Out of curiosity, what is your favorite 5/3/1 variation and why?
I’ve ran the original for 3 years before even thinking about starting Beyond 5/3/1. Since I am more powerlifting focused than anything else, I plan on running the typical
5/3/1
Joker
FSL
Lat/Ab work on Deadlift/Squat days
Hopefully I can go far in terms of powerlifting. If you have any other options write it down below!
Man that is a toss up mine are the B.B.B. and the strength phase from the new book (aka 5-3-1 for power lifters)first why is the volume and the second is the switch between weeks one and two is a nice break.
My favorite and my go-to is dynamic effort per Beyond/ 5-3-1/ Jokers/FSL/ Triumvirate. I like the triumvirate philosophy because it makes me think and choose wisely for assistance while keeping the workout dense. Though I did just start the 75/85 variation on p.75 this week.
I like the BBB variation. It’s simple and totally effective.
Though recently I have tried something new with the BBB which I don’t know if is a good idea or bad idea. Basically from what I have seen of Jim’s " Beyond" on the website it seems like he sort of does this but what I do now is:
BBB Mix
Day 1
-OH Press warm up then 5/3/1
Squat: 5 sets of 10 @ 60% I think it was
assistance (Chin ups)
Day 2
Deadlift warm up then 5/3/1
OH press: 5x10
assistance
Day 3
Bench warm up then 5/3/1
Deadlift: 5x10
assistance
Day 4
Squat warm then 5/3/1
Bench: 5x10
assistance
So basically I work the main lift the next day of training for the BBB part. Granted I guess this ruins the hypertrophy part, but I do like how this feels through the week. Almost like when I’m really sore from the big 5/3/1, I get to stretch it all out the next workout.

Best one I have found yet is SVR from Beyond. It has a little bit of everything. FSL, Jokers and PR sets all in one package.[/quote]
x2
I like SVR too. Basically just tells you when to do FSL or Jokers and when to really push the PR. I like having a different focus each week.
