Mark IVs are great for your scenario. Easy to breakdown and field clean, very reliable.
Ruger doesn’t always have the prettiest fit and finish but they make excellent quality weapons from a functionality and reliability standpoint.
I personally like the old Marlin .22s. The tube fed model. But it’s nostalgia for me. Plus I think Ruger owns them now, and there could be a much worse scenario for an icon take over, like Remington.
Looking to get a 20ga for home defense. Preferably semi-auto.
Needs to have enough ‘fuck you’ to turn the lights off for anyone on the other end, but not so much that my wife can’t effectively handle it. Figured 20ga is the sweet spot for that.
I would add the Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol and Beretta 1301 tactical for consideration.
I believe both come in 20 gauge as an option, but Berettas gas management system makes recoil on a 12 gauge lighter than most would assume.
I have the A300 for home defense and another version of it for duck hunting and it has been great. Same guts, different furniture per application. Haven’t had a problem from dust around inland ponds to coastal salt marshes.
Happiness is a belt fed…and I’m all out of…ah, forget it. You get the idea.
The meantime, my short list is: HCAR, RPK, M249 Para. And yes, I know these aren’t all belt fed.
My FFL is a licensed firearm manufacturer. He was joking (key word with a lot of nuance: JOKING) about putting a “fun switch” in my Vepr 12 shotguns when I picked them up. All the while, wiping down his M60 sitting on the counter…that magnificent bastard.
Not a dream gun but grabbed the Sig P365 AXG Legion to swap with the CZ P01 Omega for my concealed carry gun.
I’m going to miss the double action but this one imprints notably less and feels surprisingly comfortable in the hand. Not as comfy, but a solid tradeoff for more stealth.
