When Does a "Fake" Pandemic Become "Real"?

And to answer your other question:

Allowing out-of-control “protesting” while closing smaller, controlled activities is the height of hypocrisy and bullshit.

Nor do we have to (nor will we) “shut down forever”. That is also utter bullshit.

What we DO need is careful, deliberate and measured actions/reactions and responses that mitigate the virus effect. It’s pretty obvious that this is not going to happen…so maybe we SHOULD just “Fu*ck it, and Party!” since half-assed measures won’t do it.

To the “what are” questions.

Epidemiologist, microbiologist/virologist, Public Heath Statisticians…you name it…people WAY above my pay grade are much better at answering those types of questions.

It sure as hell should not be left up to the whims of Politicians and Deniers.

Should anything?
Our current gov can’t even pass a budget.

A great reason to divide.

Sounds stupid. Pleas post your source.

Look guys.

I have been stabbed in the heart because of the pain and suffering this virus ( not some band of World-Wide conspirators out to take away my freedoms and enslave me in indoctrination camps) has brought on so many individuals, families and businesses; and to two of the biggest highlights of my year that I look forward to with joy and anticipation: March Madness and now College Football. (And don’t think that is frivolous. The cancellation of these two pivotal American events has led, and will lead to further financial pain and suffering for many individuals, families and businesses also).

I want things to get back to normal yesterday…but I know that mitigating some of the virus’s damage now will pay dividends later…and hopefully get us back to where we were much sooner.

I’ll make my choices, and you make yours.

My dad is. He’s a mason, building an addition at the local 3M factory.

They were all custom fitted for masks and told to shave off their facial hair to allow for the best fit.

No one enjoys wearing them but most seem to be just accepting it. Not the biggest deal in the world.

In my state, I see construction workers not wearing masks. We were one of the first states to go into lockdown. I think it’s kind of dangerous to do that work with something that covers your mouth.

If it were the virus(obviously, some individuals/families have suffered losing loved ones…but that goes for every illness), there would be no government mandates; everything would be free to open, and there would be no fear of punishment for disregarding government mandates-people wouldn’t even want to go out. When a blizzard dumps two-feet of snow on the South, things shut down because of the blizzard. When a virus appears and no one cares, so governments mandate closures/curfews/etc…that is not the fault of the virus.

Do some reading on the Spanish Flu. That is, if you are OK with proving yourself wrong.

Then why do we see huge pileups on the highways in the South after a storm hits? Could it be that people go out anyway? How many people need to get rescued when hurricanes hit because they refused to leave their homes?

I can’t even get my head around the point you are trying to make, @NickViar.

This is a Viral Mediated Pandemic. If you don’t agree, then we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

The way I read it was that, if the virus were real, people would take steps without needing the government to tell them because, as we all know, people are incredibly rational and never lack common sense.

Of course, if this were true, we wouldn’t need to have laws against DUI, people would not smoke cigarettes and McDonald’s would never have existed, among other things. Nick just suffers from utopianism.

You misunderstood, then.

It doesn’t matter.

This.

You articulated my point better than I ever could have. I wish I saw this before I typed my other response, because this is the sentiment I have been trying to express the whole time.
Sure if we collectively do the right things, then we can mitigate this disaster. But what if a certain, fairly large part of the population won’t play? Then anything else is pointless too.
Either we get together and fight this thing, hard once and for all, or we just let go and go back to normal because half-assed, partially enforced measures are useless, so they might as well not be done.
I salute you sir!

I thought it would be much harder to find it. But here is your stupid:

I too have been suffering and it’s not just been my heart. It’s not “gee I wish I could see a movie”. It’s “how am I going to live if this keeps up much longer?”

I am not a denier, I am a hanger-on-er. Cites are dying, people are dying at a much higher clip for non-carona diagnosis reasons. One way or another, this cannot go on like this much longer.
Outside the arguments real people are really suffering. And not a little, a lot.
We couldn’t come together to stop it, it’s clearly not going to happen now. Wash your hands, take your vitamins, wear a mask and let’s get on with life, come what may.

I agree. Got a buddy who is a roofer. The number of people that get sick due to heat in the summer already is high. Masks there, while baking on a roof, would in all likelihood lead to more actively dangerous situations.

If you’re in someone’s home, that’s one thing. If you’re doing demo/roofing/road construction…

Typically I expect more from the state I grew up in and love.
The WI DNT though has been a crap show for decades at this point. They can’t management the natural lands they have dominion over, not surprised they can’t manage people correctly.

I’m doing residential tree work now, and while I agree, depending on the field, many are already required to wear this-

An N100. For protection from particulate matter like asbestos, silicon (silicosis), acid gasses, chromium vapor, etc. The one pictured has the soft low profile filters to fit under a welding hood, but the hard cannister types are also used through out various industries and in hospitals for protection from Tuberculosis and Covid-19.

They actually aren’t bad. With new pads breathing restriction is minimal, and I’ve worn that one in 100°+ enclosed spaces.

Some real fancy stuff:

Even provide airflow adjustment and all of the ect.'s. The one pictured is by Miller, but Ive worked with a few guys who have used others and really liked them too.

Not saying that people should have to walk around in space suites, just that there are some things available for really tough environments most people might not know about.
