Who Says Powerlifters Have to Be Fat!

hey man. you have the best log on here next to maraudermeat in my mind!
i know you’re not a bodybuilder but i would be interested in hearing about how you eat. especially since you’re in college (i think) as i am too.

Thnks very much I appreciate that compliment a lot! as for my current diet…I am under eating horribly! especially right now. At the beginning of each school quarter I am usually pretty consistent with my eating schedule, Omelete with ham sausage and cheese in the morning and at night. Chicken noodles and vegetables from the rec center terriaki place for lunch, chicken burritos from the rec center mexican place for dinner with 2 or 3 shakes throughout the day along with another meal or two that vary depending on the day. But at the end of this quarter I was pretty much forced to go on a modified paeleo diet because the only things I could afford were beef jerky and trail mix… not an Ideal meal plan for powerlifting. That’s the reason that I have been slipping back under 200 lbs. Next quarter should be better and I will hopefully have a chance to establish a consistent macro base and keep it up

Kinda pertaining to that eating post, do you have any plans on moving up weight classes?

nope, I want that RAW american record 1841 total at 198 before changing anything but If I’m walking around at 210 a month out from a meet I could make the class easily. Being 199-204 in the offseason means that every time I come into a show I usually end up giving away a fair amount of BW even when I’m at the “top” of my weight class because I don’t have to do a real fluid dump or anything I just back off on meals for the week before. It would be nice to come into a show at 198 and not 195 like I usually do

Good deal. I’m looking at staying in the 181 class for a while. I don’t see a reason to jump up too much above that.

Yeah, some people are all about getting as big and strong as possible as fast as possible, I definitely want to be the strongest that I can possibly be at this class and move up when I have to because I’ve maxed out my capabilities as a 198

12/19/11 Squats 545x2 and bench 325x3… a good day!
Went in today with less than great expectations. Been taking care of my best friend and my little sister as they both got sick at the same time. Not to mention that this is the last week of this training cycle which equals the heaviest sets that I do in the off season. However, the session ended up going amazingly.

Squats
135x3
225x3
315x3
425x3x2
485x3x2
515x2x2
545x1
545x2

Close grip Bench
185x5
225x4
255x3x2
295x3x2
325x1x2
325x3

Oly stance squats
225x5
315x5
345x5
405x7

DB Flyes
45x10x3

Straight bar GMs
135x5x4

Left pleasantly surprised. I thought that Fridays squats combined with Saturdays gym total would have kept me from getting anything accomplished today but I smashed the planned workout and moved some pretty decent weight, I’ll take it. Military presses tomorrow, I’m actually starting to look forward to press day

Video of the epicosity:

just got a video made by my friend Caleb from this weekends ABC at Stan Efferding’s gym in Tacoma, I think it turned out frigging sick!!!

That last video was excellent, making me pumped to lift for sure!

Inspiring weights getting tossed around in here as usual, hoping the Christmas bloat treats you well!

Vid was sick. I need to get out there and train someday.

Yeah I think Caleb did an awesome job! it pumped me up too haha probably won’t be bloating much but I’ll be doing my best to get a regular eating plan going

Was in Portland a couple of weeks ago and drove through Tacoma to see my girl’s brother at the Lutheran college up there and I think I passed this [unless there’s more than one] on the way up to Seattle. If I had known this kind of shit went on inside, I’da stopped. Killer log dude.

Thanks brother, I’m sure you passed right by it, the gym is absolutely sick! stan outdid himself getting everything a raw powerlifter could want! haha

felt like poop today so kept it short and sweet did my work and got out… very unlike me haha

Military
45x5
95x5
115x3
140x3
160x3
180x5
125x10x5

Standing laterals
25x10x4

was happy with that and got out of there. Pretty sure the 180x5 constitutes some kind of PR for me probably had the strength for more but misgrooved on the 5th. Just another lesson for next time.

710 raw dead and 500x12 at 200lbs
Starting to feel a little warn down from this last week of heavy work but still managed to do some real work and reach a personal goal.

CGBP w/mini band
185x5
225x4
255x4
275x3x2
295x2x3
take off band
275x3x2
245x4
225x10

Deads
135x2
225x2
315x2
405x2
495x2
add belt
585x2
665x2 this was the goal for today
710x1 (I feel like 700 is officially an any day weight now feels good)
500x12 these were easy I just gassed quickly from my lack of rep wok in the last 6 months

Ab rollouts
10x6

single leg reverse hypers
10x4

single leg hamstring curls
10x4

All in all a pretty great workout. Haven’t done any band work with my presses for months so it was nice to change that up and then I was happy with the pulls. I didn’t hit the 710 perfectly but I was still able to grind it out which to me means that I can hit it even if I’m not feeling great. Especially considering that it’s the the second time that I’ve hit 7 in the same week I’ll take it

haha getting it in … impressive as always
