Whiskey II

I bet! Good bang for your buck.

I’m often wary of the higher % whiskies and beers but it’s always a treat when the alcohol doesn’t overpower the flavours. Dangerous though!

Meeting three Vietnam combat friends at Molly Goodhead’s Oyster Bar and Saloon for a late lunch. And, as a birthday celebration, the four of us will consume a 25 year-old litre of “The Macallan” scottish single malt, a favorite “water of life” to rejuvenate the spirits. That means I will get to slowly consume four to five drams of this golden fluid, saluting my friend with each drop.

That sounds excellent. I polished off my bottle of 21 year old Macallan just a few days ago.

I’m not a huge Scotch guy, but damn that stuff is good.

For the Texas people:

Has anybody ever had Johnny Drum? And if so, how was it?

I’ve had it a few times. Have a friend that loves it.

I think that the green label is a bit harsh and didn’t care for it.

However, the Private Stock is dangerously smooth. It doesn’t taste like a 101 proof whiskey. Depending on the price, it might be worth getting.

I had a good friend of mine, surprise me by flying out this past weekend for my birthday. We had some good scotch and smoked cigars. He got me a bottle of JW Blue Label. Definitely enjoyed sipping on it, before switching to MaCallan 12.

My diet went to shit and I am really hung over this morning, but it was worth it.

Im trying the Johnny Drum. It’s not bad. A little woody for my taste but a decent whiskey all in all.
Cool, thanks. I’ll be opening the bottle this weekend with some friends.

Hey, High West whiskey is pretty good stuff. Some of the best I’ve had in a few instances. But don’t fool yourself, the whiskey comes from Indiana.
I was surprised to see how many brands are distilled at MGPI…
Lawrenceburg, IN. Formerly Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana (LDI) and before that owned by the now dissolved Seagram’s company, this large distillery near the Kentucky border makes bourbon, rye, corn, wheat and malt whiskeys as well as gin and neutral spirits. While they don’t market any of their own whiskey, the distillery makes whiskey for a growing number of other labels. It’s hard to always tell which companies are using MGP as their source, but the following is a listing of whiskeys that are likely distilled by MGP:

31 N 50 Bourbon (Dry Diggings)
4 Spirits Bourbon (4 Spirits)
1888 Bourbon (Diversa Brands)

All that stolen Van Winkle is finally showing up. Lol
Haven’t had much Whisky the last couple of months. ( I’ve been cutting )
I did have a cheat meal at Longhorn last week. I ordered a double of Johnny Walker Black. The waitress came back with barely 2ozs in a glass? I thought a standard drink was 1.5 oz? I don’t drink out much but that just seemed like a shitty pour to me. Doesn’t seem worth even going out to drink.

Me being an accountant, and this being busy season, I’ve been having a glass of something or other every night when I come home from work. And enjoying every sip as I catch up with my wife at the end of each day.

Lately it’s been Baker’s. This bottle is almost gone, not sure what I’ll open next.
I can’t remember if you said you could get the Kirkland bourbon at your local Costco but I’d say the Kirkland bourbon is so close to Baker’s that it would be a crime not to drink it instead. I mean price-wise. I’ve drunk about 4 or 5 bottles of Baker’s (when I couldn’t find Booker’s) and since I’ve found the Kirkland one I walk past the Baker’s at the classy supermarket now and feel like I’m passing by an ex-wife that parted with me on amicable terms.
