Where to Start Learning about Nutrition?

I’ve just started working out. I’ve been doing the 5/3/1 program for 2 months. My diet during this time has been “don’t eat crap”. That’s all of the dieting info I know.

Is there something for people that don’t know anything someone could point me to so I can start learning about nutrition?

Build your meal around your protein source (usually some kind of meat such as steak, bison, venison, pork chop, ground beef/sirloin or eggs) then an easy to digest carb (baked potato, white rice) and finally a veggie (green beans, peppers, asparagus, carrots, spinach).

Pretty tough to go wrong if you follow that as your guide as long as you don’t go crazy with your portions!

That is what I’d always recommend to someone who doesn’t know how to eat ‘correctly’ to start with.

Once you get a hang of it you can eat the rainbow

Thanks for the shoutout @ChickenLittle! I gotta say, that @davemccright owned the basics on this one with his answer. Without knowing what @partee’s goals are in terms of weight gain/loss, performance, etc. it’s hard to give hard recs but a good place to start is with lean proteins, non-starchy veggies and non-refined carbs. The KISS principle at it’s best!

Thanks for the replies everyone. As I’m starting out I want to lose some weight but I also want to know about nutrition in general. Like when people talk about macros. I don’t have a firm grasp of the concept. I read nutrition articles and my eyes just glaze over.

There are hundreds of nutrition articles on this site. I suggest you read Christian Thibaudeau’s beginner series on the topic.
