What's Your Excuse?

Every time I want to skip the gym, or puss out of squatting or deadlifting or whatever, I remember all the years wasted getting wasted.

I remember stepping on a scale at a “friend’s” house and seeing my weight was 146 (at 5’10" with a set of large Russian bones)…

I remember the days I would go without eating because my money had better places to go…

Every pound of muscle I add, every pound of iron on the bar is another bullet in the head of the scumbag I used to be.

Also, I watch Pumping Iron.[/quote]

Great post.

For my kids.

Seriously.

Not just so that I’ll be around to watch them grow up, but because I honestly feel it is my responsibility to provide the kind of role model that doesn’t sit on his ass all day. The kind that finds a purpose and sticks to it, no matter how difficult it is to find the time, or the energy.

My kids will be better people because of what I do in that gym every time I am there.

Simple as that.

  1. I have nothing else in life…seriously

  2. Get rid of the damage my family has done to me

  3. Being stronger(also better overall) than all of you

4.Ines

The 4th entry is new, but probably the most important.

that’s excellent.

now just give up the dark-ages superstitions, and you’ll be solid.

You are so absolutely right. Rarely…RARELY…I do hear parents say ANYTHING intelligent… It is our culture - really backwards and weird.

The truth is, the smartest thing you can do for your kids is learn to be happy and healthy YOURSELF and then they will learn to be happy and healthy their own way, their own selves.

That’s great…great to read such an intelligent post.

don’t make “ines” such an important thing in your life, pal.

you’ll be headed for a fall.

you are your own best friend. worry about that guy. do that, and you’ll never run out of people like Ines who truly admire and love you.

make “Ines” really really really important in your life, and prepare for a fall.

i’m belgian i just began my excuse is that i always wanted to have muscles i never did something about it thou but now i’m going to ! and maybe because the past few years i put on a few pounds :s
i just want to look good! thats my reason

Because I got tired of being fat, and dieting alone wasn’t fixing it.

I think of pictures I see of people who look better than me, and it drives me to improve. I am never good enough for myself.

Got tired of being the skinny guy…and to be a role model for my daughter.

The positive compliments for women also seem to help

You got a point, Yoda. But thing is, she talked to me when I was really negative. I just feel I can do better by her. And she’s given me the first positive motivation I’ve ever had.

I keep my training routine and my diet on the fridge, next to a piece of paper says 106 days till first PL meet, and 160 till the trip to the Bahamas. The Powerlifting meet is in my hometown, and i’ll be driving 6 hours back there to compete against guys that i absolutely have to beat, and the cruise ? well, i just wanna look good nekkid for that.

I don’t feel as good when I don’t lift. Now that I’m starting to train right, I feel better, look better, and am a better athlete than I ever was before. I couldn’t stop if I tried.

Everyday I workout I’m maintaining an enviroment in which I can get stronger, bigger, and faster.

I want to be the person that comes to people’s minds they they think about any of those attributes.

My kids as well. eengrms76, you’re right. I never thought of it that way, but you are absolutely right.

My other reason is because my wife, who is usually pretty reserved and never comments on other guys, said to me one day in reference to our neighbour - wow, you can really tell he takes care of himself. That kind’a threw me off, I had never heard her comment on another guy before. Now, I’m just addicted to this stuff. Motivation comes easily - all day I am thinking about what I am going to do in my work-out that evening!

I don’t need an excuse.
I want to be the best.
I want to be the strongest.
I want to be the fastest
I want to WIN.

let loose the agression (nothing like stackin weight on the squat bar to do so) , i love pullin heavy ass weight around and i wanna set some records for my school powerlifting team this coming year

this thread is funny everyone just bragging about how tuff it is to go the gym and bust your butt. do you guys want pats on your back for doing this now. in my opion you shouldnt get a pat on your back for going to the gym but a slap in the face if you dont.

Try every day to be a better man.

I don’t have a reason to lift. I just do it. I enjoy it. I don’t have to coax myself into it, my problem is getting out of bed in the morning to go in. I do it anyway though because I feel better all day after I lift than if I dont.
