Who NEVER Wears A Weightlifting Belt??

I had some guy comment today that I should be wearing a belt on about rep 20 of a 30 rep set of squats. Kind of annoying.

EXCELLENT!!! T-Nats everywhere, follow this fine example!

After you were done, you should of swung the bar around and hit him in the head. I hate when people try to talk to me when I’m in the middle of a set. Would someone run up to a marathon runner while he is running and start a conversation with him??

There’s a skinny fucker at my gym with legs thinner than my arms who wears a belt for EVERYTHING from curls to lunges to crunches. Fabulous comic relief.

You guys are killing me. Somehow you’re Billy Badasses for not using a belt. hahahaha. If you use it correctly (just for heavier singles, doubles or triples over a significant percentage of your 1RM), you won’t get a “weak core”. I’d really like to know how people who use belts to squat 600, 700, 800lbs, etc. have a “weak core”. Most of you guys could put a belt on and still not unrack extremely heavy weight, let alone stand underneath it.

As long as you’re not a tard and wearing it while doing lateral raises, there is no problem.

Again, my core didn’t really start getting strong until I learned to use a belt-not super tight!, 2 fingers loose and then when you flex your abs, tight!

Agreed Rick. If you train correctly, whether you use a belt or not shouldn't matter. not using one is just holding you back.

I put one on at app 300 lbs in squats and deadlifts. Using one has not weakened my back or lead to more injuries. My injuries, and there have been plenty have happened more due to a buildup of myofascial restrictions as opposed to a " Weak" core.

If you lift heavy, use a belt. Not wearing one does not make you “bad” or more pure. I would hazard a guess that most here do not have a clue on how to use one or why.

Never used a belt in my life, since I don’t own one and my gym doesn’t keep spares. 17 years old, 146 lb here. SLDL’s are 245 for reps.

im 21, 6’ 3" 214lbs. max dead- 505. max squat- 355 below parallel ( hip below knee )

never used a belt or straps. lots of chalk tho

I use belt for the working sets of my Squats and Dl’s (usually 1-3 reps). All warm up sets are done without a belt and all accessory work a belt is just not necessary or even appropriate.

Man. Almost 6 years old? Are you Prof X under another name?

Never use a belt, and won’t go back.

Of course you lift more WITH a belt.

“I can squat 350 without a belt.” Yeah, so can many females. The better question is how many people don’t use a belt and can lift REAL weight (squat 500+, deadlift 500+) My guess is not many. Anybody can lift less than 300 lbs. without a belt. Those are called warmups.

Holy thread bump!

It’s funny how it’s usually about minor stuff too.

Yep, wear a belt snd lift heavy stuff. Your core doesn’t give a shit either way.

The name of this thread should be “Who will NEVER squat 700lbs?”

+1. Glad a ridiculously strong guy said it too.

Normally agree with most you say STB, but your logic is flawed there, tens of thousands of people wear belts and will never squat 700lbs either! I don’t think wearing a belt or not is the main determining factor for who goes on to do that.

I trained for a couple of years beltless, then decided I needed one. First rep on front squats with the belt I had a red hot stabbing pain in my lower abdomen. It scared the life out of me, thought I’d torn something, so I threw the belt in the corner and have trained beltless ever since.

I think my core has got to be stronger as a result.

And did you ever think you just could have strained something either way. You can only lift so much beltless.

But the funny thing is that any strong guy I know uses one. And the other funny thing is they are still pretty strong beltless.
