Chk your Email Matt

Hey Matty. Looking forward to the vids of you kicking butt in your meet.

Go Rangers!

Thanks PG, Im looking forward to it as well…

Thanks again Rick!

second to last session before deload time and meet day. My bench has been awful as of late so a rest is needed

DB Incline Bench 100/15,15
DB Flat Bench 100/10,10
DB Decline Bench 100/12,10

Chins - 10,10,8,7,7

DB Rows 120x3x5

DB Reverse Fly 35/30,20,17

Full O Meh

How long deload are you taking?

Why you keep pushing so hard on your Bench? Would it not make better sense to do 315 and really own that weight paused and move it with speed than to keep going up and failing at a weight?

Rick

Cav - 2 weeks

Rick - I was just following the program, albeit I didnt account for the discomfort and pain im in now. This is also general weight that I was getting somewhat easily 6 weeks ago so even with nagging injuries and pausing I still felt I should get it. My benching has gone seriously gone down hill leading up to the meet im hoping the deload will alleviate the aches and pains.

Well this is it folks, my last “real” session before the meet. Thankfully it was an excellent one a +10. I felt strong but was smart enough not to push it and it went like this. Oh and I was alone and I got a shit ton of sleep the night before, no wonder I had a good session.

Deads - 250/4 350/3 405/2 450/1 470/1 425/5 - Felt quick and explosive, something I would never describe my lifts as.

OH Press - 135/10 155/5 185/5 205/5 225/2
SS
Chins - 5,10,10,10

Tate Press - 40/20 45/15 50/15

BB Shrugs - 135/20 315/20 405/15 455/10
SS
Front Plate Raise - 10,10,10

OK as of now Im thinking of my attempts like so…I figure I go for broke if the 2nd attempts go well.

SQUAT - 350, 365, 400
DEADS - 460, 480, 500
BENCH - 315, 320, 325

Fingers crossed

Best of luck Matty!

** OFFICIAL MEET WRITE UP **

I figure I should still give a blow by blow write up of my horrendous performance at the June 3 WNPF Meet.

My second time competing and I must say that the meet was run extremely well and professionally a few problems but Ill get to that later…

1st SQUAT - 350 - Easy felt great got very deep, only thing is I had to rush because I could not hear the announcer announce my name. 3 Whites

2nd SQUAT - 365 - Easy, but I got red lighted because I jumped the rack command…wow that sucked because I WAS going for the 400 on the 3rd attempt.

3rd SQUAT - 370 - Easier than the 365…since I fucked up on my last attempt I wanted to make sure I got it and I did.

370 Meet Squat +40 Meet PR

And it all went down hill from there.

BENCH - I decided I I would go with 320 because I hit it with real ease last Tuesday, and hit it at my last competition easily as well, Well I bombed out here, I dont understand I have come up with the following reasons errrr excuses…

  • I usually do not like a hand off but for some reason I wanted one I wouldnt say it threw me off but Im more comfortable taking it out myself.
  • I went to wide with the grip, I could not find, for the life of me find the power rings, from looking at the vids I went to wide with my grip.
  • A spectator mentioned that Im not tucking enough which I also believe I didnt do.

WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID…there is no fucking way I should of missed this lift, 3 fucking times! Ive done it so many times easily and did it in my first meet…Im totally fucking puzzled.

DEADLIFT

crickets…crickets…crickets

This actually really pissed me off, because even though I bombed out I still could of pulled and I asked to do same, warmed up and they didnt call my fucking name. Another lifter bombed out on the bench as well and he pulled. I asked the guy at the table why they didnt allow me to pull and they said they called my name…I asked my wife if they called my name she said no I asked my friends Mom and girlfriend if they called my name and they said no…fucked up because even if it didnt count for the WNPF it would have counted in my head…

Im pissed, so I will be doing a third meet in October to redeem myself.

Or like my wife said to me after my shit show…“theres always Zumba with me babe.”

Vids to follow…

Strange on that Bench. I have done this myself but normally its in my own damn head that screws me up. Start over thinking everything and the next thing you know you are stuck in quicksand and can’t get out. I always open up with something ridiculously light. Like my last warm up is my opener kinda light. Just to settle my mind and my nerves. I know this was a light opener for you but I mean Ridiculously light, lol. I opened at 285 my last meet and ended at 330. Oh and I have never seen anyone get to pull if they have bombed in anything else. Well at least the 4 feds I have lifted in.

Good job getting out there and going for it Bro! Big props just getting on the stage…

That sounds disappointing for sure, but all meet experience is good for you and you probably learn more from disappointments than from successes. That does suck not getting to pull. I’m with Collin on bench openers, I opened at 245 my last meet and hit an easy 303 for my second.

I’m sure you will smoke the next meet in October and I’m looking forward to the vids.

meh, I have bombed on stupid light weights before. it is all mental. you will be ok next time

No worries Matty.

As Jack said we learn more from our mistakes than our successes.

So whats your next plan of attack (which program)

Smolov?

Sheiko?

Ed coan 12 wk cycle?

slow and steady 5/3/1?

Westside?

Nice squat PR Matty. You worked your ass on this lift, good job. meh, to the other stuff. You’ll get it in October.

Colin - Thanks man, Ive come to the conclusion that it was a total joke choke job on my part, my fault, case in point I hit 320 today like it was 225, yeah my grip was too wide at the meet, yeah I took a hand off when I usually dont, no matter what I should have had it. I have never heard being able to still lift (albeit) not counting but the moderator said I could, kinda like a pacer I guess

Jack - It definitely was brother…I gave myself yesterday to grovel…I hit the gym today and Im on to the next meet, maybe September maybe November, but I will start lighter.

Rick - Hey bro, Im not sure what Im going to do next…possibly JAZZERCISE! Seriously today I just did a light bench day like %65 of my max, I like Ed Coans bench routine.

Austin - I was happy about that and felt like going 400 but didnt because of the redlight.

Onward and upward gents!

Here in order are the 370 Squat meet PR, The Bench Fail at the meet and my 320 bench today as well as the 365 I got red lighted on.

Back at it today…no rest for the weary

Flat Bench

245x2x10 320x1

CGBP

225x2x10

Incline Bench

205x2x10

SS with Supine chins 5x10

TBAR ROWS - 2plt/20 3plt/15 4plt/10

Rear DB Flies - 30/20 40x2x15
ss
Tate Press - 30/20 40x2x15

HLR - 4x10

Congrats on the squat. Sorry about the bench. Weird about the deadlift.

How many people competed? Didn’t look like many. I’ve seen meets where people get in line to lift, impossible to miss someone that way.

Well at least im in good company…it gives me hope!

It wasnt small , I would say about 50-55 lifters

Nice squatting Matty, you’ve worked hard on that lift and it shows. That bench is light weight for you, the mental stuff is definitely tricky though -Mike Tuchscherer (best male PLer around) takes the bar out on bench solo in meets (and it’s not light weight!) because he trains alone and that’s the way he feels comfortable doing it.

Third time will be the charm, no worries.
