Hahahahahaaaa nice one Gums.
My dad rocked a combover, and if you got up early enough to catch him before he went to work you’d see that mass of hair hanging off his head before he aqua-netted the fucker down into place.
Awesome

Yes it is a recessive gene carried on the maternal side of the family. Like was said above if your mothers father or grandfather (her mothers side) are bald. You carry the trait. [/quote]
Well, I’ve never met my mother’s grandfather, but my grandfather (on my mother’s side) still has a full head of hair with only slight recession. About as much as I had at 19. Me and my brother are following the exact same balding pattern our dad did.
As for the recessive part - if I remember genetics correctly recessive means that you have to get that version of the gene from both parents, otherwise the dominant gene version from one parent will, well, dominate. So if it’s a recessive trait you need to get it from both parents.

You’re right about how recessive genes work, but this is to do with the sex chromosomes. Males have the karyotype XY and females XX. The Y chromosome is smaller than the X chromosome so in males there are genes on the X for which there are no counterparts on the Y, so the mother’s genotype dominates. This is one of the reasons why more males are colourblind than females - because the gene for colourblindness is carried on the region of the X with no Y counterpart. So if you inherit the colourblind gene from your mother (and are male), you will be colourblind. Conversely if you’re females (XX) your father’s X chromosome will determine whether you are colourblind, and as a recessive condition it is unlikely you will inherit the colourblind allele from both parents.
As for the maternal inheritance of baldness, I’m pretty sure this is a myth. I’ll have to do some digging around because the only place I can remember reading this is Men’s Health which isnt exactly an infallible source.

Yes, that’s pretty much how I remember it, although the details were a bit foggy. I think I remember some proper studies being done on the MPB inheritance regarding the influence from the paternal side. Time for some pubmed fun I guess.

Finasteride… It works…
Well it looks like my post got completely looked over lol.
x2 at finasteride.
Stop Masturbating. No wait! Shave your head…
I read on the finsteride…but after you stop taking it you go back to losing hair…I’m 20…the hell would I want to take some pills for the next 20 years of my life lol, especailly cause of some of the side effects albeit are small, I think an accumulation process over so many years could be detriminal to healthin some way?
Anyways I’ll think about it, I doubt I would go with the pills though. It is just weird to go from a thick head of hair and 8 months later thinning out quite a bit. Now it’s not bad or anything (the balding)…but at the top of the head at the back (hairline i guess?) you can tell it has thinned out quite a bit. There’s no combover process happening LOL. I’ve had a couple comments about it, mostly due to the fact that people knew I had thick hair.
lol oh and the shaved head and beard look isn’t my style, sorry fellas.
Finasteride gave me some nasty side effects, the two most notable of which were insane mood swings and sore, puffy nipples.
Try Nizoral 2% shampoo. It’s intended for dandruff, but the antifungal it contains also happens to be a very powerful DHT blocker. If DHT is blocked at the hair follice, it is much less likely to shed. In my case it completely stopped my inevitable balding and actually encouraged some regrowth. It’s cheap too (one bottle is about 20 dollars) and it lasts a long time. Worth a shot, I think.
Here is the answer to all your problems…

Been on it for 12 years and have had no issues. Your sex drive can take a bit of a hit I have heard but it does not effect me. I would rather take a pill daily that lose my hair. As far as side effects go, it could prove to be good for your prostate after years of use who really knows. You won’t know how it will effect you until you try. I also quit taking it for a couple, 4 months out of the year and my hair will start to thin, get back on and it grows right back in…

Yep. It was initially developed to treat enlarged prostates.
I’ll checkout that Nizoral 2% shampoo…is there any weird side effects with that as well?
hey rooster I know you said you were on it for 12 years and it was fine…but I just hate taking pills and stuff you know…My hair still looks good, I just know it’s gotten a lot thinner…I rather invest in a shampoo than some pills lol…thanks for the input though.
I feel for you. I’m 20 right now and showed no signs of thinning until about 8 months ago when all hell broke lose. I would say that my hair has substantially thinned and my hair line has receded by around a 1/2 inch in just the last year.
A guy at work asked me how I felt his baldness was hurting his chances with women. He wanted frankness so I told him what was “hurting his chances with women” was his highly processed diet, tobacco addiction, and lack of training. But he, at least, had a shaved head; much better than trying to hang onto those last strands of hope. Totally bald is hot when you LOOK like you hit the iron hard so shave off what remains and lift. I’ve noticed such men have no trouble getting women…

Nope. I use it 2-3x per week. Make sure to rub it in well and keep it in contact with your scalp for 5-10 mins.
On the other days I use Nioxin, which is an OTC shampoo for thinning hair. Works very well
tmay11 - ha your in the same boat as me man came out of nowhere!!
sirensong61 - well it’s not like I have strands left or anything lol maybe I’ll get a picture to show you…
pimpbot5000 - Thank you I am going to buy these products immediately! I don’t really care if it doesn’t grow back…I just want the process to stop :).
