Whole Flax Seeds vs. Oil

I’m wondering if the essential oils in whole flax seed are absorbed into the body less or more so than from flax oil. My understanding is that the oil needs too be refrigerated and can breakdown and turn rancid if not properly processed thereby rendering it more rancid and less useful.

Do any of you know if this is true or if I need to start seeing if I can find flax seeds in my shit?

Ground flax seeds should also be refrigerated (probably because the oil is now exposed). In fact, almost all oils, even if they don’t say so, will stay good longer if refrigerated. I don’t think that necessarily limits their usefulness. It’s simply the care that is necessary.

I should have stated that I don’t grind the seeds AT ALL. Am I wasting this stuff? I like the seeds whole to put in tuna fish to give it a crunchy texture.

If you eat the seeds whole they will pass right through you whole. Unless you chew them thoroughly ofcourse.

You need to chew them thoroughly or grind them just before use so the body can get the essential fatty acids from them.
