenized is tastier. http://www.ninaplanck.com/index.php?article=Whole_Milk
Whole milk is like drinking glue too thick for me. I was raised on skim/nonfat. I recently switched to 1%. That stuff has a lot more “body” without being too fatty
It all depends on if you can tolerate milk. We are not all the same.
Milk has a lot of carbs so if you cutting it may not be the best choice. If you are trying to add weight and you tolerate milk then go for it.
I second what zap said. If your cutting its probly not your best bet but for mass id be downing at least a litre of whole milk everyday!
whole milk all the way

a lot of people in north america have a very skewed perception of what a “healthy” diet is
to them “healthy” implies 75%+ carbs

Where in the world is a carb based diet not the norm? Perhaps some Pacific islands.
I have alwasy drank Skimmed, Whole Milk is like Glue I agree whoever above said it.
I remember someone saying (maybe an author on here) that removing the fat from milk impedes many other nutrients.
Can anyone confirm?
Vitamen’s A & D for starters

Pasteurization sure does a good enough job of that.
