When Does a "Fake" Pandemic Become "Real"?

Totally agree. Thing is, people apparently think wearing a mask while in a store, or trying to keep 6’ apart from someone else is “life altering”. Its a small thing to do. Lowering the chance of spread by something like 10-20% is small individually, but is HUUUUUGEEE when looking at a population.

Sure, if collectively we were 10% cleaner than we were pre-virus it will help stop the spread of all kinds of diseases. Small things make a difference for sure.
I am talking about shutting down economies and the suspension of Constitutional Rights, not common sense measures.
Like I said, I will respect others, if they want me to wear a mask, I wear it. I just don’t see any evidence that it helps, so where I am not asked, I won’t wear it.

It’s not the mask itself that leads me to that conclusion, it’s that in uncontrolled conditions surrounding the mask. I wear one of those surgical masks, when I breath, the air comes from the sides mostly not through the mask. Then people constantly adjust the mask, remove it, put it back on, screw with it constantly. Well, that seriously screws with mask efficacy. Effective mask use requires a good seal with and not touching it with your hands.

If you were in a malaria infested part of africa and were offered a mosquito net with a few small holes in it, would you turn it down because it wasnt 100% effective?

The mask is meant to prevent you, when you are talking, coughing, sneezing, wheezing and breathing, from spraying spittle and larger droplets through the air. Does this prevent, you from spreading the virus if you are infected? no. does it reduce your ability to spread the virus if you are infected? yes. This isnt difficult to understand.

This part bugs me. Its like wearing muddy boots and saying, ill take my boots off when in other people’s house, but only if they ask me to. Pretty shitty manners IMO.

I always take my shoes off in other peoples houses.
And no, it’s not a matter of ‘asking me to’. I am saying I will follow the rules. I am polite if nothing else.

That is true, they were acting like the virus spares leftists or something.

I just think they need to do whatever is necessary (within reasonable limits) to get things under control and open businesses and schools again. Restricting travel or making people wear masks in stores is an infringement on liberty for sure, but it’s not as bad as shutting down most workplaces and destroying the economy. Right now the US is in a worse situation than Canada, looks like not only will the damage from the virus itself be worse but also the economic damage from shutting down a 2nd time. I don’t like the way this was handled from the start, but that’s another story.

People know these are the two choices. We have seen what they have chosen.

Imagine how dumb the average american is. Now realize that 160 million americans are dumber than that.

I didn’t know Alabama’s population was that high.

Are health professionals and the CDC others? Because they are asking if you will wear it out of “respect” for others. When pretty much the entire healthy community (it won’t ever be 100%) is asking people to do something and that something is super easy like social distancing and mask wearing why not do it? This isn’t a constitutional rights thing. It’s people asking people to take steps to prevent the spread of a virus during a pandemic. And other people being like let’s talk about all this other shit instead.

I have no idea the total percentage of help of social distancing and masks. It would be incredibly hard to have any type of accurate number or guess even. But it’s REALLY easy and if economies being back matters then slowing/stopping the spread of the virus makes sense. Look at the case numbers and where they are headed. Does anyone really think we aren’t headed for another shutdown at some point if we don’t make some changes? We’re breaking records every single day. And we still have people digging in their heels over changing in any possible way.

Why do we have so much trouble with the easy stuff that other countries get right in regards to this virus? Even being lead by the king of all idiots like we are isn’t an excuse for so many people to act like an idiot with this stuff. I mean fuck it I’ve worked the whole time I have an essential job. Our company told us we were wearing masks long ago. When I told our team they groaned but haven’t heard a complaint since. Wasn’t my call I lead our building not the company. But we rolled with it no big thing. It’s annoying. Would way rather not have to do it. But it’s super simple steps during a fucking pandemic. In a country with by far the biggest amount of cases and deaths.

I guess I just don’t get it. “It’s going to take a lot more to convince me to do something than just virtually all the doctors and nurses saying I need to.” I’m not so easily swayed.

We can’t even accept that fast food is unhealthy so I’m not surprised.

What fucking dummies here are still thinking the virus is fake?

Wearing a mask works. Those denying everything are like flat earthers.

@Nards:

It’s all over the Internet…with “armies” being mobilized to fight the oppressive Governors (mostly) and unelected Nazi Health Officials taking away are rights.

Some suggest that “COVID Camps” for those who will not comply are not far off.

(I wish all of this was hyperbole…)

Kinda ripping off Carlin on this one.

I’ve been paraphrasing that quote from Carlin at least once a week for the past couple years haha. It helps explain quite a lot going on these days. Fucking love Carlin.

Carlin was a genius IMO, and my favorite comedian.

On a side note, I wonder how much we will see of people doing shenanigans like this to comply with state orders?

You will now be able to signal to others that “I am far dumber than you thought”.

No man, you’re the sheep.

Think about it. You can spend 10 dollars on an ineffective mask and suffer the ordeal of wearing it, just to show everyone how edgy you are (it’s like being woke, which is good) or, you can just wear a mask that works, and it could even be something like a bandana which you might already own, so it’s free. I think the choice is clear: buy a mask that doesn’t work.

Yesterday, I took the girlfriend to the bar. As you may have heard, Governor Cuomo will not allow people to consume alcohol without food and you can no longer stand at the bar to order alcohol. Our solution? We moved a tall tabletop with two chairs against the bar and ordered a single bag of chips. Problem solved.

Our governor is an idiot AND a douchebag.

Classy. Couldn’t even order some real food to give what i’m sure is a struggling business some extra revenue.

Do you have no one else to brag to about being such a smart, rebellious patriot?

Don’t like brag above, but since my uncle is a bar owner I will chime in. Alcohol sales make all the money. Food barely gets sold above cost and is there really only to make you thirsty and therefore buy more alcohol.
For a long time my uncle held a Thursday wing night where he would sell the wings at $0.15 each if you bought an alcoholic beverage. The wings cost him almost $0.35 each to make → shows the mark up on alcohol.

So now the government is to dictate how much food I should or shouldn’t order? Or whether or not I can? What if I just wanted to go into the bar for a beer, but wasn’t hungry?

I mean, you really just bend over and let the government shove it up your ass, don’t you?
