Where to Buy Supplements?

Hey I was just wondering where a good place to buy supplements is and what is best to buy. Currently I buy Optimum Nutrition protein, this time from Amazon.

I buy my creatine and mega man ultra vitamins from GNC. Are there improvements/better deals to the supplements I have?

Also I see that a lot of people endorse Surge but as a college student I do not have a lot of extra money to spend on a supplement that does not seem to last long.

TY for any input/advice!

A workout shake (Surge) is gonna increase muscle construction/recovery a hell of a lot more than supplementing with whey… there’s simply no replacement for one.

challer, how often should Surge be used to be effective? from what i see to order it you get about 16 servings for $30… and dont you do 2 servings after working out which would make it last 8 days? (or perhaps i read an article on here about it wrong) Basically… would i see major results in 8 days or have to stay on Surge for a few orders (and thus spending more money)

Most people just use 1 serving after a workout. And unless you work out every day it will last a lot longer than 8 days. Say you work out 4 days a week, it would then last you a whole month. It is definitely worth it. You only take it after you work out, not on non-training days.

I have several places I frequent for different items:

Biotest website - for my Metabolic Drive and Flameout

BBing.com - for my Whey powder (I like cytosport’s choc mint flavor, only about $35 for 5 lbs), and ON’s BCAAs (400 caps for $19)

Vitamin World - for their brand of Fish Oils (which I take with the Flameout)

CVS - store brand multi vitamin (imitation Centrum -lol)

thanks for the advice… is megaman ultra a waste of money and CVS brand about as good?

Don’t take this the wrong way, but in my opinion store brand and mainstream multis are all but totally useless. Very low quality ingredients and usability. My first long time litmus test is E. If it lists dl-alpha tocopherol as it’s version of vitamin E it’s a pretty good bet that the rest is cheap crap too.

Stu - not sure which fish oil you’re taking, but Puritans Pride site sells pretty much the exact same stuff that Vitamin World does, and typically a bit less.
E.G.:
3 bottles of “Tripple Omega”
$90 at Vitamin World
$73 at Puritans Pride

I take a “low dose” multi - you end up taking it 4x a day, but ingredients are bit more bioavailable (in theory). Its not inexpensive. From “Nature’s Sunshine” (NSP)

In general - I “Google/Froogle” and see who’s cheap. Shipping is always a big component tho. I’d say 50% of the time I buy from BB.com, and others from various other eTailers. Even the odd bargain can be found on eBay…

YMMV
Don

Johnny- Thanks for the heads up. I usually go to Vit World when they have their buy one-get one (or something like that) deals, plus they always send me money off coupons, so it really comes down to next to nothing (last time I picked up two huge bottles of omega 3’s, and 2 huge bottles of BCAAs for about $45 total).

As far as a multi vitamin, well, I’ve read some people think they’r a complete waste, and others like to think it’s just a little fail safe to cover your bases. THat being the case, throwing down about $10 every 3 months for some generic multi is just my way of paying attention to the details. COuld it be a complete waste of money? Maybe. Could I get amazing results from a ‘ultra high grade’ multi? I doubt it. I’ve tried higher end brands in the past, and just ended up with flourescent urine -lol. Besides, if your diet is pretty good, just how much of a difference will a multi make? If I’m wrong, let me know! but all in all, my supplement regimen has been working pretty good the past year or so, and I’m definitely pleased with what I’ve found.

I work out 4 times a week, take 1 serving after workouts; it lasts a month. Do you really work out every day? Unless you play sports and have practice daily, I don’t really see lifting weights every single day as being optimal…

thanks for the input… and i was originally referring to 8 lifting days, not 8 overall days, sorry for the vagueness but all your posts have been helpful =)

Hey Stu,

I guess if you get coupons constantly, the ON BCAA caps are worth it but I just calculated the price/dose of those vs the Biotest ones, and Biotest comes out to 1 cent cheaper…not that that matters in the long run, but you do get more grams BCAA per bottle.

Vitamin World or Vitamin Shoppe? I normally buy health supps from Vitamin Shoppe online as their shipping is very fast.

Not a problem. Accelerade is an alternative thats a bit cheaper if the 26/month for Surge is too expensive (however consequently its ingredients are a bit cheaper, too).

so if i take Surge after lifting when should i take whey? just throughout the day?

I take my whey once in the morning and once at night on non-training days. Same thing on training days, but I never consume regular whey with the Surge. I wait at least a few hours between, give my body time to fully ingest the Surge and to eat an actual meal of course. Also, I always drink the whey after a meal, since the whey seems to “fill” me up real quick.
