When's The Next Check-In Thread?

IMO none of the lifts in the over 35 section count. Dad strength adds more to your total than multiply gear does.

? What are you talking about, not every person in the over 35 wear gear?

What is Dad strength?

I believe he was being facetious and possibly give props to the oldies (like how all 5yr olds thinks their dad is Hercules?). But I could be wrong…I’m old too!

It was actually an idea dreamt up by me and Nards.

Where’s your documentary/movie???
On the bottom shelf of the corner case in the back of the store with the rest of the gay porn.

Thanks could be, not trying to be a dick, just curious about the comments. There are some really knowledgeable and really cool guys in the over 35. Not to divert the topic however just because I guy uses gear does not mean they are not strong. Pete is fucking outstanding and even though we lost Meat those guys have forgot more things then most people know in the realm of lifting heavy things.

Very cool. Yep, something I only really got relatively-recently with my own training was just how much a concrete deadline on the calendar can improve focus/progress.

Sick progress, man. No need to wait to share, your call though. Congrats.

Is it a regular thing? Every 3 months or so? Would be great to see how everyone is progressing
Thanks man. It’s not like it’s an “official” thing, but like GMoore said, my plan was for it to be every 6 months - August and February - which is long enough that beginners and more experienced lifters can make some noticeable progress either in physique/size/definition or performance/strength, depending on their goals.

So… a hair under four months until next check-in. Mark your calendar, attack your goals, and plan to share.

And yeah, not for nothing, but Super Saiyan is right. Bird, your thread talked about making a physique picture avatar a mandatory requirement for posting. Not quite the same thing at all, because it’s thoroughly unenforceable and not everyone’s goals are physique-based.
You cut your dick off? That’s a bit extreme.

I am a woman trapped in a mans body, it was time for change.

Yeah no worries, it was a homage to the older dudes on the site; they’re far more likely to be hitting big weights and giving good advice on this forum than the posters like myself are. If I had dad forearms I could double overhand all my deadlifts.

relevant: Workaholics - dad dicks - YouTube

It’s officially known as old man strength. My husband is 54 and competes. One day when we were training with some friends in another club one of their young guys said that’s what he had “old man strength”.

“When my friends and I used to lift the old six foot bar with cement filled weights, we all thought we were pretty strong. Then, Dad would ask us to help him move a car engine or open a rusted jar of nuts and bolts, or put the ping pong table up on a rack for storage. Yes, I was the strongest kid in the four-house area, but every Dad had that scary kind of strength that allows one to pick an engine out of a Pontiac station wagon and carry it to the lawn.” - Dan John.

I would propose running a new thread quarterly. I just missed the August one and actually have something to post (pullups). Six months is a long time. It’s unlikely I can maintain my super human pullup strength for another four months.

And the 035 is the place to be. Strong, civil folks who are the best looking on this site.

Two and half years until I can join the strong, nice, pretty peoples. :frowning:

Agree.

I set new fitness goals every three months. A quarterly check-in thread would be perfect to keep me psyched. .

I think it should be the over 40 forum. Why 35? 35 year olds are still in pull ups and watching Mr Rogers.

Only over 35 yr olds will know this movie…

Whoa, I’m completely stumped. (Though I just turned 24 yesterday lol) I pride myself in knowing movies from the 80’s and 90’s, this one eludes me completely.

On topic: 6 month’s does seem like a long time, although I’m looking forward to it. In three months I doubt i’d make much change. I hope I make some progress though, I’ve been stuck at 180-182 range for a while, trying to hit 190 to see what my body looks like, hopefully 6 months is enough to not look like a total slob when I reach there. It seems like this is my body’s new set point, I’m having difficulty crushing it!

Probably because it’s from 1979…I just remember getting a kick out of the jerky father joining the rumble and loving it. He gets so excited during the battle he punches his own son at the end! lol It’s from a movie called “the wanderers”. My dad let us watch some violent movies when we were kids. “The warriors” was another we watched a lot.

I’m getting The Wanderers and The warriors mixed up right now.

 Oh perfect, it’s in February. It happens right around a time I was wanting to test my lifts.
