I’m a golfer and during the winter run 5/3/1 programs around building strength and mass. As I’m not playing regularly, I do 4 days lifting a week alongside the cardio.
Now I’m in season, I’ve realised that 4 days of weight training is too much, and doesn’t allow me the time to get out on the golf course. The programs aimed at strength and size also leave my joints a little bit immobile (despite a dynamic warmup, stretching after every workout and a specific day of yoga every week).
I’m wanting to do a program during my season which is 3 days, and uses more ‘circuit like’ or ‘functional’ accessories, or something that’s generally a bit easier on the joints.
I’ve heard that whilst it’s not easy, krypteia might be okay for me during the season as it’s slightly more of a mixture of weight lifting and conditioning.
If you’re just looking for something easier on joints there’s always something with bodyweight assistance, 1 main lift per day over a 9 day week, maybe even just keep it at 5’s progression.
The BBB component of it sounds like it would go against what you were trying to avoid originally. It looks like a great program though, if you’re curious about it pick up the book and maybe give it a go next off season. (I am generally too f-ed up for it, but lots of people have enormous success with it).
There is a lifetime worth of programs in the book. Make sure you read the book first then choose your program, there is so much information in the book and he references acronyms earlier in the book that you will need for later on. Also what was helpful is there is a table of contents you can download off of Jim’s website. He will have everything you need for yourself for your lifetime. Have fun!
