Almost bought this instead of the Four Roses. Will give this a go next time.
Which one? Four Roses has been on my list for a while. I’ll probably pick up a small batch bottle to start with one of these days.
Bought and drank the small batch bottle over the last couple weeks. It was good, but there’s better out there. My initial thoughts were it felt much creamier than I’m used to and lacked the strong oak flavors I like. What really stood out after I drank it for a while was how spicy it was.

Any suggestions for ryes?

I’ve had the Russell’s Reserve 6y and I remember liking it (bottle’s gone, so I can’t retaste)
I have a bottle of Sazerac, and I find it ‘ok’, not great, but drinkable
I also have a bottle of Old Overholt, after reading somewhere that it was cheap but underappreciated, but after tasting it… it just tastes cheap. Definitely mixable though.

But my tastes seem to change every time I drink these. I’ll give them another taste tonight.

Any suggestions for the next bottle?

I also like Bulliet (pronounced bullet) and it’s moderately priced. Their 10 year and rye are just ok so stick with the regular

Just bought a bottle of this tonight and I’m not too impressed. The flavor seems like it could be good but this isn’t the ‘kick’ I look for as there is more burn than flavor. I might give the 10 year a try some time as I think this is just too young.

I’ve only had a couple ryes and liked both of them. Bulliet Rye was good and less than $30 IIRC. I just cracked a bottle of Whistle Pig last week and it’s better than Bulliet, but $60/bottle if you can find it.

x2 on the Whistle Pig. I love that stuff.

I also like the ~135 proof Sazerac rye.
Hm. What is that? I see the regular 90 proof Sazerac, and the Sazerac 18 year… which is also 90 proof.

There’s a Thomas Handy 127ish proof one though. Is that the one?

They’re all made by, or at least sold by Buffalo Trace.

My store had 4 bottles of Bookers. Thinking of getting one. Always wanted to try a higher octane whiskey. Afterall, it is Push’s favorite and that guy knows his whiskey. Really enjoyin my JWB. I tend to drink alot more during the holidays. Wish Santa would bring me a case of Talisker because so far it is without a doubt my favorite. Just the perfect amount of smoke/peat. It is 65.00 US here though. I don’t suppose anybody knows anything comparable at half the price LOL. BTW I can taste/smell the Talisker in JWB. Happy Thanksgiving to all and wherever you have Thanksgiving I hope they have Whiskey/ Whisky!!!

I had Booker’s for the 1st time about a week ago. True craftsmanship goes into that stuff.
Yeah, I’d have to say it’s my favorite.
If I were rich Booker’s would be all I’d buy till I die.

Drinking some Glenmorangie 10. Really like the taste very similar to Glenlivett…something seems more complex about it though. Yeah it’s really good. It was on sale for 35 US at my store it was originally 42. I thought that was a decent deal for around here anyway. I figure Woodford cost about this much and I like Scotch better so WTH??

Heres the bottle I’m talking about
Also, now that I’ve had a few drams I can honestly say that I prefer this over Glenlivet by a little bit. Tastes like really ripe oranges and almonds just wonderful!!

Slowly but surely you are getting hooked on single malt. That is a custom that will make the future interesting. Enjoy the journey as there are many distillery’s with the flavors within the new bottling’s changing year after year.

Do not know if you consume your drams neat or add some water to, in some cases, enhance the flavors. A suggestion would be to try a dram both ways and experience the difference. Usually the addition of water to a single malt less than 18 years old will enhance the flavors. Enjoy.

Yea finding this out.

Friend of mine brought me a 18 year Glenlivet as a housewarming.

Glenlivet is still my favorite so far.

Picked up a bottle of 21 year old Glenfiddich for a friend’s birthday last weekend. I don’t usually like Glenfiddich; I find it a bit watery. This, however, was fantastic.

I bought this based on your review. Tastes great.

I always wanted to try it after I read somewhere that it’s the number 1 selling Scotch in Scotland. I think that is an impressive stat. They still have a bunch on sale where I live. Tempted to go buy a few bottles of it. I really like it and for 35.00 not a bad price for a single malt.

Glenmorangie is the malt that made me fall in love with whiskey in general.

Now a-days I struggle to enjoy it because of how weak a taste it has.

I think Glenmorangie was the first whiskey I ever tried all because it was the one Connor Macleod orders at a bar in the classic movie Highlander.
