Who Doesn't Put Their Weights Away?

And when you get to a machine that has 8 45lb plates on each side, and you would like to start out with 2-3 on each side, what do you do?

I take off as many as I need to and say, “thank you, brother. Now I don’t have to go searching all over the gym for those same plates as they are right here”.

What sucks is needing even more plates than that but realizing that all of the 45’s are now spread out all over the gym because so many of the people there are now so much weaker than serious trainers 10 years ago that some of the gyms are cutting back on the numbers of 45lbs plates.

The only way this should even be an issue is if we are discussing small women or people so weak that they can’t lift 45lbs.
I’m sure you realize most of the people working on the machine after you are most likely a lot weaker than you.

What if you’re doing some re-hab work and won’t be going heavy the whole day on that machine?

Why would I do that when I can wait until I get done with everything?

I don’t know, maybe the same reason you might want someone to strip a piece of equipment you would like to use to warm up with after they’re done with it and moved on to something else?

I didn’t know every piece of equipment you use is off limits for other people to use until you’re done with your whole workout, unless they choose to clean up after you first.

Would it be different if you’re on your next exercise and you see someone who’s obviously a lot weaker than you standing next to the machine looking around to see if someone’s still using it?

Who knows, they might think the guy at the water fountain, in the bathroom or wherever is still using it.
When I see a significant amount of weight on a machine, I assume someone’s still using it and I start to ask around.
Gee, I do believe I have written about 4 times in this thread that I DO NOT TRAIN AT PEAK TIMES. What do you think that means? If I actually had a problem with people waiting on machines after me, then you just might have a point. I don’t know how things work where you are, but most people don’t seem to rush up to guys over 250lbs to work in with them or to rush them off of a machine. I have simply never experienced this and if such a thing did occur, I would help whoever it is remove plates from the machine.

What the hell is the big deal?

I can see why you would leave some plates on the HS machines/leg press if the machine doesn’t have the pegs on the side to hold the extra plates, but if the machine has the pegs to put the extra plates not in use on it then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t unload it since you don’t even have to walk around to put the weights back (although if it’s an off peak time I don’t see any issue as long as you do unload it).

Also if I see some plates on a machine but no one on it and I want to use it then I do - no questions asked.

Today I went to do some dumbbell presses. Could not find the 110’s until I realized they were placed in one of the places where the 40’s should be. Now I didn’t really care but it still pissed me off because the people who work at the gym usually have to sort them out. This time it was two girls working there and it’d be stupid if they had to move the dumbbells and somehow injured themselves. People have to be considerate. It’s not even like the place for the 110’s was that far off. It was literally the rack below and a foot to the right.

I am normally slightly more slob than neat-freak. But at the gym I compulsively rerack weights on the power rack. I tend to steal what is needed from the Smith Machine to complete pairs of plates.

putting your weights away is just common knowledge and decency. If you don’t, your a dick.

Not putting away weights is the reason why my gym no longer has the 100 lb plates. Some people were leaving them on the leg press and when a female member complained about it, the gym just took it away.

I force choked everyone at my gym that doesn’t put their weights away and now I have the gym all to myself…

…since I have the gym to myself, I leave my shit everywhere now. Putting the weights away, even with the force, is a pain in the ass.

My school gym has two people managing the small space… I once jumped off an machine and ran to get a drink of water (no drinks allowed ffs) and a staff member was walking toward my machine to wipe it down because I hadnt.I like my school gym but it has no bars or squat rack…

My previous gym had signs all over… put your weights away or we will revoke your membership period.

Here’s a video I made a few months back of the gym i go to in Taiwan. Now you should understand that 95% of the guys here do shitty curls and horrible bench press and that’s it. It is the silliest gym I’ve ever been to. So when I show the bench with 275 on it and say no guy was really benching that…I mean I’ve seen many, many guys in Taiwan do really short-range (as in 2 inches) bench with a buddy helping them every rep. You’ll see the E-Z Curl with about 150lbs on it…which I know some of us could curl…but I don’t think anyone here is doing it, other than turning the movement into some weird reverse Good Morning. I made some other videos of guys at my gym and you’ll see what I mean.

And don’t get me started on the music! Shit it’s even louder in person!

Good Lord Man! You win. That place looks like a fucking explosion happened in there.

I read an article recently that in Russia in serious gyms and especially in prison leaving loaded bars in the middle of the gym space or even stepping over a bar on the floor while someone is using it but resting, is seen as a genuine mark of disrespect and can sometimes result in beatdowns.

Beats a lunk alarm.

I haven’t read through the responses but this business drives me nuts. I often have to walk all around the free weights area to find my dumbbells because they’re scattered everywhere.

Still, If my gym would better label the racks so people could see clearly where everything goes (even I have trouble figuring it out, sometimes, because of WHERE the labels are), more people would probably make an effort.

Well, okay, no they wouldn’t… but I would put them back where they actually go instead of just approximating where I know they belong.

I think I love your wife jehovas.

sometimes putting all you’re plates away is stupid, i work at a gym (part time job, while i do school) and i today for example i unload a flatbench HS machine, because someone left there plates on it, ( i have to unload it, its my job) 5 minutes later a guy puts the identical amount of plates on + more weight, … stupid feminist dyke runs my gym, and incase she reads this, … fuck you

your profile views just sky-rocketed

Edit: Damn! videos and pictures aren’t available right now. Never mind.

When people don’t put their weights away, I always confront them and make them put their weights away.

No point in putting weights away. Dumbells should be re-racked…but to move around plates is just plain stupid. If everybody just agreed not to do it…then the total amount of wasted plate moving would be reduced.

That sucks, but leaving 100-pound plates on there is really irritating. There are people who can’t lift them off the machine.

Bullshit. Nobody weighs 120lbs.

I’ll put dumbells as close to their original position on the rack that I can. All the plates near the squat racks never get racked back onto the holders though, and to be honest, I kinda prefer the messy pile of plates leaning up against the rack.
