What You Dislike Most About Lifting

Two things…

1 - Eating. “I’m a beast in the weight room and a pussy in the kitchen.”

2 - How tired I get after working out. It’s weird, it’s as if I have no energy whatsoever, but not how it used to be. I used to love the feeling, it would actually rejuvenate me. Now it just wipes me out and I feel like sleeping for two days.

 1. the time constraints. Someone already beat me to it, but between the job, home duties (yard, etc), and family duties (I have active children), there isn’t much time after 5am to lift. Also, with all the above, 5am seems to come a LOT earlier every day.

 2. The fact that none of my friends share this passion. Most social gatherings consist of crap-food and beer, which makes it very hard to stay on track. It’s also annoying to always answer the “why” question without saying “cause I don’t want to look like YOU”.

I hate how heavy everything is. It’s really annoying that year after year, everything just gets heavier and heavier.

What’s wrong with me?!?!

As an FFB myself…not only do results not come fast enough, but it seems like any more than one meal that not’s clean and I look like I haven’t trained in weeks.

Totally agree with this. It doesn’t even take one meal for me, just one bite or even the thought of a bite. I could look up Krispy Kreme in the phone book and gain three pounds instantly.

My main dislike is the waiting… Whether it be getting done with a workout then having to wait for the next one. Or waiting for results to show. Or waiting for weight loss. Or Waiting for my T-Nation posts to appear. Or just plain waiting. I’m very impatient, if you couldn’t tell.

I also agree with the time deal. Married, two kids, 7:30-5 job, etc. I find I need to neglect the family in order to train, as i can’t neglect work. I wish it was the opposite but I hate waiting to win the lottery too…
Yeah I hear ya…I’ve gotten used to the waiting so I just enjoy the ride now. But I’m with ya all the way on the Krispy Kreme thing.

Shit, if I dream about Krispy Kreme I’ll wake up a fat slob

Stretch marks every bloody where :frowning:

People who ask the same questions of you everytime in the gym, then generally don’t listen and finally they always gloss over my advice on squat and deads s0 they do extra arm work instead.

120lb boys/men asking for forced reps on their lateral raises.

People who give you a look of death if you ask to share a machine with them…while they’re resting.

Women who do 50 - 100 reps on the leg press… with no weight on it.

Generally i don’t seem to like people in the gym and in fact people in general - the life of a hermit would suit me methinks!

Maaaaaaan…I know exactly what you mean. I really, really hate it. Sometimes I even feel bad saying “because it’s bad for you” to my wife when she asks me why I won’t eat something delicious.

I hate being negatively judged for trying to live a healthy lifestyle. It feels like swimming upcurrent sometimes. :frowning:

I feel your pain. In light of the latest information about not loading the spine upon waking up, this really puts a damper on things.

getting tired

quit bein a pussy, loading plates is not hard, I don’t care how much you deadlift.

Out of all of these I have to say that I relate to this one the most.

I always feel like I’m being judged and I always feel like the outsider when there’s a party, or I’m offered “treats” somewhere.

It’s more acceptable to eat junk and drink pop than it is to politely refuse it.

What the hell is our society coming to?

…and God forbid you EVER refer to the (lack of) nutritional contents. Then you’re just arrogant!

Here’s my top 6 at the moment, in no particular order;

 1. People who lift the little rubber weights for ten billion reps because they’re scared of getting “bulky” or “muscle bound”.

 2. People who misuse the term muscle-bound.

 3. People who try to make me eat pizza and/or drink beer, how many goddam times do I have to explain myself?? In fact, why should I have to explain myself at all? ARGH!

 4. People fucking staring at me CONSTANTLY in the gym. Why?? It’s a commercial gym so I guess having a BMI of 31 is big-ish but there are bigger dudes around to gawp at. Maybe they just think I’m ugly

 5. Lastly, but perhaps the most annoyingly are those absolute BASTARDS who just sit on the equipment “resting” for about 5mins at a time, inbetween their 3x10 seated lateral raises. Their oh-so-fast-paced “workouts” on average last about four years.

:frowning:

P.S. I’m a very angry man, and yes I do need help.

I never said it was hard, it’s just a hassle and it’s time consuming. My workouts would easily be about 15 minutes less if I didnt have to spend all the time it takes to load and unload the weights.

Immune system breakdown.

A couple of people have already said this but I gotta vent about it. People who don’t freakin’ put the weights away when they are done with them or put them in the wrong spot. I hate it when some guy puts every plate he can find on the leg press machine, then proceeds to do 1/4 presses and then doesn’t put all the plates back. Seriously, I want to hit these people in the head with a plate. And I think some people need to go back to elementary school and learn what size plates go with what. 5 lb weights don’t go with 25 lb weights. Seriously, one of these days i’m going to snap on some useless schlub and it will make me feel soooo much better.

I gotta jump right on board with this one. I sometimes worry that I’ll have to competly depart my social circle to reach my goals. I get actively mocked(though not that harshly) for trying to eat well and going to the gym.

I have a friend that calls me at 7pm every Monday and Tuesday an askes what I’m doing. Those are gym days and I leave at 715pm so I always tell him I’m going to the gym. when we finally do catch up at a gathering he regales the huddled masses with tales of how I must spend hours at the gym instead of hanging out with everyone and how when I’m not doing that I’m hunched over a pile of grilled chicken(I wish this one was true.)

If it was easy, everyone would do it. Consider yourself an elite part of the population. Think of how crowded the gyms would be if training was as easy as shopping for snacks at WalMart.

Thanks Goj for putting things into pespective.

I do hate the haphazard reracking of weights. It takes a total retard not to figure out that different plates go on different pegs FOR A REASON. I want a plate. If people did things right I could just walk over to the appropriate peg and grab said plate. Instead I have to unrack every other goddamn plate on the rack in order to get the plate that is behind and interlocked with the rest of the assortment because some asshat was too stupid or lazy to do it right.

If it’s too damn difficult to put the plate on the correct plate, then you shouldn’t be lifting it in the first place you pussy. If you can’t figure out why certain plates go certain places, then please speak to an attendant so you may be euthanized.
Thanks.

I think that this is one of the things I love most about lifting.

It is a fairly slow process, but I feel it makes your progress more respectable (if that’s the appropriate word).

It’s a real accomplishment when you start to possess a physique that others are striving to achieve.

Thousands of people work out in gyms around the world everyday, but only those with real commitment and dedication will make improvements year after year.

Although I love lifting, one thing I hate about it- Loading weights. I work out at home, and it sucks not having any of those nifty weighted dumbells and having to switch all the weight from my squat rack to a barbell to do deadlifts…
Yes, that is so true about your home gym. It would be so nice to have all the nifty stuff at home.

Also, not being able to train as often lately, with all this cost of living inflation where I live I have to work a ton of hours. I wish I could train people for a living, that way I could be around weights all day and train as often as I’d like myself, while doing something I truly love. Woo that would be great!
