Who'da thunk it?

The worst of Atkins is far less bad than the worst high carb diet.

The worst low carb food is probably something hydrogenated, but you can just use butter which tastes better anyway.

-Zulu

zulu is absolutely right.

which is worse?

cheese wiz and pepperoni

or

donuts and pop tarts

and what health effects of a high carbohydrate diet are you actually assuming?

and morg/neil

yes, donuts and poptarts are the only way to eat a high carb diet, what, wait a minute, both are high in fat.

So what are you comparing the atkins to, a high carb, high fat diet? ah, the basic standard american diet (SAD) which is completely different to the USDA guidelines.

lessee…a donut has about 10g of fat. that is not very high.

one pop tart has about 3g of fat.

besides, if people are so retarded like you say, they won’t think foods like these have much fat anyway. they’re not greasy and oily.

but fine, let’s not use those.

which is better?

cheese whiz and sausages

or

white bread and rice krispies

the effects of a high carb diet are obvious, especially eating things like the USDA suggests…breads, breakfast cereals, etc.

that obvious thing is unsulin resistance. we know what this leads to.

insulin*

smacks forehead

low carb high fat diets also contribute (i dont like the word cause) to insulin resistnace

also as i understand it being a fatty regardless of the cause is the major risk factor of diabetes…???

Shows that neil/morg is a fucktard

Dunkin donut, apple crumb 10g fat = 40% calories from fat.

hows about a chocolate coconut cake donut, with 19g fat = 57% fat

maybe a jelly donut, maybe with 8g be low fat, nah, its 33% fat

maybe an old fashion cake donut at 19g of fat its as bad as the chocolate one.

Get the point?
that obvious thing is unsulin resistance. we know what this leads to.
Ah, the ever popular chicken or egg senario. maybe you dont understand that in the absolute vast majority of cases insulin resistnaces happens becasue of obesity, not the cause of…(check up on the inflammatory theory of diabetes, leptin IL6 all reduce insulin sensitivity.)

High fat diets cause a decrease in insulin sensitivity, a high carb diet can cause an INCREASE (hell, they found this out back in the 1930’s). Studies on sugar and insulin sensitivity in humans is far from unequivical, but as long as the food source is low GI, there is fuck all chance.

Now, the most common health concern from carbs is its effect on choelsterol and TAGs, but these changes are common on high GI diets, not low GI.

you still didn’t answer my question:

which is better?

cheese whiz and sausages

or

white bread and rice krispies

and a diet that causes insulin to be used constantly will INCREASE sensitivity, yet a diet that requires minimal insulin will DECREASE it? how on earth do you suggest this happens??? your “studies”?? constantly using something is not going to increase sensitivity.

how to you explain all the weight loss from low carb diets?? no, it’s not just water loss. are you saying these people are losing fat (and some have cured diabetes) by becomming insulin resistant and getting fat???

Neil, which is better

Neither, cjeez wiz is crud, as are sausages, or the otehr two. As a part of a whole diet, all can be fine.

and you obviously have no idea about determinants of insulin sensitivity, so Im not about to waste my time providing studies that you have no chance of understanding. If a diet (any macronutritent composition) reduces bodyweight, insulin sensitivity increases.

Weight loss on a keto diet is due to the same thing as any diet, a reduction in calories (providing a negative fat balance)

i may not understand the studies, but at least i can understand that you can lose weight on low carb diets eating more calories. i’ve actually done this, too, btw.

I have flown in the air by flapping my arms.

you cant refute this.

Fucktard

Wow, cycomike!

Issue #283, News and Reader Mail
Low Carb Diets (Gasp!) Work

Those who rail against low carb diets say the only reason they work is because you eat less calories while on them. “A calorie is a calorie” in other words.

Now, a new study coming out of Harvard found that people eating 300 extra calories a day on a low carb diet lost just as much weight as those on a low fat diet in the same amount if time. In fact, they lost a few pounds more than those on the regular diet, even though they were eating more.

Dr. Samuel Klein, the president of the American Association for the Study of Obesity, questions the results and calls them “hard to believe.”

There you have it, folks, the guy in charge of an obesity study organization still thinks a calorie is just a calorie, and 300 calories worth of tuna is the same as 300 calories worth of french fries.

No wonder North Americans are so damn fat with bozos like this in charge.
Discuss.

thanks, paul!!

Dont worry neil, you have shown yourself time and time again to be a complete fucking tard who cannot understand research.

heres a question about the ‘food intake’
How did you estimate calories on each diet? you realise most food composition data is estimates at best. How did you standardise exercise and other daily activity?
Did you take in the same quantity and quality of protein?
How did you analyse that you ate more calories, did it just look different so you assumed it was. Or did you allow for some form of analysis?

Because in reality, your little n=1 experiment is an utterly worthless anecdote.

And neil
thanks, paul!!
paul is obviously out of date, because this is the same paper I was discussing with Zulu above.
There is NO paper published, so other than various news items on it you cannot say ANYTHING from this.

In other words he provided nothing to discuss.

you call me stupid yet you think eating more carbs will increase insulin sensitivity, but eating less will decrease it.

and what’s with all the name calling? you take some of your little classes and all of a sudden you’re here calling me an idiot saying this and that won’t work when many many people have had it work. education is a dangerous thing for people like you.
