When Does a "Fake" Pandemic Become "Real"?

When I went to the doctor because of a tick bite, she didn’t bother testing because of that and just prescribed antibiotics.

Same here. She gave me that little tidbit of info and some antibiotics. :joy:

This is pretty good actually. Like I said in the town I live in that’s very conservative you won’t find many mask wearers. More liberal college town not too far away it’s less common to see that and many stores either require or supply them. But when the President is consistently saying don’t trust doctors don’t trust the CDC they are all against me this is a setup or some shit well we are where we are.

The problem with Trump is that he doesn’t know what the actual job of the president is, as far as being one of the branches of government, nor does he understand the symbolic job of the president. There are many senators and congressmen but only one president. The former can be divisive and combative because they represent their constituents and not the nation. The president is the face of the country and ideally should at least appear to seek unity. But he is still the Trump of reality tv and the birther who publicly questioned Obama’s citizenship for whatever reason, attention maybe? It’s not enough for America to talk about an issue; we have to talk about him.

People think that when he wasn’t wearing a mask he was sending some message to his base but he wasn’t. He just enjoyed being asked why he wasn’t wearing one. He likes the idea of the conversation being about will he or won’t he wear a mask. It’s like who shot JR.

Another thing that needs to be emphasized!

Taking the totality of research into consideration, there are almost no labs that look like “CSI: Miami”. That shit is pure fiction (I mean obviously, but people don’t think about the sets for the show).

There are a number of big fancy labs in the country, but I could count them on my fingers and toes. The majority of the non-corporate research goes on in places that look a lot like your undergrad chemistry room, but with more modern equipment.

I’m not joking when I say my grad school lab has a “color” Mac from 1993 still doing work in the lab. Many, many labs doing valuable research are similar. They don’t grab the clickbait headlines but they do most of the important research.

Think about that.

Wal-Mart to start officially requiring mask…

(Can they please ban pajamas and bedroom shoes while they are at it?)

Interesting. What’s weird in my town which is pretty conservative is some stores say masks required but it isn’t enforced. The police have said they won’t enforce it a while back but even the stores with those masks required signs are letting everyone in without a mask. Not sure if they are putting that up hoping people will do it or what, but as far as I know we don’t have a single business in town that is turning people away for not having a mask on even though I know of at least a few places that are saying mandatory. So far the people not wearing masks are wearing pants though. So we got that going for us. Shame the virus seems to not spread from your knee so having pants is unlikely to help prevent it like they say a mask would.

How anti maskers see themself:

How they actually appear:

Seriously, people are completely fine with a bunch of Big Tech companies tracking their every move and activity, recording and data mining their conversations 24/7, but they draw the line at a minor inconvenience that may save someone’s life?

That’s simply an excuse for being a sociopath.

Valid points.

Actually, I believe that this politicization of no-nonsense health measures provides a legitimate cover for sociopathic behavior.

Virtue signaling of supposedly lofty ideals to cover for a behavior typical of a garbage human being.

Do you intend to infringe on the right to be a garbage human being?

They’re mostly just cowards and idiots trying to fool themselves into an illusion of bravery.

They want to be brave and valiant. They just don’t know how. It’s kinda sad if you look at it like that.

I’d hate to see the reaction some would have if they were asked to plant a victory garden or something.

Drunk driving is a good comparison.

I am much more against drunk crashing.

I wouldn’t put drunk driving in the same category as masks. By not wearing a mask you don’t pose any threat to anyone unless you are infected, being drunk behind the wheel is a different story.

But yeah, in places with lots of cases I think it’s a good idea to wear a mask whether it’s mandatory or not. There is certainly no benefit to catching the virus.

Back when civic duty and responsibility meant something.
