Which Handgun to Buy

Sorry, PB, I kinda derailed your thread but you posted right in time as I was contemplating getting a gun and learning how to shoot. I spend quite a lot of time in Florida, and yeah, due to the recent events with that fucking TM case, I’ve decided to carry. I won’t need to do it in France. In the UK, I can’t unless, I’m interested in Game Hunting.

Now, I’m off to some Gun research.
Even though I like to think I’m a big girl, my favorite for concealed carry is my snub nosed .38. As a lady, they fit nicely in a bra holster but I prefer ankle holsters. Easy to conceal with boot cut jeans. Just all-around easy to carry and stash.

Haha it’s OK. Thread turned out to be way more interesting than I thought it would.

The secret to not getting shot is to not assault a guy with a gun and then try to unsuccessfully steal it from him. It has kept me alive for quite some time now.

Since you used to claim to be an English citizen, none, since it’s basically impossible own a pistol there.

Rather difficult for a tourist on a visa in the USA to pass the background check, as well.

Takes a week or more.

Or you can just get a plastic pistol and pretend, since that is all you do here.

Have to pick between Glock, Smith & Wesson, or Springfield.

Glock: G17 (Gen 3 or 4), G19 (Gen 3 or 4)

Smith & Wesson: M&P 9, M&P 9L, M&P 9C

Springfield: XD 9 Service, XD9 Tactical, XDm 9 Standard

I only got to hold the G17, G19, and XDm 9. I liked the feel of the XDm 9 and G17 the most, didn’t like the weight of the G19 so much. I’m a big guy with big hands so there’s that. The problem is the gun store I’m looking at right now is out of G17’s and I’m gonna need them soon.
What are you going to be using this gun for?
THAT is the question.

Open carry? Car? Concealed? If so, what kind of clothes do you wear?

Home defense? Shotgun first, then pistol.

I carry a 10mm Glock holstered. But NM is an open carry state. And I have bears in my yard.

Concealed? A Glock 27 in .40 or a smaller frame .357, if I am wearing cargo shorts.

Sitting in my desk drawer? Glock 22 in .40 and a old made-in-Western-Germany Walthar PPK in .380.

A .22 revolver works very nicely for certain jobs. Or so I’ve heard.

For someone who claims to know a lot about me and all my sheanigans, you don’t know fucking shit.

I never said I was an English Citizen. And I don’t go to the States on a tourist visa.

Thanks for your cooperation. Now, piss off.

Go for the Glock that fits your hand. They just hold up better under daily carry and cleaning and care is minimal

It was a joke. Due to their cheapness, lack of dropped shell casing, and difficulty tracking the bullet, .22 revolvers are the choice for professional drug killers here in the desert southwest.

Just walk up and a .22 lr point blank to the neck and run.

So as your first lesson on police work and you come across a hit like that you know you are not dealing with an amateur.

Glock 19 gen3 w/ Bowie Signature package. All the handgun I’ll ever want or need.

From thoese choices, get a Glock. If you want to consider another option, CZ-85 all the way.

I have never shot anything as smooth as my CZ-75B

When buying a handgun, there are 5 points to consider.

 1. Reliability
 2. Reliablity
 3. Reliability
 4. How it fits your hand
 5. How well you can control the recoil

Most modern pistols have few issues with reliability, so go with what fits your hand the best.
If you’re shooting 9mm, then recoil management should be fairly easy to master.
Kathy Jackson wrote on the sight linked above:

I will not go anywhere at gunpoint. If the bad guy wants me to go somewhere else, it’s because he will be able to do something to me there that he is unwilling or unable to do to me right here, right now. Therefore no matter how bad the tactical situation seems, right here, right now is the absolute best chance to fight back I will ever have and I intend to use it.

I will not be tied up. If the bad guy wants to tie me up, it is because he wants to do things to me that I would be able to prevent if I were not tied up. Therefore, I will resist while I am still able to do so.

I will not kneel. No one is going to execute me. If I die, I’ll die fighting.

If someone tries to take one of my children, I will fight even at the risk of my child being killed in the resultant firefight. I plan this not because I have positive assurance that I would be successful, but because I would not be able to live with myself if I simply “allowed” my child to be taken, brutalized, and his body perhaps never found. I’d rather watch him die in front of me. (Yes, that’s harsh…but given those two options and only those two, which would you choose?)

On that note, why would anyone dig their own grave? I was relieved to see this:

Plus it is actually very lethal at close range. Enough velocity to enter the skull, not enough to exit so it gets in there and pinballs around turning the brain to mush. Very effective.
