Who Here is in the Military?

Doesn’t matter what branch, who here is in?

I’ll be joining the Navy soon, then hopefully going SEAL.

What about you guys?

I just signed up. I ship out in August to train to be a medic in the Army Rangers. Have fun at the meps.

When I was 18 on my way to MEPS my dad told me that they did the thumb up the ass prostate exam. I got all worried and asked my recruiter if that was true. He looked at me and said, “Griff, as long as he’s got only one hand on your hips you’ll be all right. If you have two hands on your hips you should start to get a little worried.”

Suffice it to say, he wasn’t very helpful. Good luck to you.

Nice. Does the Rangers work the same way as SEALs? You join the branch, and then you hopefully become special forces?

I am yet to sign up, as I’m 17 right now, with my 18th in December. What’s pretty ironic is that my b-day is on Dec. 7th, lol.

In the Army, they reserved my place in the schools so when I signed up I already had my training laid out to go into Special Ops. So yeah, you basically sign up for the branch and then they throw you into the schools.

You can still sign up if you are 17, I think you just have to be 18 by the time you go to basic, kind of like voting. Start talking to recruiters from different branches now if you really think you want to do it.

You can, with parental consent, and she wouldn’t consent.
I’m going to my local recruiter tomorrow to get basic starting discussions in.

Being special forces really takes a certain type of person, good luck but its really not for many.

Good luck! You will love being a medic. Of course I’m a little biased…

This We’ll Defend!

I’m a combat engineer myself. Good luck and I’ll see you in the Sandbox.

They’re giving medics Ranger contracts nowadays? Cool. Good luck. And BTW you know about the whole pipeline thing right? Make you know what’s expected of you and what will derail you. Your training as a medic is guaranteed - you only get a slot reserved for Airborne, and if you make it through that, RIP. For some reason a lot of my RIP class couldn’t swim. Oops.

Pipeline thing? This is new to me. Any suggestions for how to prepare for Ranger school would be greatly appriciated.

This is a pearl of wisdom for those looking to join. If you do not have the strength of charecter to say no. Then you should not join sf. Otherwise you will find yourself doing things you never would have done if not surrounded by others doing the same. If you have not got the gumption to say no in that situation then you are nothing more than a sheep and will inevitably find yourself in trouble.

I have too many stories of guys going with the crowd and doing things they regretted. I hope your mind is as strong as your body is going to be.

I am currently out for 2 years do to some medical reasons, Was infantry, passed basic but ended up being medically suspended/discharged in the AIT part.

I will be going back in in 2 years as either supply or will be going into the Air force, havn’t decided yet.

If you’re going in as supply I highly suggest going as Supply in the USAF.

Gentlemen, let’s give some of these schools the honor they deserve…

Nobody signs up to be Ranger, SEAL, or any type of Spec Ops. You train, you suffer, and with enough integrity, strenght, and intelligence, you might make it.

That is what I was thinking. The only problem is USAF is not taking prior service right now, but when my 2 year limit is up hopefully they will, if not I will see If I can just go in and do there basic.

Very true but they’re both teenagers, they’re not going to listen.

But they will give the same advice themselves in a year or two.

When was the last time you talked to a recruiter? FY08 is a much more open year in the AF than FY07 was because the retention/loss goals are on schedule.

I’m 22, and when they were pulling my job at the meps they asked if I wanted to go to Ranger school, I said yes because I wanted to go as far as I could. Any constructive advice is appriciated.
