That’s a big number. Nobody has suggested that covid would ever be, say, the majority of hospitalizations.
Multiple COVID 19 models predicted oversaturation of hospital capacities. Multiple hospitals froze all elective procedures to ensure additional capacity was availble for patients with the virus.
And then there’s Bernie.
There’s plenty of studies and people that suggested that Covid would overwhelm hospital capacity.
My understanding was that COVID cases would overwhelm hospitals because they currently already operate at a 70-80% capacity. The fear was that all available beds would be taken up and patients needing hospital care for “common” health issues would not receive care, and there would be no room for more covid patients thus leading to people needlessly dying simply because there wasnt enough capacity in the system, NOT because medical science couldnt save them.
Yeah all the don’t shut anything down people are also the people who don’t do anything to avoid cases spreading. The idea that taking steps to prevent illness during a fucking pandemic is controversial blows my mind. But it’s not surprising we had people on this forum saying they wouldn’t wear a mask wouldn’t social distance none of that stuff. It’s not too surprising that many other countries have been close to virtually eliminating the spread and we will likely be dealing with this for a long time.
But you’ve got an administration that refused to set an example when it was needed. Now you can’t put the cat back in the bag. You’ve already convinced a bunch of types it’s Nazi Germany to try and do anything to prevent the spread.
Not in the least bit. A paper that’s not far from where I grew up compared the governor asking for people to wear masks to sending people to gas chambers in a comic.
Wonder how we convinced these people to wear any clothes in public.
No, and that’s dumb. Reopening is in EVERYONE’S interest.
I think mask wearing should be normalized for sick people, similar to how it has been in Asia for a number of years now. In other words, they shouldn’t be looked at like they’re weird for doing it. Helps avoid simple spread of easy germs. However I think it’s obvious that mask wearing as a normal daily thing should go away as soon as it is feasible.
Problem is, there’s no concrete answers to give right now.
We should be like the Japanese, if you have a cold or the flu, wear a mask in public. Also, if you are sick, stay home from work. If your kid is all snotty and nasty, don’t send him to school.
Like I have said before, many vaxers (pro-vaxers?) raise their eyebrows when I say I’m getting a flu shot. Like polio is a legit vaccine but bring up the flu shot and everyone’s eyes start shifting around like they are checking for for government spies lol
That sounds like a reasonable idea, but the problem is that people have bills to pay and often don’t have paid sick days. Even healthcare workers often come to work with colds and flus. If you’re already on a tight budget then taking a week off work can totally fuck you over.
What really pisses me off is the fact that we have millions of car crashes per year and very few of those are fatal. And yet the nanny state government makes me put my daughter in a car seat, has traffic lights, won’t let me drive 100 past a school, and thinks I shouldn’t be able to drive after using heroin. And by far the overwhelming majority of crashes no one dies. Now they are asking that I also stand in line a few feet back of the guy in front of me while shopping? Fuck that shit don’t tread on me. They ruined cars now they are going to ruin people buying a pack of cigarettes by asking me to wait for the person in line to finish before moving up.
I’m seriously considering a tattoo. I’ve always liked Wolverine and H. R. Giger, and I’m thinking about a Giger style set of Wolverine blades peeking out of the back of my hands.
Either that or a honey badger taking a nap after eating the cobra that bit him. But that’s hard to convey in a single graphic.
