Who Says Powerlifters Have to Be Fat!

Been too busy to keep up with my videos for the last 2 weeks of school due to the craziest finals schedule I’ve ever had. Finally getting caught up now that I’m on break, this is my group of workouts the week before finals, my last week without a belt and no feet on the bench.

Continuing to catch up
I missed squatting in my belt so much that I didn’t even know it until it was back! this session went even better than Mondays did even surprised myself.

Close grip Bench
185x5
225x4
255x3x2
295x3x5 (every set got better)

Squats
135x3
225x3
315x4
365x4
425x3x2
485x3x3
515x5 (pretty sure that’s a PR for legit squats without wraps)

Bench
205x5
225x5
255x4x5

Cable flyes
10x4

Super stoked to finally hit a real PR again on squats the last rep was a gut buster but I earned it. Now back home to rest and enjoy the holidays

Old school… Literally… squatted at my old highschool today went really well!

Squats
135x3
245x3
335x3
425x3x2
485x3x5

Close grip Bench
185x5
225x4
255x3x2
295x3x2
305x2x3
305x4 (had more but mis-grooved 4th rep)

Close stance/oly squats
245x3
335x3
425x6

GHR
10x4
Reverse hyper
10x4

Successful day at my Alma mater camera unfortunately died after my first set of squats, need to get a new battery pack but it may take awhile… still have some video abilities but the battery drains really fast, jsut have to save the filming for the big sets from here on out

todays session was fast and solid, really digging on the 5/3/1 sets for my shoulder day and I can definitely say that I’m getting stronger as a result.

Standing military press
95x5x2
115x5
135x5
150x5
170x6 (got a ground out 5 last time and these 6 were much smoother)
125x10x5 (5 more lbs than last week and still went unbroken booyah!

seated laterals
25x10x4

Plate raises
45x10x4

Single arm DB Curl to press 40x8x3

BB curl
45x10
65x10
85x10x2

Called it good there, honestly the shoulder presses would be a good workout on their own, those sets of 10 are brutal, Hats off to you BBrs who live in that 8-12 range I salute you!

Drugged out deadlifting!
been having some weird pain in my right leg since saturday morning. not the muscle but the skin, It is like an invisible rash that doesn’t itch but feels like I have a lot of little cuts and scratches all over and it sucks, been waking me up at night so I haven’t been getting good rest and when I am awake it constantly hurts.

Kind of freaked me out so I went to my Dr. this morning and got it checked out, he said that he wasn’t sure what it is but strongly suspects some sort of allergic reaction. He prescribed me this antihistamine called Zyrtec. Now one of the side effects of any antihistamine is drowsiness, now anyone who knows me knows that I don’t like to make excuses especially when it concerns lifting so I waited until the drowsiness wore off enough that I could safely drive to the gym for deadlifts… possibly not my greatest idea haha

Deads
135x3
225x3
315x3
405x3
495x3x2
add belt
585x3x5 (these were much harder than they should have been mostly because I was border line falling asleep in between sets made for an interesting workout dynamic)

Close grip Bench
185x5
225x5
255x4
275x3x2
295x2x3 (paused every rep)
275x3x2
255x4
235x5
225x10

DB Flyes
10x5

Called it good there I was getting straight up loopy by the end of the session. I didn’t even think to film any of the session I was just focused on staying awake the whole time. I hope this pain clears up soon so I don’t end up having any more of these goofed up sessions

New video! Finally finished up my “You suck total”
Epic video ahead click if you dare!

Thanks brother! the snatches are just a fun thing that I throw in when I’m bored just have to be careful not to let go halfway up haha. Glad you like the pulls and the music setting I spent a fair amount of time trying to get everything to flow right.

FUARK!
motivational music combined with lifting so good man.

btw How did you know that you were suited to deadlifting sumo rather than conventional? Did you do a lot of trial and error or did one day it just click?

Glad you like it, and as for the stance question I definitely have played around with both plenty but I really feel like I’m just built for sumo pulls. Here’s a response I wrote awhile back when someone asked me about my thoughts on the difference between the two stances
“When comparing sumo to conventional pulls the normal responses I give are based off of individual bio mechanics. Usually (and I use that word sparingly because there are exceptions to every generality you can make) a shorter stouter athlete will get more from a conventional pull because they are more built to move that way. the conventional dead recruits more lower back strength and the stick point is most commonly at the top or lockout position. Sumo stance is usually more beneficial to a taller lankier athlete who may have a harder time getting the bar past their knees with a conventional pull. The sumo pull relies much more heavily on hip flexibility and strength and the stick point is usually right there off the floor. both have their benefits and drawbacks so I always recommend everyone pull both styles to cancel each lifts weaknesses, but you should always focus on your most natural style for me sumo for Andy Bolton and Beni Magnussen conventional.”

I hope that answers your question without being to overzealous haha

Left some in the tank since I’ll be deadlifting at the ABC tomorrow morning in Tacoma, pretty happy with how everything went down.

Video of my finals week training, slowly but steadily getting caught back up on the vids

12/17/11 Tacoma ABC 705 lb deadlift? sure why not!
had an awesome time at the Tacoma ABC today. Saw a lot of the local animals and moved some heavy weights didn’t have much of a plan today, but sometimes making it up as you go can really work well for you.

Deads
135x4
225x3
315x2
405x2
495x2
585x1
675x1
705x1 (felt like I might have been good for a 2nd if I hadn’t squatted the night before)

SLDs (standing on a 3" deficit)
no belt
315x3
405x3
495x6

Pullups and general gymnastic party tricks
BW x whatever

CGBP (flat footed w/ pause)
185x5
225x4
255x3
275x1
295x1
315x1
335x1

Squats (figured I might as well post a gym total for the day)
225x2
315x1
405x1
495x1
545x1 (happy with that called it a day)

So I went in to today anticipating tying to hit my first decent deadlift since worlds and happened to have a pretty exceptional raw… gym… reverse total of 1585… I guess that’s what it ended up being. Pretty stoked about the pull especially and I think with how crappy I felt going into this workout that every number I hit today I should be able to hit on a good bar any day no matter how unprepared I feel.

here’s my video for the last week of training
good to be home but my camera hates me did the most I could with the footage I had

Finally caught up on videos!
Here is my video recap of today’s ABC in Tacoma

They used to make up most of my DL accessory work great fro building grip strength, lower back/ hamstrings and all around awesomness

hey man. you have the best log on here next to maraudermeat in my mind!
i know you’re not a bodybuilder but i would be interested in hearing about how you eat. especially since you’re in college (i think) as i am too.
thanksman
