I can’t believe nobody has posted this before! I googled it, I asked friends, nobody has a clue. Where do you store smelling salts?!
I just got some Nose Tork from Lifting Large, excellent stuff. But after a while they leak from the bottle and lose potency.
Where should I store the bottles?! do they get refrigerated, frozen, put in a dry place with little light? What gives?
I bought a pack of 3 but hardly use it. Kept an open one in my backpack and some how it leaked out with the cap on. I think they lose potency over time regardless.
My nose tork bottle has lasted for almost 2 year now and still gets the job done (just need to inhale harder) the rare times I use it.
When I first got it I stuffed cotton wool in the bottle and have kept it in there since (this helps regulate the potency when you use it and may help it last longer, not sure). Also make sure you don’t leave it open any longer than necessary and keep cap on as tight as possible
I train at home so I just keep it in the weight room, I never thought that storing it a particular way would make any difference. However, every time I have brought a bottle of ammonia to a meet some leaked out. Even if I had it set so there is no way it could upside down or sideways. I have no idea why.
If are really concerned about this then get ammonia caps. Nothing can go wrong unless you burst them unintentionally and (at least the ones I have tried) are way stronger than the stuff in the bottle.
I bought 3 bottles a few months ago and threw one in my glovebox. When I went to get it, it was empty. Seems all the salt sublimated and escaped and was left with a new, empty bottle. Based on this experience, I’m guessing fridge would be a good bet.
I advise against this. I kept a bottle of smelling salts in my pocket one time and felt the distinct feeling of my leg burning, because the seal opened, ammonia leaked onto my skin and it burns. I was at work (working a late shift, hence the nose tork), threw the bottle in the fridge and forgot about it. Later, went to open the fridge to get a snack, and was practically hit with a gas bomb. I think the small condensed area of the fridge with the airtight seal created an undesirable reaction.
Now, this was a small fridge, and maybe a bigger one would work better, or maybe it would just fill with more fumes. Either way, that taught me not to store my ammonia in the fridge.
