Whey Questions

Should whey shakes be always taken in milk or water will do just fine?

How much whey should I take in a day? If whey is so easily digestible, how come I am getting the runs after having about 2 scoops of the stuff?

Water works better for me. Perhaps your digestive difficulties are due to lactose intolerance? As far as quantities, you should be taking in a certain amount of protein per day. Protein shakes are just another food source to help you reach that goal. Personally I take in 240 grams of protein per day.

If you are trying to lose weight, take them with water because milk has a lot of sugar.

You should always keep protein high, but, its much better to get your protein from whole food like chicken, tuna and beef. I usually mix 1 scoop of whey in with morning oatmeal, then my current/post workout drink (Surge) has whey hydrolsate which is the fastest absorbing whey there is. So except for that a piece of chicken is much better than a scoop of protein.

Very true- don’t deprive yourself of real food!

However, whether you’re trying to lose or gain weight you need to eat several times a day, and whey is perfect for that- just put it in a bottle and add water when you need it.

As for the stomach problems- I learned a long time ago that some of the, ah, lower-quality protein powders out there can wreak havoc on my stomach. Invest in something that tastes good and won’t mess w/your digestive system.

I was getting this with cheaper whey earlier, but now its happening again. I am trying to gain around 10 pounds of weight.

I think cassein works for me very well. It is expensive compared to whey, but that works for me. Should I stop taking whey totally?

Try watering down your protein, and space drinks out evenly throughout the day. Take 1 scoop at a time, isntead of 2. I have the same problem… initialy I could down 2 scoops of crap protein without any problems, now I cannot.
