I agree with you.
I think it puts things in better perspective.
I am the daughter of a Viet Nam vet that was in Lebanon, the Bay of Pigs,3 tours of Viet Nam, Lebanon and special assignment to South America. I absolutely know he is an American hero. At least to me.
fuck Whitney the drug addict.

And there are people who have achieved much more than your mother/father.
Can I say screw your parents, why should we care about what they achieved because others have done more?
Caring about one doesn’t preclude you from caring about the other.
It’s the “FUCK HER” comments that are strange. What the hell did this woman do to any of you?
Was she even on drugs when she died?
Honestly, unless YOU PERSONALLY just got a limb blown off in combat, please save us the “we can’t mourn celebs because soldiers died” routine. It comes off about as authentic as those fake dog tags people wear just for fashion.
But what if she was clean and the after effects took her life? what if a drug addict who no longer did drugs developed a deadly sickness years after they became sober? Would you still say that? Are we not to be forgiven for trying to change?

Well said, Simpy.

Especially, if addiction runs in your family like mine does.
Some DO find clarity to actually quit and stay clean. A few have not.
Simp has Avi ADD, again.
to Prof X, as of 7pm Westcoasttime. Yes, appearently there was a good amount of alcohol involved.
To be clear: I am a born again pagan so redemption for alcohol and drug abuse is NOT part of my vocabulary.
Those who’s musical talents will be missed the most by yours truly:
MILES DAVIS - Frank Zappa and Freddie Mercury. Gladly slit the throat of Lady bla bla to have Freddie back.
feel free to jump my shit now. . . . .
I was pretty sad when Ronnie James Dio died.
Why couldn’t it have been Phil Collins instead?
lol
x 2 on the RJ Dio. Kindered spirits there Dwarf ?
to further the Prof X “why the Fuck Her” attitude. Maybe it is the fact that from the outside it looked like her and many others just have so much to live for. No worries over MONEY, Food, clothing and shelter. Things that about 40 million americans are now SO worried about because of the economy.
She had what we wish we could have a 10th of and wasted it and her life by abusing her life…
Obama is in town, and he is staying at the same hotel that Whitney died in. Weird ?

You’re right. She had talent and couldn’t handle the celebrity that came with it.
Many people can’t go from obscurity into overnight celebrity easily. It’s really not something I would wish on anyone.

I was talking out of my ass. My apologies.
Dad passed away in September last year and today was my parent’s 48th.
They would not be happy.
Also, … for me… it is just a freaking big shame.
Sorry, … again.

Who knows what experiences or pain she was trying to escape through drug and alcohol abuse. No matter how talented or rich a person is we all struggle with insecurities and emotional pain. Nobody truly knows what the world looks like through someone else’s eyes.
And again on the whole soldier and celebrities crap, THERE IS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY FOR VETERANS AND NUMEROUS MONUMENTS IN THEIR REMEMBERANCE THEY ARE FULLY RECOGNIZED AND APPRECIATED IN OUR SOCIETY, so go easy on citizens that pass, famous or not.

I figured something had made you sad, you are normally one of the nicest people on this site and that remark did not seem like you. Sorry to hear of your loss. Don’t be too hard on yourself. An off remark can happen to the best of us. Be well.

He’s made a decision. There’s nothing you can do about it.
Deal with it.
From what I found, Whitney Houston has contributed at least on a financial level to:
Caudwell Children
Celebrity Fight Night Foundation
Children’s Defense Fund
Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center
Red Cross
United Negro College Fund
United Service Organization
Whatever her reason’s for donating only she will know.
But as far as lowering the flag at half staff I personally do not think that it is an honor she should have received. My opinion, aside from my Military affiliation, is that the half staff should be for those who served in military or civilians who were civil servants (died in a selfless act or contributed on a grand scale) or those who have made an significant macro impact on society for the betterment of all. Again, just my humble opinion.
Being in the military does not entitle me to half staff when I die. Sure, I served, I been to war and came back alive…Thank God! but I also volunteered and I remain in service to this country on my free will. When it is my time, I know I will be givin three volleys of shots fired (not to be confused with a 21 Gun salute) in honor of being a deceased veteran by a Military Honor Guard…Nothing more, nothing less.
I am sure she has done good and touched lives of many people through music and charitable donations. What she did on her personal time is her business.

I think it is pretty safe to say that it is likely she helped more people in need directly than any of the people telling her to “fuck off” in death who are posting in this thread.
But she did drugs…so that makes her life meaningless and means she didn’t affect anyone positively.
I am wondering why anyone cares that they lower the flag? I may agree that I would expect that for those with even greater social impact…but that’s just my opinion…and I don’t feel anything in me telling me to yell out, “FUCK HER” for no reason now that she’s dead.
What makes people act that way?
Do they think it looks cool?
Just wanted to drop in and see if anyone gave a shit yet?

So, that means it’s not worth commenting on if it’s generally regarded to be a really really bad decision? Go fuck yourself. There, I made a decision to say that. Deal with it.
