Where Do You Workout?

I got everyone beat on this one! I train in the basement of a church!!!

Seriously… and we do have some decent equipment too…

 1. 8 loadable steel logs for the log press

 2. 4 sets of farmer’s walk competitive implements (a pair of 175lbs, a pair of 235s, a pair of 275s and a pair of 300s)

 3. 2 sets of loadable farmer’s walk implements

 4. 1 super Yoke

 5. 1 Viking press

 6. Aluminum Atlas stones up to 350lbs

 7. 2 olympic platforms, bumpers and competitive olympic lifting bars

 8. 1 reverse hyper

 9. All the bands, chains and weight releasers you’ll ever need

 10. A buffalo bar, a cambered bar, a thick bar, a hammer grip olympic size bar, a safety squat bar, of yeah, we do have a few regular bars too!

 11. A power rack and 2 individual squat stands

 12. Giant tires going up to 1000lbs

 13. All the regular stuff too … dumbbells, machines, benches and that kind of stuff. We have special dumbbells that can be loaded up to 200lbs

BTW, did I mention that it was in a church’s basement (insert the evident preacher curl joke here).
That is fucking brilliant!! I would actually go to church for that.

I work out at a martial arts gym. It teaches Japanese Jujitsu twice a week and Muey Thai twice a week.

Pros:

 1. It is really cheap - $445NZD/year for new member and $400NZD/year for re-joining - that’s $609USD and $548USD respectively in today’s exchange rate.

 2. The gym owner, who is also my PT, really knows what to do to combine strength training and martial arts together.

 3. It has all the basic equipments for martial arts training e.g. wave bag, heavy bag, thai pads, sandbag for lifting/throwing etc.

Cons:

 1. Because of the cheap price and the gym teaching martial arts to kids, it attracted a lot of soccer moms.

 2. Half of the gym’s space is occupied by machines because soccer moms love them. But I guess it happens to all commerical gyms.

 3. The gym allows people to do biceps curl in the only power rack it has.

Geek boy

CT may win when it comes to equipment, but i win when it comes to environment.

i lift under the sky in western washington. sometimes the sun is tanning my back, sometimes i have to find my plates under half a foot of snow, sometimes i bench with hail landing in my eyes, sometimes i squat with the wind trying to knock me over.

ahhh…the great outdoors…

I lift at this place called the Body Shop, formally known as The Bad Kat Gym…I love it. We have our own keys and code it’s a 24 hour place…I’m usually the only one there so I just bring some CD’s and don’t have to worry about anyone else bugging me. There’s a few treadmills and one bike…but other than that, it’s all free weights and some cables…It’s the closest thing to “old school” I can get in this town.
When I lived in Wisconsin, I worked out at a place very similar to yours. We called it the dungeon. It was a great place to train w/o all the bulls*%t. I loved it…I don’t think I ever had a bad workout there.

Since I’ve moved into the Chicago area…I now train at Lifetime Fitness…which has all the equipment you could ever want. The music sucks…unless you like listening to Mariah Carey, Boy George etc. Thank God for my MP3. Another thing that pisses me off?if I may rant for a second?is the so called ?trainers? will load equipment?have their ?client? do one or two sets?and then walk away leaving all the crap on the bar/equipment. Yet?they want the PAYING CUSTOMERS?.to put their weights way. Sigh?.

I used to work out there when Ray BadKat himself still owned it. I loved the place as well. You usually only had to contend with two to three other people at the most and that was crowded if that many.

Play the music you wanted as loud as you wanted. It was a great little place and I miss it.
Elk,
where do you lift now? Have you kept in contact with Ray? I haven’t seen him since he sold the gym but I hear he’s doing home training…?

@ my kick ass home gym! I have the following:

Ironmind finger straps for pullups.
IronMind Titans Telegraph for finger training.
Box squat!
10 inch platform for SLDL’s
20 inch box for depth jmps or box jmps.
3 jumpropes.
2 IronMind grippers. # 1 & # 2

Safety supports
Various tubing
IronMind fabled cables
Arm Blaster!
And a kick ass Philips Max Sound 5 disc stereo!
Lots mor mirrors!
Swimming pool for pool workouts to aid recovery.
Posters of legends

And I go to 2 different YMCA’s for b-ball, tennis & to workout to change it up & meet fine hot sweaty women!

