I also requested that my gym membership continue to be charged at the full price rate to help them out. Even though it’s likely I won’t go to the gym anytime soon (haven’t been since March) I do not mind helping the local business out. Plus I coached and taught the kids daughter so want to help.
I have essentially everything I need to maintain or make gains at home already but do look forward to returning to the gym. With my job I already have a fairly high amount of exposure so I’m not looking to add anymore. Not even worried about myself just the people I work with and the families I go see.
This I don’t support at all. Shouldn’t be done at that level.
What I really wish is that the President initially had came out strong in support of masks. It’s largely his supporters that are being willfully defiant of it and I think his initial response is partly to blame. Let’s face it when you won’t be photographed and when you make your VP not wear one in the Mayo Clinic your supporters who are already believing the virus is a hoax are going to have even more issues.
I just honestly don’t get it. We have no problem wearing pants to the gas station but we have people who lose their shit over wearing a mask during a pandemic. I get that an incredibly low percent of the population might have issues and those people should have exceptions. We probably shouldn’t have to mandate a lot of things we do and we could argue about some of those things but most of it comes down to common sense. It’s a pandemic and doctors are asking people to do something that the vast majority of the population can do with complete ease.
Uncomfortable at first or takes time to get used to? Sure but this is 1st world problems as it comes. It’s not even remotely difficult. We have zero problem saying all people should wear pants at the gas station. But we have lost our shit at saying please if you can do this super easy thing while our country is getting its ass kicked.
Sunday I had to go to my in-laws house for dinner. They are huge Trump supporters, to the point my wife’s stepfather is angry at Fox News for becoming too liberal. Anyway I digress. At some point in the conversation he says to me that one of his neighbors at his boat dock is a Dr. from Europe I believe (possibly Asia, but it doesn’t really matter). He and the Dr. are talking and the Dr. is telling him that everywhere in the world people are doing pretty much the same thing…social distancing and wearing masks. Now, instead of recognizing that the entire world is facing a global pandemic (I know- redundant) and this is proof, he goes on to explain to me that this is actually proof that not only are the socialists trying to overthrow Trump, but they are trying to take over the entire planet. I might also note that this man who believes that the virus is a political hoax is in an at risk group and makes youngest children (22 and 23) take their temperature 4 to 5 times daily and would not leave his house for months.
I agree that the degree to which some people take things when they’re outdoors seems kinda’ stupid but really, who the fuck cares? They’re not bothering me. I’ve never thought about what they sleep in because I don’t care.
Yes, in the heat you need more than one mask. I live in the deep, deep south where it’s hot and humid. Fortunately I don’t have to wear a mask outside most of the time but there are some work situations that require it, so I bring 2.
Nobody ever said or expects masks to be 100% effective at stopping the spread. There’s user error, mask quality issues, etc. but the fact is that if most people would wear masks, social distance when possible and wash their hands a lot we could get the economy back on track faster.
I wouldn’t doubt there are people doing that in certain places, there are some towns where it is mandatory to wear a mask outside at all times and not doing so can result in a big fine.
If it was mandatory to wear a mask outside where you live it might bother you. People doing this of their own accord just shows that they lack the ability to think for themselves.
Yeah I would rather see people wearing masks outside because they don’t understand things and think “well they don’t need to do that” than see a ton of people at stores without masks and thinking “why the fuck aren’t they doing that?”
Our issue in the US is certainly not people wearing masks too much when they don’t need to do so. I can guarantee where I’m from maybe the maximum amount of people wearing them when I’ve been out is 10%. It’s gotten a little better as time has went on but I can go to Walmart tomorrow at 5 pm and guarantee you the majority of the non workers won’t have masks and will look at me a bit odd for having one. I’m sure they are thinking “this dumbass doesn’t realize it’s a worldwide hoax.”
In the city that I live near it is mandatory to wear a mask outside. It’s mildly annoying when I’m there, but I get over it.
Again, why do people wearing masks outside on their own accord bother you and why do you think they can’t think for themselves? Maybe they’re on their way from one place to another where masks are required and they don’t want to touch them. Maybe they’ve got preexisting conditions and they’re trying to be extra careful for themselves. Who knows? Who cares.
You sound like a lot of liberals these days where as long as you’re thinking exactly like them, freedom of thought and expression is OK!
I think you’re very mistaken. Trump’s “supporters” are mostly people that hated this kind of dumb shit anyway. They only support him because they believe he is also against this crap. I don’t believe Trump has many supporters; I believe most just hate what opposes him. He certainly has some bobbleheads out there(the folks that went from voting Democrat to voting for him, for instance), but I believe most are just tired of all leftism.
Trumps supporters are largely people who hate listening to doctors and science I completely agree with. They are the side that attacks science and education constantly.
But if Trump had came out full bore for listening to doctors, wearing masks, etc I think it would have made a big difference. We would still have idiots who don’t give a shit what science or doctors say. But you can’t cast doubt on everything, say it’s going to go away no big deal, it disappears in the heat and it not have an effect. He missed his opportunity to unite around a common goal which would be doing what we can to prevent the spread of the virus.
The other day down the road from me where there are some stores and restaurants, more than half of the people on the street were wearing masks. It’s quite the opposite in other places.
It doesn’t actually bother me, it just seems stupid.
A lot of them here are wearing reusable cloth masks.
When there are 50 people outside and 30 are wearing masks would you assume that they all have preexisting conditions?
You mean like how you were all upset about people commenting on those wearing masks outside or in their cars?
Absolutely. In fact I even remember reading it some places on this very board. I heard it multiple places in real life, as well as other boards. I’ve explained to numerous people that the binding kinetics of covid and the lack of any immunity from being new would very likely eliminate a seasonal effect.
“Just wait til summer” was a common refrain, never mind that it was already spring by the time it got bad and wasn’t very cold at all.
