Yeah man. I am triple majoring in nuclear microbiology, thermodynamic physics, and advanced econometrics PLUS getting my PHD as a neurosurgeon. I also have 8 kids at home, two full time jobs - one working as a lab technician, and another as a consultant for a management firm - and an overbearing wife. I also volunteer at the local shelter 20 hours a week, AND coach a little league team. Given all of this I still have time to workout 7 days a week for 3 hours at a time and get my full 8 hours of sleep a night.
It’s all about time management man, even though it looks as if I have no time for anything else, I still ahve plenty of time to log onto T-Nation for 7 hours a day.[/quote]
Holy FUCK. Are you serious? AND you like death metal!
I was in basically the same situation as you after my first year of university (Except that I definite;y found time to work out. I just didn’t have a lot of money for food). I dropped out. I’m working for a year now and going to college next year for a two year program that gets me certified as a PT among many other things like leadership training etc. It’s very cheap. I know in Canada though, becoming a PT is just a matter of taking a certification test but this program I’m going to take seems to round it out nicely and has a high employment rate. It’s also only 2 years so I figure I can’t go wrong with it.
Look around and see what your options are but don’t let anything hold you back from doing what you want to do. I knew even toward the end of highschool that I would like to have my own gym someday but I kept putting it off, thinking that a career in the fitness industry would be tough to get into. Going to university though, and working the office job I’m working currently have helped me to realize that I just can’t do a desk job though so I’m really happy I’m making the change.
Don’t feel tied to whatever you’re doing. You still have a whole lot of time to make a good decision.
Just like to add that I’m doing Kinesiology (Conc. in Movement Science) at UIC, and then plan to somehow get my Masters in something related while applying to the fire or police academy. I have no experience with this but it does seem that having a exercise science undergrad degree would be pointless without going to graduate school.

Exercise science is a waste of time. I did that as my undergrad and really wish I had done something where the bulk of the content doesn’t just come in two classes, like Biology or Mechanical Engineering.

I think you went to a very shitty school my friend. I have no idea what you’re talking about. All the people I graduated with have very successful jobs, due in part to their degree. The History and Psy majors – not so much.

Yeah I’m serious. I forgot to add that I also play in a brutal death metal band. We are touring right now all over Europe.