Lostinthought, I live in Springs now and lift at a 24 hr Fitness. I actually came to springs two and a half years ago to run a personal training studio for Ray. He is a dear friend and has been a huge positive influence in my life.

He is a member of T-Nation and posts under BadKat. You can send him a PM and he will get back to you. I did a lot of growing back at the BadKat and had some good friends there as well.

Hey, are you excited about the B-Street Bashes coming up? Good times and many goodlooking women. Brings em out of the woodwork in good ol Pueblo!

I workout at 3 different places makes it nice working in corporate health can working out on your brean after work, no excuse not workout, and other place is by my house but i hate it there too many fat, overweight cocky powerlifter guys there not say theres too many there, i just dont care to hear them talk about the next powerlifting meet to me its nice to be able to lift almost as much as them, and still look good and actually muscle you can see, lol,

the other place i workout is this really upscale health club, very nice to work in corporate health again dont know what im going to do when i start coaching, working workout with the high school kids haha, right

In my sun porch.

I have:
Power rack with bench
2 oly bars
600# oly plates
140# oly bumper plates
oly dumbell handles
hex dumbells 5-50#
dip/chin station

Best part is my kids can play in the yard while I lift.

Elk,

Thanks for the info…I’ll get with Ray soon…The place isn’t the same without him that’s for sure.

As for the B Streets…Hells yeah I’m looking forward to them…They’re not sure if they’re going to have it at the depot or the riverwalk. The businesses on the street were complaining about having to shut down for it. But either way they’re always a blast…Like you said, tons of good looking women come out for that! Are you coming down for them?

Damn straight I’m coming down. Those are too much fun to miss. Send me a PM and maybe we can have a beer. Friends of mine own Mulligans its right on the corner of B-Street if you haven’t been there yet. A pretty laid back enjoyable place for a game of pool or a beer. Talk to you later, Elk:)

In my barn.

Power rack, 450+lbs in weights, two Olympic bars, flat bench, incline bench, dumbbells up to 115 lbs., EZ curl bar, jump rope, medicine balls…and oh yeah, my wife’s pole… yes, I’ve installed a strippers pole in my gym for her and …she does use it for cardio! However I CANNOT lift while she is dancing…you wanna talk about distraction!

Like Nate Dogg said “Only thing that can suck is when it’s hot as hell outside and even with my fan on, it’s still a bit warm for me. Otherwise, there are no drawbacks. Best place to train and best investment ever”… I agree wholeheartedly!

Forgot to mention the stereo system! You can’t beat a home gym when you can take your Spike and crank up the Guns and Roses, Rush, and Creed to ANY volume you so desire…let your wife perform a routine on her pole then let her perform her routine on my pole and then lift iron! Life is good in a home gym!

yeah i work out at fidelity investments they have a corporate site, solana club where i also work, and brickhouse gym which is a local pretty run down gym but those can be the best sometimes when want to be left alone not bother least thats what my MP3 player si for anyhow hehe

Oh, lots of trophies on the walls and 2 HS graduates on scholarship to play College football.

Anyone is welcome to train. PM me to let me know if you want to stop by.

My garage. I echo the ‘it’s hot as hell out here’ sentiment, so I need some more fans. Other than that…no lines, no distractions, my music (or lack thereof), and I can be as loud as I sometimes need to be. Since I’ve got the space and lifting’s important to me, I’d rather spend my money on equipment than gym fees.

My garage… and its FANTASTIC. My boyfriend has renamed the garage the “Bad As* Mudda Fukka Training Center” He graciously posted a sign that says enter at your own risk!

Only thing missing is some more bumpers. Mine go from 10 right to 35lb. I have big hopes

Never an excuse not to train, never have to wait for equipment, have a great workout partner (SicTorn) so getting a spot isn’t an issue and there’s a 100lb punching bag in there to relieve any “extra” stress after a workout!

Nice. I’ve dubbed mine The Boom Boom Room. I still haven’t made a sign though.

Basement.

Boom-Boom Room? That’s what I call my bedroom…my wife doesn’t want any signs…or I would have “enter at your own risk” for her benefit.
