What Would Reagan Have Done?

Relativist? [As the judge in My Cousin Vinny asks] Boy, are you on drugs?

Did you actually read what I said or are you just trying to tweak me because you are bored as shit out in the boonies and you’ve already shot all the wild animals that strayed into your tumbleweed strewn yard?[/quote]

No - I read your post. I was particularly captivated by the Hokie-Pokie reference, as that is pretty much what I think of when you crank up the relativist victrola.

But with that said - yes I am trying to tweak you. But tumbleweeds won’t crank up until after we get a freeze. And judging by the fact that it was 100 damn degrees here yesterday, I don’t think we’ll be seeing the the tumbleweeds for a while.

RainJack,What do you do down there in that panhandle?? Are you a cattle man gettin subsudized by that Govt. Teet.just curious not meant to affend.I know a lot of farmers who feel they get a better deal when repubs are in office.

Haney,

I’d really hate to stir up the religious wars in these here parts, but I think all the “one god” religions solidified around the same time that Jesus came.

It was a general movement towards “one god” that gave a single set of rules that were easy to follow. This lead to much stricter behavioral rules for about a thousand years.

So, unless there is a second coming that you know about… the “big bang” impact of solidifying pagan “many god” religions into a grand unified “one god” religion has already been felt.

Since then, we’ve slowly been expanding our liberties and loosening the strictures that control our behavior. That’s my take on it… your mileage may vary.

I don’t think that is the major factor. It is not like other religions were outlawed. If that was the case then you would have to explain the Islamic movement. Arabia was a very pagan society until that time.

I didn’t know we were talking religion.

All of the research that I have done on ancient civilizations leads me to think that religion has been a vehicle, not the cause. It isn’t like Christianity, or Islam were the first monotheist religions in their day, nor have they been the last.

If there is a second coming then you would be right about things getting more liberal. As I said things cycle. they always have. What is funny is as time has gone on societies have always thouhgt they were at the high point of intelectual superiority.

I would say humanities need to express itself is the real driving force behind this change. When all liberal boundries have been tested and accepted, some rebel will challenge it, and the swing will begin again.
