Who Says Powerlifters Have to Be Fat!

^^^^^^ thanks to all of you guys! I always wondered what it would take to get on there. Turns out it was just a 1746 raw total at 198, why didn’t I think of that before? haha Definitely gonna try to make something noteworthy happen at worlds too and then I get to start my next training cycle, for which I am incredibly excited. I already have the first 13 weeks planned out and I have been talking shop with my training partners. I have decided on what my next set of goals are going to be as well… It’s going to be epic…[/quote]
Thats awesome ben, still planning on a sheiko based routine? Or going for something totally different?

Congrats Ben! Making it on PL watch is no small feat. You’ve shown that it’s amazing what you can achieve when you put in the time and hard work. You deserve all the success that comes your way.

definitely stiking with the mantra if it aint broke  Boris has done well for me this last cycle and I attribute much of my recent success to the work that it has pushed me to… I don’t know how many times I would have stopped the workout because I felt tired or like I just didn’t have it that day but I managed to finish anyway and my mentality with sheiko is that if you survive then you will thrive. Basic plan is to run 6 week training blocks with specific goals at the end of each one. then test for those goals on week 7 and use the rest of it it as a sort of deload week. Then change some things around and go again. For example my first 6 week block will be no belt for squats or deads, and feet up for all my bench presses. I have a set of goals I want to hit like this on week 7 then I’ll deload the rest of that week and On the next cycle add a belt for squats and possibly deads and put my feet back on the ground for bench. I’m still going to make final sets max reps on exercises because I love that 5/3/1 feel of trying to hit a PR every session. Will probably be throwing in 1 extra day as a supplementary day where I’ll be hitting a BB style shoulder workout to try to help my weak point aka my bench improve. I’m gonna need a big bench to hit my real goal next year…

Thanks brother, I am blessed with some great opportunities and it’s always a trip to be recognized for living your dream. all though I have a feeling that my next featured article on that site will be a much bigger deal

Hey Ben, I’m looking at trying some Sheiko programs for a while. Which one would you recommend for someone who’s never tried Sheiko-style? I’m used to pretty high frequency but not high volume.

Hey, another Sheiko fan! Hi, Ben! Really good numbers at your meet, and a great physique to boot!

I’ve started Sheiko this summer and was really impressed by it. Can’t come close to your numbers, but it definitely toughens you up.

Well I will tell you what I have heard. Generally it is advised that beginners to the sheiko style should start with program #29 and give accurate (as in not estimated) 1 rep maxes. The volume can be a kick in the pants so 29 is more geared to adjusting to the shift in workload. I did not do this program for myself because I am impulsive and impatient, and I jumped right into a master of sport 4 day a week program, and had very rough time adjusting, but phenomenal results.

Moral of the story? 29 would be the smart way to go but you should decide for you which looks the best. My mentality going through these programs is that if you are finishing the workouts, the body will either adapt or break… It will most likely adapt because that’s how resilient it is, but the first 2 weeks are usually pretty awful feeling…

Now that I use it I can’t imagine ever switching to anything else. I absolutely love it the intensity and mental focus that it takes just to finish

Congratulations on making powerlifting watch ben. Goodjob man.

and i think there will definitely be a world record with your name on it soon ( dont know if youve already got world records lol).

Haha thank you, I have a few, but they’re in the teen divisions. Planning on hitting some junior and open ones in the next year

Damn that’s awesome man, haven’t popped in here in a while, definitely well deserved like was said

As for the advice you gave me, I think as of now sheiko isn’t the routine for me. So I think what i will do is continue with what I’m doing, since i do seem like i am making gains. However, I do want to try it sometime in the near future, most likely a couple months after surgery when I’m back to where i was (or hopefully ahead of it) before-surgery

You have to do what’s right for you, I agree and respect that thought process  work hard and good luck through the recovery process!

Mmat, Sheiko is really weird. You would think the volume would bury you, but it doesn’t . Several times I went through a 2 hr workout and stopped not because I was tired but because the gym was closing. Now I can’t even imagine a workout that doesn’t keep going. Oh yeah, and my lifts started going up.

Ben’s right, the 29 is the starting program. Just test your maxes first. It’s a 4 week cycle. Be sure to eat plenty and get lots of sleep. You can’t skimp on recovery.

Most important thing to remember about sheiko! IMO ^^^^^^^^

Just discovered your log…
Amazing lifts!!

Great inspiration for my deadlift training  Especially when we have the same bw. I’m really far from your numbers, but still it’s great to watch your videos

Keep up the good work mate!

I appreciate the insight. I’m considering it, but with my current commitments I don’t think I’d do Sheiko full justice. I have to PT 5 days a week with my unit and I’m taking 18 hours, so recovery is not at full capacity. I don’t want to try it unless I can give it 100%.

I would say that’s a good call, this style of training is sort of all consuming haha and when you do it you wanna do it right or else you’d just run yourself into the ground with nothing to show for it. I admire the patience brother, it really is a virtue. keep doing your thing brother Boris will still be around to beat on ya at a later time

2 Weeks out from the WABDL Worlds I threw my suit back on to get some more work in a nd feel more comfortable. Right now I still prefer pulling RAW, but I’ll be used to it when the time comes. I decided to hit a heavy double today and then went up a little further

Deads (no belt)
265x1
355x2
445x2
535x1
625x1
add suit and belt
715x2
755xmiss (really should have had it, just couldn’t get my hips through on the lockout)

Bench (close grip,feet up)
185x6
215x6
235x6x5

Double pause deads (aka the bane of my existence)
225x3
315x3
405x3
495x3
545x3x5 (no belt on all sets)

Double pause bench (no arch and no fun)
185x8x4

GHR
10x4
Back extensions
10x4
dip leg raises
10x3
ab rollouts
10x3

Called it a day and went to get some food. I am really struggling to work on my heavy dealifts without the use of a decent deadlift bar this week I’ll hit some rep work in the suit on my first deadlift day and then I’ll be heading to my boy Justin Randals gym in Lynwood on Saturday to hit my last big session 1 week out on a real deadlift bar. I’m excited to get this meet finished up so I can turn my focus to my next set of goals which are pretty lofty and are already taking up a lot of my attention… But got to get worlds out of the way first. 2 weeks and counting.

Those paused sets looked brutal, but effective I’m sure!
