What Would Reagan Have Done?

No shit. When you make up words, it’s hard to lose.
But when you win two straight Presidential elections, I just don’t think the game of scrabble comes into play. But if that’s what you Jersey Boys have to do to get through the night - who am I to judge?

I wonder if some folks around here have any inclination how the old boys network works?

RainJack,Why do you think GW is so wonderful? I have read a lot of the posts and i think GW would have a hard time debating? any of you guys.He just doesnt seem to be that quick witted. He reminds me of the guys i see all the time, that their secratery is actually the brains in the outfit but they get all the credit.
ron,

I met GW and had the pleasure of speaking with him and found him to be witty, and very much engaged. I’m not saying he was Albert Einstein, but he was not at all as he is portrayed in the press.

The press also portrayed Ike, Ford and Reagan as stupid. While I never met and spoke with any of them I have a feeling that the press was wrong there as well.

By the way three of the four Presidents mentioned above won second terms by more votes than they won their first terms by. Not that that is a sign of intelligence, but it might be a sign that the only way to put them down is to insult their intelligence as the press continually does.

Gee do you think the press lies? No…can’t be…

(Incidentally, Bush’s National Guard IQ scores were higher than Kerry’s IQ into the military. Not that IQ is the total package, but it does matter.

Why don’t you Bush haters give it a rest? Oh, that’s right you can’t he won and you hate it!

I wonder if the omniscient canadian could enlighten us. I’ll get the popcorn.

I’m betting that you depend a lot more on the latter than you do the former.

Zeb,I am not going by press reports, just from observations of him speaking on television and how he carries himself. His first 4 yrs. he had the deer in the headlights look ,like even he couldnt believe he was there. Like pinch me is this real? Now he’s gettin a little swagger and that walk of confidence like he belongs there.Maybe he just gets a case of stage fright when in front of the cameras or crowd??

Can any of you fellows give some light on the deal of mrs bush hittin some guy in a car and he died.A guy at work was telling me he saw something that she hit her old boyfriend cause he wouldnt marry her .Whats the scoop???

You wouldn’t be the first person that misunderestimated him. And then got their ass handed to them.
It is all part of his strategery.

Listen Vroom, you’ve already made me question whether the sun is really there and if there was a moon landing. Don’t you start on your ridiculous theories about how a rich father who is President of the most powerful country on Earth might be able to push his kid through top schools, all on the way to the Presidency. Ha! LAughable. …
I love this theory. Bush’s old man couldn’t even get himself re-elected.

You just don’t get it do you?

It’s easy man all you have to do is have your father become President and then you get to be President. It happens all the time it’s so easy.

No wait a second…it only happened one other time and that was about 200 years ago…Well maybe there is a trend starting…LOL.

You said it. not me.
I think it’s more a commentary on you than it is the President. But hey - like I said - whatever it takes to get you Jersey Boys through the night. The funny part about this is that You guys vote for Corzine as a Senator - and you have the gall to bitch about Bush? Yes indeedee doodee - it must be the hooch.

Oh there’s a trend starting, ZEB - It’s called a Republican controlled government. And I love it.

Just as long as wives don’t start getting elected we should be OK.

If I were omniscient I’d really know it was pointless trying to get some of the right wing rabble around here to give an inch!

Anyway, connect the dots if you can follow along and see what I’m saying.

Some phrases…

 • Riding the coattails…
 • It’s not what you know, it’s who you know…

Heck, I know for a fact that the university I went to gives preference to family of previous alumni – because you want them happy so they contribute money.

[Shoot, I even worked for what is called the advancement office, which really solicits millions from alumni so they can build new facilities without spending their own money. Guess who they hit up… rich alumni and their parents – no shit! Failing junior is not conducive to raising money.]

Holy shit.

Not everything in the world happens based on merit. Not every test score report is accurate. Some people cheat, bribe, steal or have the path cleared for them by others.

I’m not making any particular accusation, but get your heads out of your asses, you have no idea whether or not anybody “greased the skids”, but you argue as if it never ever happens.

If you want anyone to take you seriously, you have to admit that it does happen in the world and that you don’t know whether or not it did happen.

Then you can make all the snide stupid coments you want.

See, to avoid being a cheerleader, you have to at least acknowledge what are known to be common practices and principles and admit your own lack of ability to know.

Then, you get to state your opinion and have people listen and accept it.

This isn’t what you are doing. You are defending Bush as if he is a saint, and you really don’t know if he is smart or not. You don’t know if he had an easy time of getting through life compared to us mere mortals.

Honestly, I’d guess that Kerry had the wheels greased too. Rich people tend to get catered to. They get their asses kissed by a lot of people, surely you know this about the world?

This willful ignorance and refutation by insult has got to be the stupidest bunch of bullshit I’ve had the displeasure of seeing on these forums day after day after day.

There, how was that? I hope you had a chance to eat most of your popcorn… I know I hate it when the movie it too short and have leftovers!

FightingIrish, you are cracking me up dude! Sorry to shatter those illusions…

Rainjack,

I’d hate to break it to you, but you know what generally happens after a shift to the right. A shift to the left.

You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out… ooops, sorry, different topic.

Also, in the course of history, the entire world has become more relaxed and less authoritarian.

If you want to look at trends, all your cherished beliefs (and mine) will be thrown by the wayside by future insights into humanity.

What you consider liberal today will be the future conservative viewpoint.

What’s that song… tiiiiiiime, is on my side. [Yes it is!]

You are going to be grumpy unhappy old coot when the pendulum swings along for your older years – if not sooner.

I agree that things shift over time, but I don’t think things will continue to get more liberal.

Think about it. Homosexuality was a huge part of great empires that have existed before. Something that in some ways is still considered extreme in our society. How did it seem to not be very popular in the time between greece and now?

Things will shift to very conservative in the next few centuries. Just like thing will get more liberal too.

Haney,

I think the coming of Jesus and the establishment of a new religion with new rules was a one off…

Or do you know something we don’t?

Holy crap vroom - I think you just gave me a relativist overdose. Please learn to rein that shit in. It gives me the willies.

As for things swinging back and forth - I agree. It has taken the better part of 60 years to swing back to the conservative side. If it takes 60 more to swing back - that’s fine with me.

Besides with the current shambled condition of the DNC - a liberal comeback won’t be happening anytime in the immediate future.

Relativist? [As the judge in My Cousin Vinny asks] Boy, are you on drugs?

Did you actually read what I said or are you just trying to tweak me because you are bored as shit out in the boonies and you’ve already shot all the wild animals that strayed into your tumbleweed strewn yard?

I don’t think that is the major factor. It is not like other religions were outlawed. If that was the case then you would have to explain the Islamic movement. Arabia was a very pagan society until that time.

I don’t think I know something you don’t I just have a different pov.

I could be wrong, but things usually repeat.
